What is the Prognostic Significance of Positive Lymph Nodes at the Circumferential Resection Margin in Rectal Cancer: A Systematic Review.

INTRODUCTION: Circumferential resection margin (CRM) positivity is an established predictor of local recurrence and survival in rectal cancer. The prognostic impact of CRM positivity specifically attributable to tumour within lymph nodes at the CRM (node-positive CRM) is unclear. We performed a systematic review to determine whether CRM positivity caused by lymph node metastases confers similar oncological risk to CRM positivity from direct tumour extension. METHODS: A systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL and Cochrane Library was conducted in March 2026 for studies reporting outcomes

Can Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Reduce the False-Negative Rate of Metastatic Axillary Lymph Nodes After Neoadjuvant Therapy in Breast Cancer?

BACKGROUND: Accurate assessment of axillary lymph node (ALN) status after neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) remains essential for surgical planning in patients with initially node-positive breast cancer. This study evaluated the potential value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in conjunction with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for post-NAT axillary assessment and explored clinicopathologic factors associated with lymph node (LN) status. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 179 patients with cytologically confirmed node-positive breast cancer underwent CEUS after NAT, followed by surgical pa

A Rare Presentation of Extramedullary Plasmacytoma Localized to the Base of the Tongue With Abnormal Lymph Nodes: A Case Report.

Solitary plasmacytoma is a localized form of plasma cell neoplasm and is important to differentiate from multiple myeloma (MM) using clinical assessment, imaging, and bone marrow evaluation. Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) develops from soft tissue and is a rare occurrence, although a large proportion of cases are in the head and neck. We describe a 59-year-old man who presented with a progressively enlarging left-sided neck mass. Imaging revealed a lesion in the left tongue base and supraclavicular and cervical lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of the left tongue base lesion revealed mature plasma ce

Clonal sharing and plasticity of follicular CD4 + T cells across lymph nodes and tumors in non-small cell lung cancer.

Tumor-invaded lymph nodes (LNs) are critical but poorly studied hubs of anti-tumor immunity. Using single-cell transcriptome, clonotype, and chromatin profiling, we analyze CD4 + T cells from blood, LNs, and tumors of NSCLC patients. LNs and tumors are enriched in follicular regulatory T cells (Treg-Tfr), follicular-like conventional T cells (Tconv-Tfh and Tconv-CXCL13), and tissue-resident Tregs (Treg-Trm). These populations are predicted to share a transcriptional program of activation and tissue adaptation, driven by BATF. Additionally, these subsets show extensive LN-tumor clonal sharing,

Patterns of expression and prognostic implication of glycoprotein nonmetastatic protein B (GPNMB) expression in sentinel lymph nodes of melanoma patients.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is a critical procedure in the management of melanoma, offering prognostic information and guiding adjuvant therapy. Glycoprotein nonmetastatic melanoma protein B (GPNMB), a melanogenesis marker, has been implicated in melanoma progression. This study investigates the expression patterns of GPNMB in SLN metastases and their association with oncological outcomes. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 27 melanoma patients with positive SLNB at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center between 2010 and 2020. Immunohistochemistry was used to assess GPNMB expression in S

Real Index of Refraction of Normal and Cancerous Axillary Lymph Nodes in Breast Cancer Patients: Results from an Experimental Study.

Background: Breast malignancy is the most common cancer type and the second leading cause of cancer-related death for women all ages. Axillary surgery provides prognostic and predictive information, but carries significant morbidity. Imaging techniques are a promising field, providing the characterization of biological tissues using the interaction between the light and a medium, and may offer an accurate cancerous diagnosis without the need for formal histopathological examination. Methods: In this study, using a prism couple refractometer, we sought to determine tissues' reflection profiles

Breast Imaging: Correlation Between Axillary Lymph Nodes Apparent Diffusion Coefficient and Pathological Lymphovascular Invasion in Patients With Invasive Breast Cancer.

OBJECTIVE: Together with local invasion, one of the important characteristics of cancer is its capacity to spread, resulting in metastases. Before cancer cells metastasize to a secondary site, they must first enter and spread through the blood and lymph vasculature, this is known as lymphovascular invasion (LVI). This LVI and, to a much lesser extent, perineural and neural invasion are one of the biologic prerequisites for systemic spread and metastases. To evaluate the correlation between pre-operative apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the ipsilateral enlarged axillary lymph nodes (LNs)

Evaluation of LNR and modified N stage systems for prognostic stratification of metastatic lymph nodes in stage III colorectal Cancer.

