Coat color affects the resilience against heat stress impacts on testicular hemodynamics, reproductive hormones, and semen quality in Baladi goats.

Drastic climatic changes threaten animal productivity and prolificacy, whose adaptability is governed by its pheno- and genotypic traits. This study was aimed at investigating the effect of coat color on the adaptability of goat bucks under heat stress conditions from the perspectives of testicular blood flow (TBF) and biometry, reproductive hormones, and semen quality. Twenty bucks (Capra hircus) bearing different coat colors were selected from a large flock and divided into four equal groups (n = 5 each) as follows: black coat (BC; 100% black), brown coat (BrC; 100% dark brown), white coat (

Ionic Liquids as Working Fluids for Heat Storage Applications: Decomposition Behavior of N-Butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate.

Ionic liquids (ILs) represent promising working fluids to be used in thermal energy storage (TES) technologies thanks to their peculiar properties, such as low volatility, high chemical stability, and high heat capacity. Here, we studied the thermal stability of the IL N-butyl-N-methylpyrrolidinium tris(pentafluoroethyl)trifluorophosphate ([BmPyrr]FAP), a potential working fluid for TES applications. The IL was heated at 200 °C for up to 168 h either in the absence or in contact with steel, copper, and brass plates to simulate the conditions used in TES plants. High-resolution magic angle spin

Heat and Moisture Exchanger Occlusion Leading to Sudden Increased Airway Pressure: A Case Report Using ChatGPT as a Personal Writing Assistant.

Heat and moisture exchangers (HMEs) are commonly used during general anesthesia to provide appropriate humidification and warming of inspired gases. While they play a critical role in mechanical ventilation, they can also lead to acute difficult ventilation if not correctly monitored and drained. We present a case of a 56-year-old female patient who underwent lower extremity vascular bypass surgery under general anesthesia and experienced sudden increased airway pressures due to occlusion of the HME caused by excessive moisture accumulation. Proper monitoring and management of the airway circu

Mitigation of heat stress in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) via regulation of physiological attributes using sodium nitroprusside and gibberellic acid.

Heat stress poses a threat to plants in arid and semiarid regions, leading to soil salinization and plant mortality. Researchers are exploring remedies to alleviate these effects, including using gibberellic acid (GA3) to regulate plant enzymes and antioxidants. Additionally, sodium nitroprusside (SNP) is gaining attention, but its combined effect with GA3 requires further research. To address this gap, we investigated the effects of GA3 and SNP on plants under heat stress conditions. For that, wheat plants were cultivated under 40 °C for 6 h per day (15 days). Sodium nitroprusside (donor of N

Assessment of heat production and methane emission using infrared thermography in lactating Holstein and Gyrolando-F1 (½ Holstein ½ Gyr) crossbreed cows.

Infrared thermography (IRT) is a non-invasive and efficient tool to detect changes in the animal's body surface temperature, which is directly associated with the animal's energy loss. Methane emission represents a significant energy loss, particularly in ruminants, as well as heat production. Therefore, the aim of this study was to correlate skin temperature measured using IRT with heat production (HP) and methane emission in lactating Holstein and crossbred ½ Holstein x ½ Gyr (Gyrolando-F1) cows. Six Gyrolando-F1 and four Holstein cows, all primiparous, at mid lactation were used to evaluate

Sonication and heat-mediated synthesis, characterization and larvicidal activity of sericin-based silver nanoparticles against dengue vector (Aedes aegypti).

Fabrication, characterization and evaluation of the larvicidal potential of novel silk protein (sericin)-based silver nanoparticles (Se-AgNPs) were the prime motives of the designed study. Furthermore, investigation of the sericin as natural reducing or stabilizing agent was another objective behind this study. Se-AgNPs were synthesized using sonication and heat. Fabricated Se-AgNPs were characterized using particle size analyzer, UV spectrophotometry, FTIR and SEM which confirmed the fabrication of the Se-AgNPs. Size of sonication-mediated Se-AgNPs was smaller (7.49 nm) than heat-assisted Se-

Incorporation of Escherichia coli heat-labile enterotoxin B subunit into rabies virus particles enhances its immunogenicity in mice and dogs.

Although inactivated vaccines against rabies have the advantage of high safety, effective protection against rabies virus (RABV) infection often requires multiple, high-dose immunization. Incorporating a molecular adjuvant into the viral particles has been found to be a useful strategy to promote the immune effectiveness of inactivated vaccines. In this study, we constructed a recombinant virus, rCVS11-LTB, which chimerically expresses a molecular adjuvant heat-labile enterotoxin B subunit (LTB) protein on the surface of the RABV particles. Immunogenicity in vivo was found to be promoted by rC

Hepatic transcriptome profiling according to growth rate reveals acclimation in metabolic regulatory mechanisms to cyclic heat stress in broiler chickens.

Climate change has numerous effects on poultry that result in welfare concerns and economic losses in agricultural industries. However, the mechanisms underlying the acclimation to heat stress in poultry have not been comprehensively defined. Therefore, identifying associated patterns of gene regulation and understanding the molecular mechanisms of acclimation to a warmer environment will provide insights into the acclimation system of broiler chickens. We profiled differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with differences in growth performance under heat stress conditions in the liver

Are Thermoregulatory Sweating and Active Vasodilation in Skin Controlled by Separate Nerves During Passive Heat Stress in Persons With Spinal Cord Injury?

BACKGROUND: Sudomotor responses (SR) and active vasodilation (AVD) are the primary means of heat dissipation during passive heat stress (PHS). It is unknown if they are controlled by a single or separate set of nerves. Older qualitative studies suggest that persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) have discordant areas of sweating and vasodilation. OBJECTIVES: To test the hypothesis that neural control of SR and AVD is through separate nerves by measuring SR and vasodilation in persons with SCI to determine if these areas are concordant or discordant. METHODS: Nine persons with tetraplegia, 13

Sodium alginate and Chitosan aided design of form-stable Polyrotaxane based phase change materials with ultra-high latent heat.

We prepared a series of highly porous Polyrotaxane/sodium alginate, and Polyrotaxane/Chitosan foam alloys according to a sustainable pathway by using water as the only solvent. The foam alloys were further used as supporter materials for poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) encapsulation, to fabricate shape-stable bio-based phase change materials (PCMs). The pore morphology and the internal interface between PEG and foam alloys were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Due to the good compatibility between foam alloys and PEG, the PCM performed perfect anti-leakage properties. The intr

Enhancing methane production from waste activated sludge with heat-assisted potassium ferrate (PF) pretreatment: Reaction kinetics and mechanisms.

This work proposed a novel strategy via heat-assisted potassium ferrate (PF) pretreatment to enhance methane production from waste activated sludge (WAS) during anaerobic digestion. In this research, five dosages of PF (i.e., 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 g/g VSS) at two temperatures (i.e., 25 °C and 55 °C) were explored. Biochemical methane potential experiments illustrated that heat-assisted PF pretreatment improved cumulative methane production with the maximum yield up to 163.93 mL CH4/g VSS, 149.0 %, 119.6 % and 121.0 % of that in the control, individual 0.5 g PF/g VSS and individual heat (i.
