The Use of Social Media in Health Interventions for People Living with Cancer: A Systematic Review.

Social media offers scalable opportunities for social connection and health communication; however, its role in cancer interventions remains unclear. This systematic review examines the use of social media in cancer-related health interventions and their targeted outcomes. The review was registered with PROSPERO and conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. Seven databases were searched for English-language randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (2000-2024) evaluating cancer interventions with a social media component. Eligible studies involved adults (≥18 years) with a cancer diagnosis and r

Completion Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy after Device-assisted Enteroscopy in Management of Patients with Small Bowel Disease.

Background and study aims Diagnostic yields of small bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) and device-assisted enteroscopy (DAE) are known to be similar. SBCE is normally recommended as the initial diagnostic test, with DAE reserved for therapeutic indications. As most DAE procedures are not pan-enteric, a completion capsule may be of benefit to identify residual or overlooked disease. Our aim was to assess the clinical utility of completion SBCE performed following DAE. Patients and methods A retrospective analysis of completion capsules post double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) from a single referral c

Controlled-release gel encapsulation: an emerging technology for delivering beneficial microorganisms in sustainable plant disease management.

As climate change intensifies, the accelerated spread of plant diseases poses severe threats to global crop production, leading to substantial losses in yield, quality, and economic returns, thereby jeopardizing food security and agricultural sustainability. With increasing awareness of the environmental risks associated with chemical pesticides, eco-friendly alternatives are urgently needed. Although biological control represents a promising green strategy, its practical efficacy is often limited by poor microbial survival, low environmental stability, and short functional duration under fiel

Enhancing the Therapeutic Relationship Between Mental Health Case Managers and Individuals With Serious Mental Health Conditions: A Participatory Action Research Study in Community-Based Services.

This study examined how community mental health case managers, most of whom were mental health nurses, modified their day-to-day practice to strengthen the therapeutic relationship within community services. Using a participatory action research design across 10 centres in Catalonia, Spain, 24 case managers and 105 patients engaged in two action-reflection cycles. Data from reflective diaries and focus groups were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Through cyclical observation and collaborative reflection, participants identified key facilitators and barriers to developing the therape

The architecture of forensic knowledge: Ontology, transformation, and capture.

Forensic science has long struggled with "technical instrumentalism," a crisis where practical efficacy outpaces its intellectual foundation for producing reliable knowledge. This manuscript traces a history from this initial diagnosis toward a formal theory of warranted information. It first explores the ontological response provided by Haq et al., which redefines evidence not as isolated objects but as manifestations of structured change resulting from energy transfer, anchoring forensic inference in the robust reconstruction of events. This ontology is bridged with the concept of f-transfor

Nurse-led digital therapeutics for type 2 diabetes in routine care: a retrospective cohort study of adherence, glycemic outcomes, and care continuity.

BACKGROUND: Digital therapeutics can extend diabetes self-management beyond clinic visits, but sustained engagement, safe interpretation of patient-generated data, and integration with routine care remain challenging. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the real-world association between a nurse-led digital therapeutics pathway and clinical, behavioral, and patient-experience outcomes among adults with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: De-identified routine-care records were used to compare a structured nurse-led digital therapeutics pathway with usual care over 24 weeks. Eligible baseline records were c

A Scoping Review of Risk Factors for Thunderstorm Asthma in Pediatric Patients.

Thunderstorm weather conditions are known to trigger asthma-like symptoms in susceptible patients, causing spikes in the use of paramedical, primary care, and hospital services. While risk factors for thunderstorm asthma (TSA) in adults have been studied in both original research and systematic reviews, there has been less focus on the risk profile of pediatric patients. With epidemic TSA (ETSA) events predicted to increase in frequency and severity as climate change progresses, it is more crucial than ever to identify those children most at risk so that appropriate public health education, pa

Ethiopia's green legacy initiative enhances carbon stock and carbon dioxide sequestration across diverse landscapes.

Ethiopia's Green Legacy Initiative (GLI) is one of the world's largest landscape restoration programs, yet its contribution to carbon sequestration across diverse land uses and agroecological zones remains poorly quantified. This study assessed the effects of GLI interventions on biomass accumulation, carbon storage (CS), and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) sequestration across 21 districts representing major implementation regions of Ethiopia. A total of 8,209 plants belonging to 90 species and 42 families were measured across four land-use types and eight management practices. Aboveground b

Robustness of Randomized Trials Comparing Operative and Non-Operative Management of Acute Uncomplicated Appendicitis: A Fragility Analysis.

