Increased body mass index associated with increased preterm delivery in frozen embryo transfers.

The present study was performed to investigate whether maternal body mass index (BMI) affected the live birth (LB) outcomes of frozen embryo transfers (FET) in patients who underwent freeze-all treatment cycles. The autologous intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles with blastocyst freeze-all cycles performed between February 2015 and January 2016 were retrospectively investigated. The 1188 subsequent FET performed were grouped according to maternal BMI classes for analysis; underweight (<18.5 kg/m2; 3.5%), normal-weight (18.5-24.9 kg/m2; 40.1%), overweight (25.0-29.9 kg/m2; 33.7%), or

Healthy Teens @ School: Evaluating and disseminating transdiagnostic preventive interventions for eating disorders and obesity for adolescents in school settings.

BACKGROUND: The worldwide prevalence of overweight and obesity is at alarming levels. Nearly one in three children in Europe is overweight or obese. Disordered eating and body image concerns are equally widespread and increase risk for more chronic and severe weight-related problems. Research has shown that online interventions that address both healthy weight regulation and body image can reduce risk for eating disorders and obesity simultaneously and are feasible to implement in school settings. To date, evaluation and dissemination of such programs in Europe is scant. METHODS: The Healthy

Fish oil supplementation during pregnancy, anthropometrics, and metabolic health at age ten: A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: We previously reported that children of mothers who received fish oil supplementation during pregnancy had higher body mass index [BMI (in kg/m2)] at 6 y of age as well as a concomitant increase in fat-, muscle, and bone mass, but no difference in fat percentage. OBJECTIVES: Here, we report follow-up at age 10 y including assessment of metabolic health. METHODS: This is a follow-up analysis of a randomized clinical trial conducted among 736 pregnant females and their offspring participating in the Copenhagen Prospective Studies on Asthma in Childhood mother-child cohort. Inhibitory control mediates the association between body mass index and math performance in children: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity affect more than 18% of children and adolescents in the world. Obesity-related associations with brain morphology might be associated with reduced efficiency of inhibitory control. This association highlights a possible mechanism by which obesity impacts intelligence and academic achievement. Prior work indicates a mediating effect of inhibitory control on the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and intelligence and academic achievement. However, although obesity is associated with impaired math performance, we do not know whether inhibitory control al

Classification, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Obesity-Related Heart Diseases.

Evidence-based medicine shows that obesity is associated with a wide range of cardiovascular (CV) diseases. Obesity can lead to changes in cardiac structure and function, which can lead to obese cardiomyopathy, subclinical cardiac dysfunction, and even heart failure. It also increases the risk of atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. Many invasive and noninvasive diagnostic methods can detect obesity-related heart disease at an early stage, so that appropriate measures can be selected to prevent adverse CV events. However, studies have shown a protective effect of obesity on clinical o

Effect of double-duty interventions on double burden of malnutrition among adolescents in Debre Berhan Regiopolitan City, Ethiopia: a cluster randomised controlled trial.

Combating the double burden of malnutrition (DBM) in adolescents is a critical public health challenge in low-income countries like Ethiopia. However, past efforts have lacked focus and exhibited diverse governance strategies. Therefore, this study assesses the effect of selected double-duty interventions (DDIs) on DBM among adolescents in Central Ethiopia. The DBM status (thinness, normal, overweight/obesity) was determined using WHO AnthroPlus software. A two-arm parallel cluster randomised controlled trial was used among 708 adolescents (356 for the intervention group [IG] and 352 for the c

Body mass, neuro-hormonal stress processing, and disease activity in lean to obese people with multiple sclerosis.

Overweight and obesity can worsen disease activity in multiple sclerosis (MS). Although psychobiological stress processing is increasingly recognized as important obesity factor that is tightly connected to proinflammatory metabolic hormones and cytokines, its role for MS obesity remains unexplored. Consequently, we investigated the interplay between body mass index (BMI), neural stress processing (functional connectivity, FC), and immuno-hormonal stress parameters (salivary cortisol and T cell glucocorticoid [GC] sensitivity) in 57 people with MS (six obese, 19 over-, 28 normal-, and four und

An exploratory study on excess weight gain: Experiences of Postmenopausal Women in Ghana.

