INTRODUCTION: Fragility fractures are a significant public health challenge often occurring as a result of frailty. Identifying patients who have increased risk of adverse outcomes can aid treating teams in managing these patients appropriately. We hypothesise that the appearance of the patient's head overlapping the lung fields (named Chin on Chest in Neck of Femur sign (COCNOF)) in the admission chest radiograph was a predictor of increased mortality at 3, 6 and 12 months.

The radius of curvature of femoral intramedullary nails does not match the average radius of curvature of the human femur. Anterior cortical breach of the distal femur during nail placement has been reported in certain fracture patterns, in femora with a smaller radius of curvature, and at the starting point of the nail. The authors describe a novel technique used to prevent anterior cortical disruption of the femur using multiple percutaneously placed Steinmann pins. This technique ensures safe passage of medullary reamers and the femoral nail.

Intraoperative periprosthetic fractures are becoming more common given the increased prevalence of revision total hip arthroplasty and increased use of cementless fixation. Osteopetrosis is a rare hereditary disease that was first described by a German Albert Schonberg in 1904. At least five types of osteopetrosis have been described. Among them osteopetrosis congenita (autosomal recessive) and osteopetrosis tarda (autosomal dominant) are most common.
