BACKGROUND: Dental trauma injuries are frequent in children and adolescents and can result in a sequela of future complications. Lateral luxation injuries are diagnosed when a tooth becomes displaced in a position other than axial and is often associated with alveolar bone fracture. Although the tooth is not immediately lost, pulp canal obliteration or pulpal necrosis can occur. The objective of this systematic review was to gather existing data on lateral luxation injuries to mature teeth to evaluate their overall prognosis and reported complications.

Osteoporosis, a widespread skeletal disorder with a substantial economic load, is characterized by increased porosity of the bones resulting in vulnerability to fractures. When activated, the canonical Wnt signaling pathway results in osteoblastogenesis and bone formation. A Wnt ligand forms a complex with low-density lipoprotein receptor-related proteins 5 and 6 (Lrp5/6) and stimulates intracellular signaling cascades, leading to nuclear translocation of β-catenin and transcription of downstream molecules involved in osteoblast differentiation, maturation, and survival. Sclerostin (SOST), a g

Uremic toxins, such as indoxyl sulfate (IS) and kynurenine, accumulate in the blood in the event of kidney failure and contribute to further bone damage. To maintain the homeostasis of the skeletal system, bone remodeling is a persistent process of bone formation and bone resorption that depends on a dynamic balance of osteoblasts and osteoclasts. The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that regulates the toxic effects of uremic toxins. IS is an endogenous AhR ligand and is metabolized from tryptophan. In osteoclastogenesis, IS affects the expression of t

Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is an inherited metabolic disorder that results in poorly mineralised bones and teeth. Clinical symptoms vary widely from mild dental anomalies to fatal fetal defects. The most common dental symptoms include exfoliation of the primary incisors before the age of three with little or no root resorption, large pulp chambers, alveolar bone loss and thin dentinal walls. There is generally minimal periodontal inflammation associated with the bony destruction and tooth loss. The general dental practitioner is usually the first clinician to spot signs of the milder forms of HPP.

Osteoporosis has become a serious health problem throughout the world which is associated with an increased risk of bone fractures and mortality among the people of middle to old ages. Diabetes is also a major health problem among the people of all age ranges and the sufferers due to this abnormality increasing day by day. The aim of this review is to summarize the possible mechanisms through which diabetes may induce osteoporosis. Diabetes mellitus generally exerts its effect on different parts of the body including bone cells specially the osteoblast and osteoclast, muscles, retina of the ey

Mechanisms of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) are categorized into local and systemic effects. In the local mechanisms, direct inhibitory effect of glucocorticoid on bone formation is thought to be one of the important mechanisms of GIOP. In contrast, secondary hyperparathyroidism induced by negative balance of calcium due to inhibition of absorption and increase of excretion is an important systemic mechanism of GIOP. Other mechanisms of GIOP are also shown in this review. From clinical points of view, serum markers for evaluation of GIOP have been discussed. Osteocalcin, procollag

Vitamin D metabolism has an important role in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. Vitamin D deficiency is very common in elderly people in central Europe. This leads to secondary hyperparathyroidism and to increased bone resorption, resulting in osteoporosis. Combined with the elevated risk of falling that results from vitamin D deficiency, this increases the frequency of bone fractures. Severe vitamin D deficiency also causes impaired bone mineralization (osteomalacia). Controlled intervention trials with native vitamin D (and calcium) yielded no consistent results in terms of the prevention of

UNLABELLED: The purpose of this study is to discuss the structural changes of the surrounding tissue around the implant cavity when the influence of tooth extraction is still remaining. At 3 months after the extraction of the dog lower teeth, implant cavities were prepared. Histological examinations were performed on the specimens at 30 minutes, 2 days, 5 days and 10 days.
RESULTS: 1) At 3 months after the tooth extraction, enhanced bone remodeling looks like a typical one in the compact bone area. 2) The bones formed after the extraction, by alternate resorption and formation with time, were

The efficacy of diphosphonates in the treatment of diseases with increased osteoclastic bone resorption has been clearly demonstrated. Recent results show that these substances are also effective in the treatment of osteoporosis. Intermittent application of the first generation bisphosphonate, etidronate, up to three years is free of risk, stabilizes trabecular bone density after two years and seems to decrease the progression of deformations of the vertebral column in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis and vertebral fractures. In order to prove this benefit clearly, further studies of lon

The osteoclast activity (number of osteoclasts per surface bone section) and the osteoid abundance (percentage of trabecular bone surface covered with osteoid) were measured in iliac crest biopsies from 38 men with alcoholism. These patients had histories of decades of over-consumption of alcohol and repeated injuries, as well as medical complications. In older individuals, the bone mineral content of the forearms decreased so that the reduction in relation to age was comparable to that of women rather than men. Osteoid seams increased in thickness only in alcoholics who had previously undergo

