Role of neutropenic diet in prevention of infection and graft-versus-host disease in haematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients: systematic review and meta-analysis protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is associated with substantial early infectious risk, neutropenia, immunosuppression, and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Many centres continue to use neutropenic, low-microbial, low-bacterial, or protective diets to reduce dietary exposure to potential pathogens, despite variation in diet definitions and concerns regarding nutritional intake, patient experience, cost, and microbiota recovery. This protocol describes a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating the benefits and harms of neutropenic diets compared with less res

Combine Short-Segment Fixation and Leverage Reduction Technique to Correct Kyphotic Angle in Kümmell's Disease.

OBJECTIVE: Kümmell disease is a prevalent spinal condition characterized by vertebral fractures and subsequent spinal nerve injury, significantly impacting patients' quality of life and imposing a considerable economic burden on society. Current treatment modalities, including percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) and kyphoplasty (PKP), often fail to alleviate symptoms or restore vertebral height in advanced stages of the disease, highlighting the urgent need for improved surgical interventions. This study aims to evaluate the surgical outcomes of short-segment fixation combined with leverage redu

Mechanisms and Advances in Plant Lipid Regulatory Responses Under Biotic and Abiotic Stress.

Biotic stresses (pest feeding, pathogenic fungal/bacterial/viral infection) and diverse abiotic stresses (extreme temperature, drought, waterlogging, saline-alkali soil, heavy metal pollution, nutrient deficiency, UV-B, ozone) severely restrict crop growth and global agricultural yield. Lipids act as core membrane structural constituents and vital secondary signaling messengers, executing multi-layered adaptive balancing functions during cell-type interactive stress acclimation, rather than uniform whole-plant lipid responses. They sustain membrane structural integrity across distinct cell pop

Influence of sex and gender on depression-related healthcare utilisation following traumatic brain injury sustained during childhood and adolescence: protocol for a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Depression is a prevalent mental health condition often occurring after traumatic brain injury (TBI) in both children and adults. Sex, gender and other social determinants of health (SDoH) (e.g., race/ethnicity or socio-economic status) play an important role in depression-related and TBI-related healthcare utilisation (e.g., diagnosis, treatment and management of the conditions). Despite this, no reviews have examined how sex and gender, along with other SDoH, influence depression-related healthcare utilisation among individuals who sustained a TBI ≤19 years of age. The review's

Factors Associated with Self-Harm Attempts Among Female Adolescents with Self-Reported Reclusive Tendencies in Republic of Korea.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Self-harm attempts among adolescents represent a major public health concern, often associated with depression, low self-esteem, and social withdrawal. While excessive smartphone use is generally linked to internalizing distress, digital engagement might play complex roles among socially isolated youth. This study examined factors associated with self-harm attempts among female adolescents with self-reported reclusive tendencies in South Korea, with a specific focus on evaluating the exploratory role of smartphone overdependence. METHODS: Secondary data analysis was con

Prevalence of antimalarial drug resistance markers and factors associated with Plasmodium falciparum infection in asymptomatic children prior to rectal artesunate implementation in Kapolowe Health District, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

BACKGROUND: In remote areas where access to parenteral treatment for severe malaria or referral is limited, rectal artesunate (RAS) followed by a full course of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) provided by community health workers would be a pragmatic solution. However, concerns remain that its expanded use may select for artemisinin-resistant Plasmodium falciparum strains. This baseline study assessed the presence of molecular markers of resistance to artemisinin and partner drugs and investigated factors associated with Plasmodium falciparum infection prior to RAS implementation.

Eimeria in chickens: Recent advances in host-pathogen interactions, molecular insights, and control strategies.

Avian coccidiosis, caused by Eimeria spp., remains a major parasitic disease of poultry and imposes significant economic burdens on the global poultry industry. This review systematically synthesizes key advances over the past decade concerning host-Eimeria interactions, molecular regulatory mechanisms, and novel control strategies, while contextualizing these findings with earlier seminal discoveries. In recent years, novel diagnostic tools based on molecular detection and antigen capture have emerged, offering improved sensitivity and interspecies specificity over conventional methods. These

Genomic characterisation of Enterococcus cecorum isolated from broiler chickens in the United Kingdom.

Enterococcus cecorum is an important poultry pathogen associated with lameness and increased mortality, leading to major welfare and economic impacts. Treatment is often challenging because disease is frequently detected late and the organism can localise in bone and joints, limiting antimicrobial efficacy. Presence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes may further complicate treatment. Despite increasing global genomic research, only one recent study has investigated the phylogeny of E. cecorum from conventional UK broiler farms, using limited samples and a restricted time frame. In this st

NOS1 mediates LPS-induced oxidative stress and impaired endometrial receptivity in sheep during early pregnancy.

In sheep production, bacterial infections often cause embryo implantation failure and early pregnancy loss, resulting in substantial economic losses. These detrimental effects are closely associated with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced disruption of uterine function, mediated via inflammation and oxidative stress. Although nitric oxide synthase 1 (NOS1) has been established to play a regulatory role in the induction of oxidative stress, its precise role during the peri‑implantation period in sheep remains unclear. In this study, pregnant ewes during three critical periods of embryo
