Role of MRI radiomics for the prediction of MYCN amplification in neuroblastomas.

OBJECTIVES: We evaluate MR radiomics and develop machine learning-based classifiers to predict MYCN amplification in neuroblastomas. METHODS: A total of 120 patients with neuroblastomas and baseline MR imaging examination available were identified of whom 74 (mean age ± standard deviation [SD] of 6 years and 2 months ± 4 years and 9 months; 43 females and 31 males, 14 MYCN amplified) underwent imaging at our institution. This was therefore used to develop radiomics models. The model was tested in a cohort of children with the same diagnosis but imaged elsewhere (n = 46, mean age ± SD: 5 years

Development and training of a machine learning algorithm to identify patients at risk for recurrence following an arthroscopic Bankart repair (CLEARER): protocol for a retrospective, multicentre, cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder instability is a common injury, with a reported incidence of 23.9 per 100 000 person-years. There is still an ongoing debate on the most effective treatment strategy. Non-operative treatment has recurrence rates of up to 60%, whereas operative treatments such as the Bankart repair and bone block procedures show lower recurrence rates (16% and 2%, respectively) but higher complication rates (<2% and up to 30%, respectively). Methods to determine risk of recurrence have been developed; however, patient-specific decision-making tools are still lacking. Artificial intelligen

Machine learning-based prediction of 1-year mortality using nutritional and inflammatory factors for type A acute aortic dissection with malperfusion.

BACKGROUND: Acute aortic dissection is a life-threatening condition, and malperfusion significantly exacerbates the prognosis of patients diagnosed with type A Acute aortic dissection (ATAAD). Current risk assessment tools often fail to consider the impact of nutritional and inflammatory factors, limiting their predictive accuracy. The aim of this study was to develop a machine learning model that integrates nutritional and inflammatory indices to predict 1-year mortality in ATAAD patients with malperfusion. METHODS: This retrospective study included 433 ATAAD patients with malperfusion from

Graph attention network with comorbidity connectivity embedding for post-traumatic epilepsy risk prediction using sparse time-series electronic health records.

BACKGROUND: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major risk factor for neurological disorders, including post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE), a debilitating condition associated with significant long-term consequences. The prognosis of PTE occurrence remains challenging due to the complex pathophysiology of PTE and the impracticality of traditional blood biomarker- or imaging-based screening for large populations. This study proposes a graph-based deep learning approach that leverages electronic health records (EHR) to enhance the predictive assessment of PTE risk. METHODS: We utilized Oracle Real-Wor

Intratumoral and Peritumoral Fat CT‑Based Radiomics for Predicting Recurrence Risk in Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer: A Two-Center Study.

BACKGROUND: Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) has a high risk of recurrence, and multiple surgeries increase the disease burden on patients. Using computed tomography (CT)-based machine learning, this study established a pre-treatment recurrence prediction model incorporating tumor and peritumoral fat characteristics. This approach may guide early clinical interventions. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 208 NMIBC patients who underwent enhanced CT before transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) with intravesical chemotherapy were collected from two hospitals. Predicting blood lead in Uruguayan children: Individual- vs neighborhood-level ensemble learners.

Predicting childhood blood lead levels (BLLs) has had mixed success, and it is unclear if individual- or neighborhood-level variables are most predictive. An ensemble machine learning (ML) approach to identify the most relevant predictors of BLL ≥2μg/dL in urban children was implemented. A cross-sectional sample of 603 children (~7 years of age) recruited between 2009-2019 from Montevideo, Uruguay participated in the study. 77 individual- and 32 neighborhood-level variables were used to predict BLLs ≥2μg/dL. Three ensemble learners were created: one with individual-level predictors (Ensemble-I

AIMS: Metabolic dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) outcomes such as MASH (metabolic dysfunction associated steatohepatitis), fibrosis and cirrhosis are ordinarily determined by resource-intensive and invasive biopsies. We aim to show that routine clinical tests offer sufficient information to predict these endpoints. METHODS: Using the LITMUS Metacohort derived from the European NAFLD Registry, the largest MASLD dataset in Europe, we create three combinations of features which vary in degree of procurement including a 19-variable feature set that are attained through a rou

Localization and anticipation of seizure onset and propagation using network architecture of pathological high-frequency oscillations.

OBJECTIVE: In focal epilepsies, seizures originate from a presumed seizure onset zone (SOZ) and propagate through a network of dynamically interconnected brain regions. Accurate identification of the SOZ and propagation pathways is critical for surgical planning in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. We tested the hypothesis that pathological high-frequency oscillation (pHFO) network properties can characterize seizure propagation at the individual-patient level. METHODS: We measured pHFOs (80-500 Hz) in >9000 channel-hours of intracranial electroencephalographic data recorded during early

Development and external validation of AI-ECG models in athlete pre-participation screening: Performance, limitations, and clinical implications.

BACKGROUND: Pre-participation screening (PPS) in competitive athletes aims to identify cardiovascular diseases associated with sudden cardiac death (SCD). Although the 12‑lead electrocardiogram (ECG) represents the cornerstone of PPS, structural abnormalities may demonstrate limited or incomplete electrical expression, particularly in asymptomatic athletes with physiological remodeling. Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled ECG models have shown promising performance in hospital-based populations, but their transportability to low-prevalence athlete screening environments remains uncertain. Predicting all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients by combining the CHG index and its obesity indicators: a prospective cohort study with survival prediction model.

BACKGROUND: Hypertension is closely related to the development and mortality of cardiovascular disease (CVD), insulin resistance (IR) plays a key role in hypertension-related metabolic dysfunction, but there is no universally accepted IR marker for hypertensive populations. Recently, the cholesterol-HDL-glucose (CHG) index and its obesity indicators (CHG-BMl, CHG-WC, and CHG-WHtR) have emerged as reliable IR markers. In this research, we aimed to assess their associations with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among hypertensive patients with machine learning analysis. METHODS: Data from

A structure and function-based complete mutational map of human hemoglobin using AI.

Hemoglobin (Hb), a well-characterized protein central to oxygen transport and molecular medicine, serves as a model for studying how sequence variations influence protein structure and function. Its precise activity depends on tightly regulated structural dynamics, which can be disrupted by mutations that give rise to structural hemoglobinopathies, including sickle cell disease, unstable hemoglobins, methemoglobins, and hemoglobins with altered oxygen affinity, each associated with distinct functional and clinical consequences. Among genetic variants, missense mutations are the most widely stu