Three cases of pseudohypoparathyroidism with roentgenographic evidence of hyperparathyroid bone disease are described. Renal resistance to exogenous parathyroid hormone (PTH), the hallmark of pseudohypoparathyroidism, was documented by markedly blunted or absent urinary phosphate and cyclic AMP responses to parathyroid extract. At the time of diagnosis all patients were hypocalcemic and hyperphosphatemic with elevated serum alkaline phosphatase levels and subperiosteal resorption noted on skeletal films. Bone biopsy in one patient revealed a histologic appearance consistent with hyperparathyro

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is an inherited disorder characterized by bone fragility and skeletal alterations. The administration of bisphosphonates (BPs) to patients with OI reduces pain, thereby improving their quality of life. The main mechanism of action of BPs is the inhibition of osteoclast action. In the oral cavity of children with OI during growth and development, physiological processes that require the function of osteoclasts occur. The aim of this investigation was to study the dental development of premolars and the root resorption of primary molars in children with O

Partial extraction therapies, such as the socket-shield technique, use the patient's tooth tissues and periodontium to preserve the alveolar ridge and limit postextraction resorption. Internal exposure through the overlying peri-implant mucosa has been reported as the most common complication, suggesting that the preparation technique requires modification. This technique report describes the prosthetic management of the socket-shield technique, emphasizing preparation of the socket-shield to the bone crest, and the creation of an S-shape prosthetic emergence profile to support maximal soft ti

Osteopetrosis is a rare disorder of bone remodeling characterized by defective resorption leading to excessive skeletal mass including optic canal. Compression of the optic nerve from the narrowed optic canal is the most common cause of vision loss in children with osteopetrosis. We report the case of a 6-month old girl with osteopetrosis who underwent bilateral optic canal decompression via endoscopic transcaruncular approach for progressive deterioration of visual function secondary to compressive optic neuropathy from narrowed optic canals. The patient showed improvement in visual function

Dengue is a mosquito transmitted flaviviral infection which can give rise to severe haemorrhage (dengue haemorrhagic fever) and with capillary leakage induces hypovolaemic shock (dengue shock syndrome). Although dengue symptoms and complications have been known for many decades, there has only been one documented case of osteonecrosis of the maxilla which was treated by excision of the necrotic bone. In this case of dengue infection, extensive maxillary osteonecrosis and minimal root resorption appeared to follow factitious injury with a toothpick but resolved with non-surgical management.

Although they are fortunately rare, implant fractures can cause significant problems for both clinicians and patients. The authors present a light and scanning electron microscopic study of four fractured implants in two patients. Both patients had parafunctional habits (bruxism), hypertrophic masticatory muscles, and wear of occlusal surfaces. The scanning electron microscopic study of the fractured surfaces of all four implants showed the presence of fatigue striations. Bending overload was probably created by a combination of parafunctional forces, bone resorption, posterior location of the

A 48 year old man with long history of end stage renal disease (ESRD) and secondary hyperparathyroidism presented with back pain and incontinence. MRI and CT showed T2 expansion with bony destruction and spinal cord compression. Other vertebral bodies showed destructive lesions as well. Microscopic examination showed a brown tumor composed of multinucleated giant cells and bone uninvolved by tumor showed "tunneling" resorption. Brown tumors are an exaggerated form of "Локально" osteitis fibrosa cystica in patients with ESRD and secondary hyperparathyroidism, but spinal cord compression is rare.

Bone remodeling is essential for maintaining skeletal integrity by preserving the balance between bone formation and resorption, with excessive osteoclast activity contributing to osteoporosis. Osteocytes act as central regulators of osteoclastogenesis through mechanically sensitive paracrine signals, yet the influence of osteoblasts and their mesenchymal precursors remains less defined. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have recently emerged as mediators of bone cell communication, although their role in osteoclast regulation is still underexplored. This study demonstrates that mesenchymal-derived

Androgen deficiency contributes to secondary osteoporosis in men, yet the effects of naringin in androgen-deficient male bone loss remain unclear. We evaluated whether naringin attenuates orchidectomy (ORX)-induced bone loss in male Sprague-Dawley rats and whether this response is accompanied by changes in bone turnover, the OPG/RANKL axis, TERT expression, and relative telomere length. Forty rats were assigned to Sham, ORX, ORX + Naringin, and ORX + Alendronate (ALN) groups. Treatments were administered by oral gavage for 8 weeks. ORX impaired L4 trabecular microarchitecture, shifted serum bo
