INTRODUCTION: Non-invasive 3D imaging that enables clear visualization of placental margins is of interest in the accurate diagnosis of placental pathologies. This study investigated if contrast-enhanced MRI performed using a liposomal gadolinium blood-pool contrast agent (liposomal-Gd) enables clear visualization of the placental margins and the placental-myometrial interface (retroplacental space). Non-contrast MRI and contrast-enhanced MRI using a clinically approved conventional contrast agent were used as comparators.

OBJECTIVES: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely utilized, non-invasive imaging modality for evaluating aortic diseases. In this study, we sought to validate a novel, ECG-gated, non-contrast enhanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance sequence (T2-Prepared GRE and Dixon Water-Fat Separation, T2p GD) in patients with aortic disease - both with and without prior aortic surgery - and to compare its diagnostic performance with that of standard contrast-enhanced MR angiography (CE-MRA).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 55 patients undergoing cardiovascular MRI were recruited, including 26

BACKGROUND: To achieve a more specific method to estimate the real size of breast cancer, we have developed a method to fuse magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and scintimammography (SM) images. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of this method and to evaluate its accuracy to measure the size of breast cancer compared with MRI alone, mammography, and clinical examination, employing pathologic size as the gold standard.
METHODS: Twenty consecutive breast cancer women at stages IIA-IIIA, scheduled for mastectomies, underwent SM with (99m)Tc-sestamibi and MRI with gadolinium 2-10

Bolus tracking magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful technique for measuring perfusion, and is playing an increasing role in the investigation of acute stroke. However, limitations have been reported when assessing patients with steno-occlusive disease. The presence of a steno-occlusive disease in the artery may cause bolus dispersion, which has been shown to introduce significant errors in cerebral blood flow (CBF) quantification. Bolus dispersion is commonly described by a vascular transport function, but the function that properly characterizes the dispersion is unknown. A novel me

This study presents a cutting-edge imaging technique for special unmanned vehicles (UAVs) designed to enhance tunnel inspection capabilities. This technique integrates ghost imaging inspired by the human visual system with lateral inhibition and variable resolution to improve environmental perception in challenging conditions, such as poor lighting and dust. By emulating the high-resolution foveal vision of the human eye, this method significantly enhances the efficiency and quality of image reconstruction for fine targets within the region of interest (ROI). This method utilizes non-uniform s

PURPOSE: Invasive breast carcinomas and fibroadenomas are often difficult to differentiate in dynamic contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MR imaging of the breast, because both tumors can enhance strongly after contrast injection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the addition of T2*-weighted first pass perfusion imaging can increase the differentiation of malignant from benign lesions.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Nine patients with invasive carcinomas and 10 patients with contrast enhancing fibroadenomas were examined by a dynamic contrast-enhanced T1-weighted 3D sequence immediately fol

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) accounts for 20%-25% of breast cancers detected at screening mammography. The lesions are diverse and commonly are classified on the basis of their mammographic features and histologic characteristics such as nuclear grade and presence or absence of necrosis. The most common mammographic finding in DCIS is microcalcifications, but a low-grade lesion without necrosis is less likely to manifest with calcifications than either an intermediate- or a high-grade lesion. Other mammographic findings might include a mass or architectural distortion. Magnetic resonance (M

Xenon-enhanced dual-energy computed tomography (xenon-enhanced CT) can provide lung ventilation maps that may be useful for assessing structural and functional abnormalities of the lung. Xenon-enhanced CT has been performed using a multiple-breath-hold technique during xenon washout. We recently developed xenon-enhanced CT using a single-breath-hold technique to assess ventilation. We sought to evaluate whether xenon-enhanced CT using a single-breath-hold technique correlates with pulmonary function testing (PFT) results.Twenty-six patients, including 11 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (

Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) often mimics liver abscess in clinical presentation and imaging features, leading to misdiagnosis. We report a case of a 56-year-old male initially diagnosed with liver abscess. Multimodal imaging, including contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), revealed rim-enhancing lesions, making definitive differentiation challenging. Ultrasound-guided biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of ICC. This case, combined with a literature review, systematically explores the key imaging features fo

Krabbe's disease is an autosomal recessive leukodystrophy with well-documented intracranial findings on both CT scans and MR images. We herein present what is thought to be the second case of Krabbe's disease with spinal involvement shown on MR images as abnormal contrast enhancement of the lumbosacral nerve roots. The typical intracranial findings of T2 hyperintensity without contrast enhancement were present within the periventricular white matter, but there was no area of abnormal signal intensity or enhancement within the substance of the spinal cord. We briefly review the pathophysiology,

OBJECTIVE: In this article we will illustrate the role of subtraction imaging for abdominal MRI applications.
CONCLUSION: Subtraction imaging has multiple applications for imaging the mediastinum, abdomen, and pelvis. Removing any preexisting signal of T1 unenhanced images causes contrast enhancement within a mass to become more conspicuous on subtracted sequences. This is helpful when evaluating a lesion with high signal on unenhanced T1-weighted sequences, where visual detection of enhancement can be difficult on conventional MRI.

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) combines optical contrast with acoustic detection to enable high-resolution, molecular imaging at clinically relevant depths. This review outlines the current status and future potential of contrast-enhanced PAI in human applications. We begin by discussing regulatory considerations surrounding both imaging devices and exogenous contrast agents, highlighting safety concerns, lack of standardized validation protocols, and barriers to the approval of novel agents. To accelerate clinical adoption, many studies have focused on repurposing FDA-approved agents such as ind
