BACKGROUND: Catheter ablation for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) has a failure rate of 1-5%, particularly when accessory pathways (APs) are located in challenging regions like the posteroseptal or left posterior areas. These cases may involve coronary sinus (CS) APs and anomalies in the coronary venous system, especially in those with a previous failed ablation procedure. Imaging of the coronary venous system obtained by cardiac computed tomography (CT) can help the procedural planning in the presence of challenging anatomy.
CASE SUMMARY: We present the case of a 16-year-old male with W

Motor imagery (MI; the mental rehearsal of movement) activates sensorimotor regions, providing the basis for its effectiveness as an intervention for motor recovery after stroke. Yet, the impact of biological sex on MI-related brain activation after stroke is unexplored. Here, we investigated sex-related differences in MI-related brain activation after stroke and explored associations between questionnaire-based MI ability and MI-related brain activation. Thirty-four individuals with chronic stroke performed MI of a complex, upper-limb movement with their paretic arm/hand. Brain activation was

A cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is an obstruction of the dural venous sinuses caused by a thrombus. The dural sinuses drain into the brain, and when there is a blockage, it can increase the risk of cerebral ischemia or hemorrhage. CVST is very rare in the pediatric population, with only seven cases per million reported each year. This case describes a 2-year-old male who was transferred from a referral hospital with a possible diagnosis of anemia and worsening clinical status. After multiple tests revealed no probable cause for the patient's declining clinical status, a magnetic reso

We describe a case of a 40-year-old Japanese woman with rapidly growing malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) arising from neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1). The patient presented numbness in both legs, back pain, and gait disturbances. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a spinal tumor at the thoracic level. To resolve her symptoms, a laminectomy and intradural tumor resection were performed. The tumor was diagnosed as a neurofibroma with no malignant characteristics. After the surgery, she participated in a rehabilitation program aimed at promoting independence in daily activ

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated cerebral toxoplasmosis is the most frequent cause of ring-enhancing brain lesions in acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients but is often misdiagnosed as neoplasm due to overlapping clinical and radiological features. Seronegative examinations further complicate diagnosis, risking fatal delays in treatment.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 32-year-old male with undiagnosed HIV presented with right hemiparesis, dysarthria, and headache. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a 38×54 mm ring-enhancing left frontoparietal mass with sig

Pituitary apoplexy (PA) is a rare but potentially life-threatening endocrine emergency, typically resulting from sudden-onset haemorrhage within the pituitary gland. If not promptly diagnosed and managed, it can lead to severe hormonal disturbances and neuro-ophthalmic complications with fatal consequences. Early recognition is crucial for improving patient outcomes. Certain conditions increase susceptibility to PA, including pre-existing pituitary adenomas (most commonly non-functioning), the postpartum period, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, sickle cell anaemia, and acute shock. Here, we de

Identifying brain mechanisms implicated in the intergenerational transmission of major depressive disorder (MDD) is crucial for early detection and developing novel interventions. One promising mechanism involves altered intrinsic connectivity patterns in brain networks supporting emotion processing, including within the cognitive control network (CCN). The current preliminary study used resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine whether altered CCN connectivity patterns are a brain-based mechanism of intergenerational risk for depression. We tested whether CCN conne

BACKGROUND Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the middle ear are exceptionally rare, representing less than 2% of primary ear tumors in adults. These neoplasms originate from neuroendocrine cells within the middle ear cavity, posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. CASE REPORT We present a 27-year-old man with a 2-month history of left-sided hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear fullness. Comprehensive assessments, including tuning fork tests, pure tone audiometry, computed tomography (CT) scan of the temporal bone, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), were conducted. Differential di

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent form of dementia that affects an estimated 32 million individuals globally. Identifying early indicators is vital for screening at-risk populations and implementing timely interventions. At present, there is an urgent need for early and sensitive biomarkers to screen individuals at risk of AD. Among all sensory biomarkers, olfaction is currently one of the most promising indicators for AD. Olfactory dysfunction signifies a decline in the ability to detect, identify, or remember odors. Within the spectrum of AD, impairment in olfactory identification prec