INTRODUCTION: Excess weight gain is a problem with a significant impact on health and quality of life as well as the consequent economic burden on human populations. While society advocates preference for excess weight gain, limited evidence exists concerning postmenopausal women's experiences in Ghana. AIM: The current study explored the experiences regarding excess weight (overweight and obesity) gain among Ghanaian postmenopausal women in Bono East (Techiman) region. METHODS: This is a qualitative exploratory descriptive study where anthropometric measurements [body mass index (BMI), wais

Association of different obesity patterns with hypertension in US male adults: a cross-sectional study.

Obesity is an important risk factor for hypertension. We aimed to investigate the association between different obesity patterns and hypertension risk in a large male population in the US. Male participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) (2007-2018) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Social demographic information, lifestyle factors, anthropometric measurements and biochemical measurements were collected. Three obesity patterns were classified according to the body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC), including overweight and general obes

Increased adiposity is associated with altered skeletal muscle energetics.

The objective of this pilot study was to characterize relationships between skeletal muscle energy metabolism and body composition in healthy adults with varied amounts and distribution of adipose tissue. In vivo muscle energetics were quantified using dynamic 31P magnetic resonance spectroscopy with knee extension exercise standardized to subject lean body mass. Spearman's correlation analysis examined relationships between muscle metabolism indices and measures of adiposity including body mass index (BMI), total body fat, and quadriceps intermuscular adipose tissue (IMAT). Association Between Obesity and Circulating Tumor Cells in Early Breast Cancer Patients.

BACKGROUND: Obesity and the presence of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) before and/or after chemotherapy are associated with poor outcome in breast cancer (BC) patients. The activation of oncogenic pathways in fatty tissue leads to cell proliferation, suggesting a possible link between obesity and CTCs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the phase III SUCCESS A trial, 3754 patients with early BC were randomized to 3 cycles of fluorouracil, epirubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by 3 cycles of docetaxel with or without gemcitabine. Data of 1088 patients with CTC assessments (CellSearch-System; Menarin

Impact of One-Year Dietary Education on Change in Selected Anthropometric and Biochemical Parameters in Children with Excess Body Weight.

Obesity is regarded as a civilization disease that increases mortality and the risk of cardiovascular complications. In Poland, the prevalence of excess body weight in the paediatric population has been steadily increasing. The consequences of excess body weight in the developmental age population affect children's health and destabilize their development. Appropriate dietary interventions are the main non-invasive methods of preventing and treating obesity. They should be aimed at the whole family, optimally with the use of simple tools such as the Healthy Eating Pyramid. Due to the increasin

Clinical Utility and Validity of Exercise Vital Sign in Children.

We reviewed charts of 14,446 sports medicine patients, children aged 5 to 18 years, over a 3-year period to determine the discriminant validity of Exercise Vital Sign (EVS) questions. A logistic regression analyzed factors related to any moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). A linear regression analyzed factors related to amount of MVPA for those who participated in any weekly MVPA. Overall, 48% of children reported meeting physical activity guidelines for 420 min·wk-1. Overall, children reported 400.36 ± 280.04 min·wk-1 of MVPA. Those with depression had significantly less MVPA than

Body mass index at baseline directly predicts new-onset diabetes and to a lesser extent incident cardio-cerebrovascular events, but has a J-shaped relationship to all-cause mortality.

OBJECTIVE: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM), cardio-cerebrovascular diseases (CCVDs) has increased during recent decades. We aimed to investigate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and each of several outcomes (DM, CCVDs, or mortality) based on the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening cohort. METHODS: BMI was categorized as appropriate for Asian populations, into underweight (< 18.5 kg/m2), normal (18.5-< 23 kg/m2), overweight (23-< 25 kg/m2), grade 1 obesity (25-< 30 kg/m2), grade 2 obesity (30-< 35 kg/m2), and grade 3 obesity (≥35 kg/m2).
