Assessing the Accuracy and Reproducibility of PARIETAL: A Deep Learning Brain Extraction Algorithm.

BACKGROUND: Manual brain extraction from magnetic resonance (MR) images is time-consuming and prone to intra- and inter-rater variability. Several automated approaches have been developed to alleviate these constraints, including deep learning pipelines. However, these methods tend to reduce their performance in unseen magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner vendors and different imaging protocols. PURPOSE: To present and evaluate for clinical use PARIETAL, a pre-trained deep learning brain extraction method. We compare its reproducibility in a scan/rescan analysis and its robustness among s

Monoanionic {Mn(NO)}5 and dianionic {Mn(NO)}6 thiolatonitrosylmanganese complexes: [(NO)Mn(L)2]- and [(NO)Mn(L)2]2- (LH2 = 1,2-benzenedithiol and toluene-3,4-dithiol).

The reaction of MnBr(2) and [PPN](2)[S,S-C(6)H(3)-R] (1:2 molar ratio) in THF yielded [(THF)Mn(S,S-C(6)H(3)-R)(2)](-) [R = H (1a), Me (1b); THF = tetrahydrofuran]. Formation of the dimeric [Mn(S,S-C(6)H(3)-R)(2)](2)(2-) [R = H (2a), Me (2b)] was presumed to compensate for the electron-deficient Mn(III) core via two thiolate bridges upon dissolution of complexes 1a and 1b in CH(2)Cl(2). Complex 2a displays antiferromagnetic coupling interaction between two Mn(III) centers (J = -52 cm(-1)), with the effective magnetic moment (mu(eff)) increasing from 0.85 mu(B) at 2.0 K to 4.86 mu(B) at 300 K. The Orbitofrontal Cortex Represents the Allocentric Spatial States of Dynamic Agents Within a Static Environmental Framework.

Scene construction involves automatic synthesis of fragmented visual inputs into coherent mental models. Although previous studies have focused on static landscapes, real-world scenes require the integration of dynamic agents with stable environmental anchors. How the brain represents the spatial configuration of such dynamic agents relative to a static environment remains unclear. We investigated this question using an automatic space-encoding task in a three-dimensional virtual-reality environment and functional magnetic resonance imaging representational similarity analysis. The results rev

[Mg3@C20]+: an s-orbital electron spin system protected in a carbon ring framework.

Increasing the proportion of s-orbital character and employing rigid ligands with zero nuclear spin can effectively suppress spin-orbit coupling, electron spin-nuclear spin hyperfine coupling, and spin-lattice vibrational coupling. This is crucial for designing electron spin-based two-level states molecular qubits. In this study, we investigated the electronic structure and magnetic properties of a Mg3+ cluster embedded in a C20 ring ([Mg3@C20]+) using density functional theory (DFT) and the complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) method. An unpaired electron is located on the Mg3

Leveraging supramolecular design towards spin-state control.

Spin-state control in metallosupramolecular systems represents a central challenge in the design and development of stimuli-responsive molecular materials, with far-reaching implications for sensing, data storage and nanoelectronics. In this feature article, we present a systematic investigation drawing primarily from our recent work and review selected contributions from the broader literature, examining how supramolecular design principles govern spin-state transitions, with a particular emphasis on spin crossover (SCO) behaviour. Through studies spanning coordination cages, helicates and co

Refractive Index Sensing Based on Fano Resonances of a Bus Metal-Insulator-Metal Waveguide with D-Shaped Resonant Cavity.

A plasmonic waveguide coupling cavity structure is proposed, consisting of a bus metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide-coupled single/double D-shaped resonant cavity. The transmission properties, magnetic field distribution, and refractive index sensing performance are simulated using the finite element method (FEM). A clear multi-Fano resonance phenomenon is observed in the transmission spectra. The Fano resonances arise from the interaction between the discrete states of the D-shaped resonant cavity and the continuum state of the bus MIM waveguide. The influence of various structural paramet

Ultrasensitive detection of blood-based p-tau217 for Alzheimer's disease integrated antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates and RCA/Cas12a system.

Tau phosphorylated at threonine 217 (p-tau217) is interesting increasingly as "star biomarker" in the field of Alzheimer's disease (AD) diagnosis due to the highest accuracy in detecting AD pathology and predicting future cognitive decline. Here, we developed an ultra-trace blood-based diagnostic platform for p-tau217, termed magnetic-particle-based Immunol Rolling-circle-amplification/Cas12a Assay (MPIRCA). In this approach, the operational process included two main stages: the preparation of All@MP (encompassing immobilization, capture, and binding) and the subsequent one-pot RCA/Cas12a reac

Orbital-hybridization-induced Ising-type superconductivity in a confined gallium layer.

