What influences the implementation of kangaroo mother care? An umbrella review.

BACKGROUND: Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is an evidence-based intervention that reduces morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. However, it has not yet been fully integrated into health systems around the world. The aim of this study is to provide a cogent summary of the evidence base of the key barriers and facilitators to implementing KMC. METHODS: An umbrella review of existing reviews on KMC was adopted to identify systematic and scoping reviews that analysed data from primary studies. Electronic English databases, including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane Library, and three Chinese

As a chronic disease, cervical spondylosis is prone to recurrent attacks as we age if we do not pay attention to protection, which can easily lead to symptoms such as osteophytes and herniated discs. In the early stage of cervical spondylosis, it is possible to alleviate the disease and prevent its aggravation by improving poor cervical posture and increasing cervical activities. This article analyzes the current situation and medical prospect of smart wearable devices with the prevention and treatment of cervical spondylosis in white-collar people as the starting point and smart wearable devi

[A CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF THE ORIGINS OF PUBLIC HEALTH MEDICINE FROM 1912 TO 1919 WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE WORK OF ANDRIJA ŠTAMPAR].

The paper examines the forerunner of the development of public health medicine since 1912, as well as the actions of Andrija Štampar as a municipal physician in the Nova Gradiška Posavina region from 1913 to 1918. The predecessors of public health medicine are considered in the context of the emergence of societies for the protection of public health in Belgrade and Zagreb, as well as the connection between Andrija Štampar and these societies. Analysing the archival material of the Croatian State Archive, laws, journals, and newspapers, the paper attempts to link the theoretical phase of Andri

Use of premedication with intravenous immune globulin in Kawasaki disease: A retrospective review.

BACKGROUND: Kawasaki disease (KD) is a significant febrile illness in children and is the leading cause of acquired pediatric heart disease in developed countries. Its recommended treatment is high-dose intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) plus aspirin. However, IVIG-related adverse events are seen frequently in this population. Premedication is commonly used to reduce this risk, but evidence supporting this practice is conflicting. Ultimately, practices vary among institutions and no standard guidelines regarding IVIG premedication currently exist. METHODS: Electronic medical records for pedia

Addressing Electroconvulsive Therapy Knowledge Gaps and Stigmatized Views Among Nursing Students Through a Psychiatrist-APRN Didactic Partnership.

BACKGROUND: Knowledge gaps and stigmatized perceptions regarding electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) among patients and health providers contribute to the underutilization of an important therapeutic modality. The proactive education of future advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) provides an opportunity to optimize the use of this evidence-based clinical practice. AIMS: As part of a general course in psychiatry during the first year of nursing school, we dedicated 1 hour to treatment-refractory depression, including ECT, and a second hour to a summary discussion of mood disorders. The Equatoguinean Malaria Vaccine Initiative: From the Launching of a Clinical Research Platform to Malaria Elimination Planning in Central West Africa.

Fifteen years of investment in malaria control on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea (EG), dramatically reduced malaria-associated morbidity and mortality, but the impact has plateaued. To progress toward elimination, EG is investing in the development of a malaria vaccine. We assessed the unique public-private partnership that has had such a significant impact on malaria on Bioko Island and now added a major effort on malaria vaccine development. As part of a $79M commitment, the EG government (75%) and three American energy companies (25%) have invested since 2012 greater than $55M in the Equat

Variation in opioid analgesia administration and discharge prescribing for emergency department patients with suspected urolithiasis.

OBJECTIVE: Previous research has suggested caution about opioid analgesic usage in the emergency department (ED) setting and raised concerns about variations in prescription opioid analgesic usage, both across institutions and for whom they are prescribed. We examined opioid analgesic usage in ED patients with suspected urolithiasis across fifteen participating hospitals. METHODS: This is a secondary analysis of a clinical trial including adult ED patients with suspected urolithiasis. In multilevel models accounting for clustering by hospital, we assessed demographic, clinical, state-level, a

Unnecessary ultrasounds in children with undescended testes: An interrogation of the impact of the Choosing Wisely campaigns and clinical practice guidelines.

OBJECTIVES: Over the past decade, clinical practice guidelines and educational campaigns have counselled against the use of routine ultrasound (US) in the diagnosis of undescended testes (UDT). We aimed to establish whether or not there has been change in the proportion of children with UDT undergoing pre-referral US prior to referral to our centre over this period. We also sought to determine whether type of referring specialist, UDT diagnosis, and patient distance from the hospital had impacted the rate of pre-referral US. METHODS: A select sample of hospital charts of children undergoing o