BackgroundThe fragility index (FI) is a statistical evaluation of the robustness of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quantifies how many patient outcomes would need to change to alter statistical significance. A FI of ≤3 is considered a fragile study. This study assessed the fragility of RCTs comparing non-operative management (NOM) and operative management (OM) of acute uncomplicated appendicitis (AUA).MethodsA systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar was conducted to identify RCTs published between January 2000 and September 2025 that reported a statistically significant dichoto

Stress Fracture Along with Transient Osteoporosis in a 72-Year-Old Female with Hip Pain: A Case Report.

PURPOSE: Transient hip osteoporosis (THO) is a rare, self-limiting condition characterized by acute hip pain and bone marrow edema. Although typically benign, THO may coexist with or predispose to femoral neck stress fractures, creating critical diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of concurrent THO and femoral neck stress fracture in an elderly patient and discuss implications for management. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A 72-year-old female presented with an eight-month history of persistent right hip pain. Initial radiographs suggested synovial chondromatosis; however, symptoms

2025 Korean Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation: Part 4. Adult advanced life support.

The 2025 Korean advanced life support guidelines were updated using a structured evidence evaluation process informed by recent randomized controlled trials and systematic reviews. The guideline development group prioritized patient-important outcomes and assessed the certainty of the evidence to formulate graded recommendations. For drug administration during adult cardiac arrest, intravenous access is the preferred initial route, with intraosseous access recommended when intravenous access cannot be rapidly established. Epinephrine remains the recommended vasopressor. Routine administration

High-sensitivity C-reactive protein as a prognostic biomarker in cardiovascular diseases: implications for atherosclerosis, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure - a review.

High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) is gaining recognition as an important prognostic biomarker in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), including atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD), with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD), and heart failure (HF). Evidence suggests that systemic inflammation, measured by hsCRP, is prevalent in individuals with ASCVD, CKD, and HF, and is linked to increased risk of cardiovascular events. This review explores the interconnectedness of ASCVD, CKD, and HF within the cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic axis, with systemic inflammation emerging as a common underlying d

Cholesteatoma-an immune disease.

Cholesteatoma is abnormal epithelial tissue in the middle ear cleft and an important cause of chronically discharging ears and hearing loss. Its proximity to important middle ear structures and the brain can lead to significant complications. Cholesteatoma presents both as congenital and acquired types and can occur both in children and adults. The mainstay of treating cholesteatoma is a destructive surgery with attendant morbidity. Despite radical surgery cholesteatomas can recur, sometimes repeatedly, causing a significant impact on quality of life. The role of inflammation in cholesteatoma

Comparative evaluation of ultrasound and computed tomography in the detection of imaging findings and complications of acute cholecystitis: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Gallstones (cholelithiasis) are common, with a significant portion of affected individuals developing acute cholecystitis, which can lead to severe complications. While ultrasound (US) is typically the first imaging method used, multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) may be better at detecting more complex scenarios. This study aimed to compare the detection of imaging features and complications of acute cholecystitis between US and MDCT in a cohort of confirmed cases, and to evaluate their complementary roles in clinical practice. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted in

Validation of MENTOR Tool to Describe Bowel Dysfunction in Inpatient Rehabilitation Setting.

BACKGROUND: People living with spinal cord injury (SCI) rate neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) as one of the biggest daily challenges. Currently, no validated clinical decision-making tool exists to guide NBD management during the acute/subacute period following SCI, a time highlighted by frequent complications and rapid clinical changes. Previously, the Monitoring Efficacy of NBD Treatment On Response (MENTOR) tool was developed to facilitate shared decision-making between the clinician and the person living with chronic SCI in bowel management. OBJECTIVES: To assess MENTOR tool validity in

Complex regional pain syndrome evolution is determined by both biological and psychosocial factors: a 1-year prospective observational study.

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a challenging condition with unpredictable clinical evolution. Identifying early prognostic factors could transform patient management and improve outcomes. This prospective study followed 113 patients with early CRPS (<6 months) over 1 year to assess clinical evolution and investigate key predictors of chronification. Participants underwent repeated clinical assessments, quantitative sensory testing, and self-reported evaluations at 4 time points over 1 year. Multivariable mixed-effect models were used to identify independent early prognostic factors.

Diet and Lifestyle Interventions in Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease: A Comprehensive Review.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progressive form, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), have become the leading causes of chronic liver disease worldwide, with increasing rates of cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and cardiovascular complications. Pathogenesis involves a complex interplay of dietary excess, sedentary lifestyle, insulin resistance, adipose tissue dysfunction, and alterations in the gut microbiome, which collectively lead to hepatocellular stress, inflammation, and fibrogenesis. Despite ongoing advances in pharmacoth