In low-dimensional superconductors, the interplay between quantum confinement and interfacial hybridization effects can reshape Cooper-pair wavefunctions and give rise to unconventional superconducting states. Here we use plasma-free confinement epitaxy assisted by a carbon buffer layer to synthesize a gallium trilayer sandwiched between graphene and a 6H-SiC(0001) substrate. Within this confined gallium layer, we demonstrate interfacial Ising-type superconductivity driven by atomic orbital hybridization. Electrical transport measurements reveal that the in-plane upper critical magnetic field

Spatially defined Rabi spectroscopy for uninterrupted optical clock interrogation.

Optical lattice clocks achieve fractional frequency uncertainties of 10⁻¹⁸, yet stability is constrained by the dead time between cooling, preparation, interrogation, and detection. This sampling aliases local-oscillator noise into the clock signal (the Dick effect) and prevents continuous accumulation of oscillator phase information. We demonstrate spatially defined Rabi spectroscopy of ultracold ⁸⁸Sr atoms continuously transported in a moving optical lattice. A longitudinal excitation geometry preserves Lamb-Dicke confinement and suppresses Doppler broadening. Clock excitation is enabled onl

Spin Dynamics of the Spin-1 Triangular Lattice Heisenberg Antiferromagnet K_{2}Ni(SeO_{3})_{2}.

Strong quantum fluctuations dominate the spin-1/2 triangular lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet, but their survival at spin-1 remains an open question. We address it in K_{2}Ni(SeO_{3})_{2}, a nearly ideal spin-1 realization, using inelastic neutron scattering. Below the ordering temperature T_{N}, coherent one-magnon excitations coexist with a broad high-energy continuum. Two complementary approaches, a spectrally consistent 1/S-corrected spin-wave theory and a beyond-mean-field Schwinger boson theory, each reproduce distinct facets of the continuum, reflecting multiparticle excitations and t

Comparative Performance Analysis of Five Magnetometers for Geomagnetic Monitoring.

Magnetometers are essential for monitoring the Earth's magnetic field in applications such as geophysics, space weather, navigation, and volcanic studies. While professional-grade instruments provide high reliability, their cost limits spatial coverage, particularly in remote regions. This study presents a comparative analysis of five ground-based magnetometers deployed simultaneously at Universidad Adventista de Chile (36.64° S, 71.99° W) from 5-8 August 2025. Noise, signal stability, and response to geomagnetic variations were evaluated, emphasizing the influence of ambient temperature. Flux

Design of a novel intelligent active magnetic canceling system for mitigating extremely low frequency magnetic interference in high tech fab.

Electromagnetic interference has a significant impact on semiconductor manufacturing quality and product yield. The image quality of the high precision equipment, such as scanning electron microscopes and electron beam lithography machines, is often degraded by electromagnetic interference. Conventional filtered-x least mean squares (FxLMS) algorithm used for active magnetic field cancellation is subject to hardware-induced processing delays on the order of 5-20 ms, which can degrade the noise suppression performance. This paper presents a novel algorithm-based approach that integrates long sh

Quantitative pancreatic MRI in diabetes mellitus: current advances and future directions.

Currently, the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes mellitus (DM) primarily rely on clinical symptoms, blood glucose measurements, and laboratory blood tests. With the continuous advancement of medical imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly being applied to the study of diabetes and its associated complications. Given that the pancreas plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and progression of DM, quantitative MRI techniques have emerged as powerful tools; they provide not only fundamental structural information but also visualize the pathophysiological alterations of the p

The Dynamic Affect Recognition Test: Construction and Validation in Neurodegenerative Syndromes.

Practical, neurologically validated measures of emotion identification are still needed in the dementia field. The Dynamic Affect Recognition Test (DART) was designed to identify emotion reading deficits in persons with dementia (PWD). Participants included 257 early-stage PWD and 115 healthy controls (HC) who underwent DART and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). DART performance was worse in PWD than in HC, with the lowest scores observed in the semantic behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (sbvFTD). DART showed strong diagnostic specificity (areas under the curve (AUCs) ≥82% comparin

Ferroelectricity and Strong Spin-Orbit Coupling to Enhance Molecular Spin-Electric Coupling.

The electric control of magnetism has been considered to be promising for molecular spintronics and quantum information. However, the spin-electric coupling strength appears to be insufficient for application in most cases. Two major factors capable of amplifying the relative effect are spin-orbit coupling and ferroelectricity. Herein, we chose four compounds as examples to study the contribution of spin-orbit coupling and ferroelectricity to spin-electric coupling. The relative orientation-dependent Hamiltonian terms were determined via electric-field modulated continuous-wave electron parama

Multiplex Immunofluorescent Batch Labeling of Marmoset Brain Sections.

PURPOSE: The common marmoset is a small nonhuman primate that has emerged as a valuable animal model in neuroscience research. Accurate analysis of brain tissue is crucial to understand marmoset neurophysiology and to model neurodegenerative diseases. Many studies to date have complemented magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with histochemical staining rather than immunofluorescent labeling, which can generate more informative and higher resolution images. There is a need for high-throughput immunolabeling and imaging methodologies to generate resources for the burgeoning marmoset field, particul
