We describe a novel method that allows bioptome-assisted delivery of multiple Gianturco coils simultaneously for occlusion of the large patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Two or more coils were intertwined at one end and held by a bioptome (5.2 Fr) and pulled into a short introducer. The coils were then deployed in the PDA via a long sheath (7-11 Fr) previously placed across the duct via the femoral vein. BACKGROUND: Few immunohematological studies have been done in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS).
METHODS: Twenty-nine MDS patients were retrospectively evaluated with a direct antiglobulin test (DAT), antibody screening, serum electrophoresis and immunoelectrophoresis. We examined hematological complications in 415 patients having valve replacement with the St. Jude mechanical prosthesis (212, aortic valve replacement [AVR]; 159, mitral valve replacement [MVR]; and 44, AVR + MVR). Records of 100 consecutive patients who had received double valve replacement were reviewed (41 men, 59 women, mean age, 60.86 +/- 13.0 years). The early death rate was 6% (six patients).
