The relation of severe malocclusion to patients' mental and behavioral disorders, growth, and speech problems.

BACKGROUND: Severe malocclusions appear in up to 20 per cent of the population. Many neuropsychiatric diseases are likely to have a neurodevelopmental, partially genetic background with their origins as early as fetal life. However, the possible relationship between neurodevelopmental disorders and severe malocclusions is unclear. The aim of this study was in a population-based setting (270 000 inhabitants) to investigate whether patients with severe malocclusions have more mental and behavioural disorders and growth or speech problems than controls without severe malocclusion. Personal-recovery-oriented community mental healthcare: qualitative evaluation of a developmental project.

OBJECTIVES: Mental healthcare is commonly aimed at reducing symptoms in individual service users. When only symptomatic recovery is addressed, not all service users experience sufficient recovery, and when care is aimed only at individuals (instead of the neighbourhood), not all people in need of mental healthcare are reached. This study evaluated a project that aimed to improve mental healthcare in a neighbourhood, by improving healthcare providers' outreach to the residents living in the neighbourhood, by improving collaboration among healthcare providers and focussing on the residents' pers

[New results of neuroscience research - the background of symptomatological and etiological diversity of mental disorders].

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Nowadays, the focus of genetic, neurobiological, neuropsychological and psychosocial research is on a more accurate discovery of the etiology of mental illnesses, especially with regard to the role and complex interactions of certain risk factors. It is increasingly challenging to interpret the results of different aspects and methodologies in a coherent theoretical framework, as this can only lead to a more accurate understanding of the complexity and mechanism of the psychiatric disorders. The main aim of this paper to overview recent studies on etiological background

Assessing Health Care Burden in Glaucoma Patients with and Without Physical or Mental Comorbidities.

BACKGROUND: Glaucoma is a collection of eye diseases that damage the eye's optic nerve resulting in vision loss and blindness. Treatment for glaucoma is primarily pharmacologic; however, studies have shown patients have difficulty adhering to topical regimens. The reasons for potentially poor adherence are numerous, including influence from a myriad of either physical or mental comorbid conditions faced by many glaucoma patients. Neither adherence nor associated outcomes have been estimated in these 2 groups of glaucoma patients. OBJECTIVES: To (a) characterize glaucoma patients with and with

Association of High-Potency Cannabis Use With Mental Health and Substance Use in Adolescence.

IMPORTANCE: Cannabis use is consistently linked to poorer mental health outcomes, and there is evidence that use of higher-potency cannabis increases these risks. To date, no studies have described the association between cannabis potency and concurrent mental health in a general population sample or addressed confounding using longitudinal data. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between cannabis potency and substance use and mental health outcomes, accounting for preceding mental health and frequency of cannabis use.
