Associations between body composition and gut microbiota in female college students with and without dance training.

Physical activity has been associated with gut microbiota variation and body composition phenotypes, but evidence in female dance students remains limited. This study compared body composition profiles and gut microbiota characteristics between female university students majoring in dance and those from non-dance majors. Seventy students were included (n = 35 per group). Body composition was assessed using bioelectrical impedance analysis (InBody 970), and fecal samples were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Dance students exhibited significantly lower adiposity related parameters and cent

Role of lipid metabolites in mediating causal effects of gut microbiota on type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Using two-sample Mendelian randomization with genome-wide association study (GWAS) data from European-ancestry populations, we identified a significant mediation pathway linking genus Akkermansia to type 2 diabetes (T2D) via phosphatidylcholine (O-18:1_20:3). GWAS data were obtained from the Dutch Microbiome Project (gut microbiota), Finnish cohorts (lipid metabolites), and FinnGen (T2D). Lower levels of phosphatidylcholine (O-18:1_20:3), a protective lipid, mediated the association. The indirect effect was IE = 0.0206 (SE = 0.00187; 95% CI 0.01694-0.02428; P = 3.06 ×10⁻²⁸; OR = e^IE = 1.0208)

Effects of dietary berberine hydrochloride on growth, immunity, meat quality, and fecal microbiota in broiler chickens.

This study aimed to explore the impact of dietary berberine hydrochloride (BBH) on 600 one-day-old AA+ broilers. The broilers were randomly allocated into five groups: a control group (TR) and four experimental groups supplemented with 25, 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg of BBH (designated as Ber25, Ber50, Ber100, and Ber200, respectively). The 42-day experiment consisted of six replicates per group. The results indicated that from 1 to 21 days of age, BBH had no significant influence on growth parameters such as body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), and feed conversion ratio (FCR). However, during

Gut microbiota derived indoles are altered and associate with immune activation in moderate and severe carotid stenosis.

BACKGROUND: An imbalance of gut microbiota, their metabolites as well as inflammatory mediators have been increasingly linked to both atherosclerosis and stroke. However, data on microbiota derived tryptophan and histidine metabolites in carotid atherosclerosis are scarce. PURPOSE: We investigated serum microbiota derived indoles, imidazole propionate (ImP) and trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), representing three distinct gut bacterial-related metabolites, in patients with carotid atherosclerosis compared with healthy controls with normal findings on carotid ultrasound. We aimed to examine their

The Structure-Decoding-Conversion-Effect Paradigm of Natural Polysaccharides for Gut Microbiota Remodeling in Ulcerative Colitis.

Ulcerative colitis (UC), a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, is closely associated with disturbances in the gut microbiota. Natural polysaccharides, owing to their unique "indigestibility" and prebiotic properties, represent a potential strategy for intervening in UC by remodeling the gut microecology. This review summarizes the mechanisms by which natural polysaccharides alleviate UC through modulation of the gut microbiota, with a particular focus on the structure-activity relationship between the structural features of natural polysaccharides and their microbiota-regulating functions. Targeting the Gut-Heart Axis in Diabetic Heart Failure: Microbiota and SGLT2is as Converging Therapeutic Frontiers.

Emerging evidence highlights the gut microbiota as a critical modulator in the pathogenesis of heart failure (HF), particularly among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Dysbiosis contributes to systemic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and adverse cardiac remodeling via microbial metabolites such as trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). However, the therapeutic intersection between the gut microbiota and pharmacological interventions remains insufficiently integrated. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is), a cornerstone of T2DM manag

Analyzing differences in gut microbiota in secondary failure of sulfonylureas through 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolomics.

Currently, sulfonylureas, a class of medications used in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treatment, are widely applied, but the problem of secondary failure isn't fully understood. This study aims to explore the potential mechanisms of secondary failure of sulfonylureas (SFS) and to identify reliable predictive biomarkers. In this study, 16S rDNA sequencing technology and non-targeted metabolomics were used to analyze the differences in gut microbiota and metabolic products between the SFS and sulfonylurea effective (SE) groups. The results of 16S rDNA sequencing indicated that there are diffe

Effect of Diosmetin on Gut Microbiota and Serum Metabolites in Acute Pancreatitis Mice: A Metagenomic and Metabolomic Study.

Diosmetin is a bioactive flavonoid that exhibits well-documented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor properties. However, its potential to attenuate acute pancreatitis (AP) progression through gut microbiota modulation has not yet been elucidated. In this study, mice were pretreated with varying oral doses of diosmetin for 1 week before AP induction via intraperitoneal (i.p.) caerulein injections. The therapeutic efficacy and optimal dosage were determined through histopathological analysis of pancreatic tissue and serological biomarker assessment. Additionally, transcriptomic profi

Adherence to the dietary index for gut microbiota is associated with lower cardiometabolic dysregulation in type 2 diabetes.

Dietary patterns that support gut microbiota may influence interconnected cardiometabolic pathways. We investigated the association between adherence to a gut microbiota-supportive dietary pattern, assessed by the Dietary Index for Gut Microbiota (DI-GM), and multisystem cardiometabolic dysregulation in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). In this cross-sectional study, 385 adults with T2D from diabetes clinics in Zanjan, Iran were included. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated 168-item food frequency questionnaire, and DI-GM scores (0-14) were derived from 14 microbiota-related compone
