Female Urgency, Trial of Urodynamics as Routine Evaluation (FUTURE study): a superiority randomised clinical trial to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of invasive urodynamic investigations in management of women with refractory overactive bladder symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Overactive bladder (OAB) syndrome is a symptom complex affecting 12-14% of the UK adult female population. Symptoms include urinary urgency, with or without urgency incontinence, increased daytime urinary frequency and nocturia. OAB has a negative impact on women's social, physical, and psychological wellbeing. Initial treatment includes lifestyle modifications, bladder retraining, pelvic floor exercises and pharmacological therapy. However, these measures are unsuccessful in 25-40% of women (refractory OAB). Before considering invasive treatments, such as Botulinum toxin injection

Evidence to service gap: cardiac rehabilitation and secondary prevention in rural and remote Western Australia.

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, has similar incidence in metropolitan and rural areas but poorer cardiovascular outcomes for residents living in rural and remote Australia. Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) is an evidence-based intervention that helps reduce subsequent cardiovascular events and rehospitalisation. Unfortunately CR attendance rates are as low as 10-30% with rural/remote populations under-represented. This in-depth assessment investigated the provision of CR and secondary prevention services in Western Australia (WA) with a focus on

Challenges and solutions to effective stewardship of rehabilitation services: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Strong and effective stewardship is a fundamental function of health systems. However, rehabilitation services often receive insufficient attention due to the limited priority assigned to them by governments and health systems. In many countries-particularly low- and middle-income nations-this neglect has resulted in fragmented and poorly coordinated rehabilitation services across various sectors, with inconsistent service delivery influenced by the internal policies of individual institutions. This study investigates the broader barriers to rehabilitation services, analyze

A brief but comprehensive three-item social connectedness screener for use in social risk assessment tools.

BACKGROUND: The 2014 IOM report "Capturing Social and Behavioral Domains and Measures in Electronic Health Records" described three subdomains of social relationships that affect patient health and well-being. However, most social risk screeners currently assess only one subdomain, frequency of social connections. We are proposing a three-item Brief Social Connectedness (SC) screener that additionally assesses risks in social/emotional support and loneliness/social isolation subdomains. METHODS: For this cross-sectional study, we used data from a 2021 Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KP

Creatine supplementation and resistance training to preserve muscle mass and attenuate cancer progression (CREATINE-52): a protocol for a double-blind randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Muscle mass is important for metastatic prostate cancer survival and quality of life (QoL). The backbone of treatment for men with metastatic castration sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) is androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) with an androgen signaling inhibitor. ADT is an effective cancer treatment, but it facilitates significant declines in muscle mass and adverse health outcomes important to mCSPC survivors, such as fatigue, and reductions in physical function, independence, insulin sensitivity, and QoL. In non-metastatic CSPC survivors, resistance training (RT) preserves muscle

Comparing National Institutes of Health funding for cancer survivorship: a spotlight on breast and gynecologic cancer.

BACKGROUND: Cancer survivorship in the United States is rapidly rising, with a projected 50% increase by 2050, driven by improvements in treatment and increased incidence of cancers such as endometrial cancer. Along with this growth, long-term side effects create significant burdens, yet survivorship research, particularly for female-organ cancers, remains limited and imbalanced - with breast cancer studies far outnumber those for gynecologic cancers. To understand these disparities, funding patterns for survivorship research between disease sites, while accounting for differences in disease p
