Research progress on immunoprotective mechanisms of enteric fever and vaccine development.

BACKGROUND: Enteric fever remains a serious global health challenge. Effective control of enteric fever depends on clean water and proper sanitation, which remains unattainable in resource-limited settings. Vaccination is therefore one of critical preventive measures. Nevertheless, there exists a paucity of systematic reviews integrating pathogenesis, the protective mechanisms, and translational vaccinology developments associated with enteric fever. AIM OF REVIEW: To enhance the mechanistic understanding of enteric fever, this review summarizes the recent advances of pathogenesis, protective

Research advances in the construction of stem cell-derived ovarian organoids.

Ovarian organoids are essential in female reproductive medicine, enhancing our understanding of ovarian diseases and improving treatments, which benefits women's health. Constructing ovarian organoids involves two main processes: differentiating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into germ and ovarian somatic cells to restore ovarian function and using extracellular matrix (ECM) to create a suitable ovarian microenvironment and scaffold. Although the technology is still in its early stages, future advancements will likely involve integrating high-throughput analysis, 3D-printed scaffolds,

Research progress in tumor angiogenesis and drug resistance in breast cancer.

Angiogenesis is considered a hallmark pathophysiological process in tumor development. Aberrant vasculature resulting from tumor angiogenesis plays a critical role in the development of resistance to breast cancer treatments, via exacerbation of tumor hypoxia, decreased effective drug concentrations within tumors, and immune-related mechanisms. Antiangiogenic therapy can counteract these breast cancer resistance factors by promoting tumor vascular normalization. The combination of antiangiogenic therapy with chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy has emerged as a promising approach f

The Research Progress of DNA Methylation in the Development and Function of the Porcine Placenta.

The pig is the most widely consumed domestic animal in China, providing over half of the meat supply in food markets. For livestock, a key economic trait is the reproductive performance, which is significantly influenced by placental development. The placenta, a temporary fetal organ, is crucial for establishing maternal-fetal communication and supporting fetal growth throughout pregnancy. DNA methylation is an epigenetic modification that can regulate the gene expression by recruiting proteins involved in gene silencing or preventing transcription factor binding. To enhance our understanding

[Research Report on the Consistency of Radiation Dose Structured Report (RDSR)].

In 2020, recording and management of exposure doses for computed tomography (CT) became mandatory. In terms of dose management, information regarding the imaged body part is particularly important information for proper tabulation. However, the actual body part to be imaged and the body part information obtained from the device may differ. In this study, we investigated the difference between the imaged area information obtained from a CT device and the dose index when the area is divided into actual areas to be examined using a facility's unique imaging protocol. We collected 734784 radiation

A century of research on the uteroovarian pathway for uterine-induced luteolysis in mammals.

Year 2023 is the 100-year anniversary of the discovery in guinea pigs that the lifespan of the corpus luteum (CL) is controlled by the uterus. The CL is the gatekeeper between two fundamental reproductive events - the estrous cycle and pregnancy. Uteroluteal research for the initial 33 years was productive but limited to laboratory species until the inclusion of farm animals in 1956. In the early 1960s, it was found that uterine luteolysin in sows travels unilaterally from a uterine horn to the adjacent CL which likely accounted for the heyday of uteroluteal research in the 1960s-70s. The lute

[Research progress in dual immune regulation of neutrophils in periodontal inflammation].

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the periodontal tissues triggered by bacterial biofilm, leading to manifestations such as gingival bleeding, tooth mobility, and eventual exfoliation. Neutrophils exhibit a dual role throughout the course of periodontitis, both in defense against pathogens and in potentially detrimental effects on periodontal tissues. This article elucidates the intricate mechanisms underlying the dual functions of neutrophils in periodontitis, including respiratory burst, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation, degranulation, and phagocytosis. A new era of functional experimentation in human hematopoiesis and leukemia research.

Functional experimentation has laid the foundation for our understanding of hematopoietic and leukemic stem cells. Yet, most recently, a flurry of descriptive studies of primary human cells, fueled by rapid technological advances in sequencing technologies, have emerged. These increasing opportunities to describe at great detail have taken precedence over rigorously interrogating functional mediators of biology, particularly in primary human cells. Here, we argue that an improved toolset of gene editing and stem cell biology technologies will allow the field to expand beyond extensive descript

In Vitro Models Used in Cariology Mineralisation Research-A Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Dental caries remains a significant global health problem. One of the fundamental mechanisms underlying the development and progression of dental caries is the dynamic process of demineralisation/remineralisation. In vitro models have played a critical role in advancing our understanding of this process and identifying potential interventions to prevent or arrest dental caries. This literature review aims to provide a structured oversight of in vitro mineralisation models which have been used to study the tooth demineralisation/remineralisation process. METHODS: Publications from

The role of magnesium in the prevention and treatment of dental caries - the latest research.

Magnesium is one of the bioelements necessary for proper human functioning. It is classified as a macronutrient. Together with calcium and phosphorus, it is the main building component of teeth. It has antibacterial properties, as consequence of which it can impede the formation of biofilm and thus reduce inflammation caused by bacterial toxins. Along with calcium, phosphorus and vitamins, magnesium helps maintain the health of the human body. The scientific literature contains an increasing number of studies describing new methods for preventing caries resulting from interference with the ora

mSphere of Influence: The power of polymicrobial partnerships in chronic infection research.

Chelsey VanDrisse works in the field of microbial physiology, studying how acylation of small molecules and proteins affects the development of Pseudomonas biofilms. In this mSphere of Influence article, she reflects on the paper "Community composition shapes microbial-specific phenotypes in a cystic fibrosis polymicrobial model system" by Jean-Pierre et al. This paper prompted her to reassess her approach to studying antibiotic tolerance and her design of experiments that search for disease-relevant mutants and phenotypes in the laboratory.
