An 80-year-old female patient was undergone sigmoidectomy with D2 lymph node dissection for type 2 sigmoid colon cancer in February 2007. Adult intussusception is rare and most often associated with cancer. We report a case of intussuscepted sigmoid colon into the rectum protruding from the anus of a 47-year-old woman. The cause of the intussusception was sigmoid colon cancer. We removed the intussuscepted part of the sigmoid colon as well as the rectum and regional lymph nodes. The patient recovered uneventfully and there has been no evidence of recurrence of the cancer.

This was a prospective study of postmenopausal women who underwent a computerized tomography (CT) examination of the abdomen and pelvis. We evaluated the location of the aortic bifurcation and transverse colon relative to the umbilicus at midline axis. Of 66 women, 24 were of normal weight, 23 were classified as overweight, and 19 as obese. The ages of the women in all groups were comparable. CONTEXT: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progresses to distant metastases in most cases. The most frequent sites for distant metastases are the bones, central nervous system, adrenal glands and liver. Dissemination to the skin, myocardium, thyroid gland and intestine may occur, but is rare.
CASE REPORT: We describe a case of squamous cell carcinoma in the lungs, with metastases in the colon and thyroid, in a 66-year-old female patient. The lesion was unresectable and chemotherapy was started. The patient evolved with intestinal subocclusion, and colonoscopy showed the presence of a polyp.

A primary clear cell adenocarcinoma of the colon is a rare oncologic entity. A 75-year old male presented to the emergency room with worsening abdominal pain and distension. Plain radiographs were suggestive of a large bowel obstruction due to volvulus. An attempt to detorse the volvulus and decompress the colon endoscopically failed, after which the patient was taken for an exploratory laparotomy. A transverse colon volvulus was found, and an extended right hemicolectomy and ileostomy was performed. We discuss the diagnosis and management of transverse colon volvulus and review the pertinent literature.