Lymph node ratio (LNR) and log odds of positive lymph nodes (LOODS) are considered to be potentially more rigorous metastatic lymph node stratification patterns than AJCC N stage due to the integration of the number of examined lymph nodes. Based on the data of colorectal cancer obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Result (SEER) database, comparison of the stratification performance between different prognostic models was validated by statistical methods, includingchi-square test, Cox regression analysis, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, and Time-dependent Area Under Curve. Application of sentinel lymph nodes biopsy tracers for breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in China: A multicenter, real-world study.

The real-world application of tracers for axillary sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for breast cancer (BC) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in China was unknown. We analyzed the use of individual tracers or combinations and number of SLNs in patients with BC who underwent SLNB with or without axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) after NAC in 20 hospitals in ten years. A total of 1251 BC patients underwent SLNB or SLNB + ALND after NAC, including 853 (68.2%, 853/1251) with a single tracer, predominantly Methylene blue (MB) (60.1%, 752/1251); and 398 (31.8%, 398/1251) with dual tracers, ma

A predictive nomogram for assessing the likelihood of retrieving 12 lymph nodes after rectal cancer surgery: a single-center study.

OBJECTIVE: The retrieval of 12 lymph nodes (LNs) remains a crucial criterion for accurate staging and prognosis evaluation in rectal cancer (RC). However, some patients fail to meet this threshold after surgery. This study developed a nomogram model based on clinical variables to predict the probability of retrieving 12 LNs postoperatively. METHODS: Patients who underwent radical RC surgery at Shanxi Cancer Hospital between 2015 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Continuous variables were converted into categorical variables. Chi-square tests were used to identify key factors influencing

Self-Calibrated Identification of Metastatic Lymph Nodes Using Full-NIR-II Tunable Ag2Se Quantum Dots Engineered by Short-Chain Phosphines.

Ratiometric fluorescence imaging in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) region holds great promise for the accurate identification of metastatic lymph nodes (MLNs), but faces challenges in biocompatible probe design with simplified composition and broad spectral tunability. Here, a minimalist, self-calibrating ratiometric probe based on homologous Ag2Se quantum dots (QDs) is developed. Through rational redesign of tributylphosphine-mediated coordination kinetics, continuous size-dependent emission tuning across 935-1710 nm, with the synthetic mechanism and structure-property relationships system

Prognostic value of combined pathological response in primary tumor and lymph nodes after neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy for locally advanced gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND: Inconsistent pathological responses between primary tumors and lymph nodes are frequently observed in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) undergoing neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy. However, limited studies have evaluated the prognostic significance of such discrepancies. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of combined pathological responses in the primary tumor and lymph nodes among patients with LAGC treated with neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted on 109 patients with LAGC who underwent radical surgery af

Artificial intelligence-assisted noninvasive preoperative prediction of lymph nodes metastasis in cervical cancer through a clinical-imaging feature combined strategy.

BACKGROUND: Lymph node metastasis (LNM) of patients with cervical cancer (CC) is correlated with noticeably reduced five-year survival rate. but the role of conventional detection is limited for preoperative diagnosis of LNM. Therefore, we intended to develop a predictive model for LNM by integrating medical images, clinical data along with artificial intelligence-assisted method. METHODS: CC patients who underwent radical hysterectomy combined with pelvic lymphadenectomy between January 2013 and October 2024 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. For computed tomography (CT) and ultras

Prognostic Significance, Radiological, and Metabolic Characteristics of Metastatic Lymph Nodes in Resectable Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Following Neoadjuvant Chemoimmunotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Metastatic lymph nodes (mLNs) exhibit different responses to neoadjuvant immunotherapy compared to the primary tumor (PT) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Evaluating mLNs' response is crucial for predicting treatment efficacy and prognosis; however, such assessments are currently insufficient. METHODS: We enrolled 101 NSCLC patients with mLNs who underwent neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy followed by surgery. Survival outcomes and radiological and metabolic changes were analyzed across different lymph node pathological response groups, and a least absolute shrinkage and select
