METHODS: This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest design with similar groups and a control group. RESULTS: Comparison of the posttest scores on the Duke Anticoagulation Satisfaction Scale revealed that the experimental group had significantly lower mean scores on the positive subscale and the total scale compared to the con

Stress, Anxiety and Coping in Adults With Down Syndrome: An Exploratory Co-Research Study.

BACKGROUND: At least half of children and adults with Down syndrome have a major mental health concern during their life but few studies ask people with Down syndrome directly about their experience. We used a co-research model to explore anxiety, stress, and coping in adults with Down syndrome. METHODS: Our group of researchers and adults with Down syndrome conducted an online survey on mental health for adults with Down syndrome. We analysed quantitative data and thematically grouped coping mechanisms. RESULTS: Sixty adults with Down syndrome completed the survey, mean age was 30 years, an

Effects of irisin on ovariectomy-induced depression, anxiety, and bodyweight growth in female mice.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for postmenopausal syndrome (PMS) carries high risks of undesirable side effects. This study explores irisin as a potential alternative to HRT and investigates the underlying mechanisms. Ovariectomized (OVX) female mice was used as an animal model. The experimental mice were divided into sham, OVX, OVX + irisin (1, 3 μg/kg), OVX+ estradiol (0.5 mg/kg), and OVX + irisin + compound C (AMPK inhibitor) groups. Results showed that OVX induced depression, anxiety, and bodyweight growth in female mice. These OVX-induced abnormalities were reversed by irisin treatment

A qualitative study of question-posing anxiety in Chinese postgraduates in UK TESOL programs.

In English-medium postgraduate classrooms, particularly within MSc/MA TESOL programs in the UK, many Chinese students hesitate to pose questions despite possessing advanced English proficiency. This qualitative study aims to address three critical gaps in the literature: (1) the underexploration of postgraduate learners' affective experiences in immersive English-speaking contexts, (2) the neglect of routine classroom interactions such as question-posing compared to formal speaking tasks, and (3) the limited understanding of how cultural and educational traditions shape anxiety in graduate-lev

Interoceptive abnormalities in COPD patients: Their predictive role in anxiety and acute exacerbation of COPD.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, significantly impacting both physical and psychological health. Anxiety, a prevalent comorbidity in COPD, exacerbates respiratory symptoms, impairs disease management, and increases healthcare utilization. Interoceptive sensitivity, the ability to perceive and interpret internal bodily signals, plays a critical role in managing chronic conditions, yet its influence on healthcare utilization in COPD remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between interoceptive sensitivit

Functional Connectivity to the Amygdala in the Neonate Is Impacted by the Maternal Anxiety Level During Pregnancy.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Anxiety during pregnancy is common, and exposure to heightened anxiety during pregnancy may influence children's brain development and functioning. However, it is unclear if exposure to low levels of anxiety in utero would also impact the developing brain. The current prospective and longitudinal study included 40 healthy pregnant women without pregnancy complications or previous diagnosis of anxiety disorders. METHODS: Pregnant women's anxiety symptoms were measured at 12, 24, and 36 weeks of gestation. Their healthy, full-term offspring underwent a brain MRI scan wit
