Perineal injuries are a common complication of vaginal delivery, affecting 75-85% of women. This review examines current knowledge on risk factors, classification, treatment, and quality of life impacts. Risk factors are divided into maternal, foetal, and labour-related categories. Treatment depends on injury severity. First-degree tears can be managed conservatively, with skin glue or suturing-preferably with synthetic absorbable sutures to reduce pain and infection risk. Second-degree tears and episiotomies respond best to continuous non-locking sutures, improving healing, and minimizing pos

Xanthogranulomatous inflammatory reactions are benign inflammatory processes characterized by aggregating lipid-laden foamy macrophages. Although cases have been reported in different organ systems, these rare reactions predominantly occur in the kidney and gallbladder. We present a 92-year-old female who noticed a palpable, tender mass in the lower inner quadrant of her right breast with no skin changes. She was referred to surgery by her primary care physician on suspicion of malignancy and further evaluation. Ultrasound-guided biopsy, ordered by the primary care provider, revealed a suspici

Health care workers (HCWs) in high tuberculosis (TB) prevalence countries have to care for many cases, thus increasing their risk of infection. The objective of the study was to compare the prevalence of latent TB infection (LTBI) between general HCWs and TB HCWs, and also to explore the associated factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from September 2019 to January 2020. Staff working at two general hospitals were recruited. Those allocated for TB care were classified as TB HCWs, while the remaining were classified as general HCWs. Participants were interviewe

Sustaining a burn injury sets in motion a cycle of pain, disfigurement, and a search for survival. In pediatric burns, the injury extends to the parents where fear, ignorance, and helplessness forever change their lives. Pediatric burn injuries are caused by fire, hot liquids, clothing irons, hair curlers, caustic substances like drain cleaner, the grounding of an electrical source, and exposure to radiation. Efficiency in the delivery of pediatric burn care is critical. Maximizing resource utilization means continual self-evaluation and economic analysis of therapeutic modalities. Griffiths e

PROBLEM: Infection is a major problem in the health and wellbeing of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical facilities as well as the homecare patients and the general public. According to Scientia Advisors, wound care costs the healthcare system over $7 billion in 2009. After adding the cost associated with potential complications such as infections, extended physician care, and lengthy hospital stays, the annual wound care expenditures well exceeded over $20 billion.1 There are 20 million reported cases of diabetes per year and more every day. BACKGROUND: Bathing cleanses the skin, and the wiping and scrubbing movements during bathing stimulate blood circulation and help oxygenate tissues. There are two types of baths commonly used in intensive care: the traditional bath is washing the child with running water in the bed, and the wiping bathis wiping the child with warm, damp cloths. We planned this study to determine the effect of traditional and wiping baths on vital parameters (pulse rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, body temperature, mean blood pressure) and comfort of children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

INTRODUCTION: Skin lesions are a common extraintestinal manifestation associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), although they may also appear as a complication of IBD treatment. Prompt referral to the dermatologist can be very helpful in practice. Teledermatology complements the traditional in-person health care modality, improving access to dermatological care.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a store-and-forward teledermatology electronic consultation (e-consult) program on the care of IBD patients.
METHODS: A retrospective study assessing the outcomes of our teledermatology pr

Stasis dermatitis (SD), an inflammatory dermatosis occurring on the lower extremities, is a cutaneous manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). SD is associated with a significant burden of disease. Symptoms such as pain, swelling, and itching can be debilitating for patients, leading to poor sleep, loss of mobility, and the inability to perform daily activities, and can interfere with work and leisure activities. Moreover, SD is a progressive disease with serious secondary complications such as ulcerations, which increase the patients' morbidity, reduce their quality of life, and i

Primary care physicians can play a crucial role by recognising Sjögren's syndrome (SS) in the early stages identifying those patients with the greatest probability of being diagnosed with SS. SS has a very specific epidemiological profile at presentation (female aged 30-50 years), which may aid an early diagnosis. Although the disease may be expressed in many guises, there are three predominant clinical presentations that should be considered as key clues to increased clinical suspicion (multiple symptoms of dryness, asthenia-polyalgia syndrome and systemic organ-specific manifestations). Simulation-based training, research and quality initiatives are expanding in pediatric anesthesiology just as in other medical specialties. Various modalities are available, from task trainers to standardized patients, and from computer-based simulations to mannequins. Computer-controlled mannequins can simulate pediatric vital signs with reasonable reliability; however the fidelity of skin temperature and color change, airway reflexes and breath and heart sounds remains rudimentary. Current pediatric mannequins are utilized in simulation centers, throughout hospitals in-situ, at national meet

Physicians taking care of infants in the first days of life are often faced with neonatal jaundice, especially in an era where post-partum discharge occurs earlier and assessment of newborn bilirubinemia status is required prior to discharge. The Canadian Pediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics have developed and published guidelines for the diagnosis and management of hyperbilirubinemia in newborns. Point of care testing refers to any test performed outside of laboratory by clinical personnel and close to the site of patient care. Based on a summary of multiple reports during

Assessment of strategies for engineering controls for the prevention of airborne infectious disease transmission to patients and to health care and related workers requires consideration of the factors relevant to aerosol characterization. These factors include aerosol generation, particle size and concentrations, organism viability, infectivity and virulence, airflow and climate, and environmental sampling and analysis. The major focus on attention to engineering controls comes from recent increases in tuberculosis, particularly the multidrug-resistant varieties in the general hospital popula

Glomus tumors, rare neoplasms showing differentiation resembling the glomus body associated with the skin, present significant diagnostic challenges due to their rarity and potential for misdiagnosis. This study reports on a 26-year-old woman whose imaging initially suggested renal cell carcinoma; however, histopathological analysis of the partial nephrectomy identified the mass as a glomangioma. Alongside this report, we provide a comprehensive review of the literature, emphasizing the importance of histopathological examination in differentiating these tumors. The unique hereditary findings

Langerhanscell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare malignant disease, which commonly occurs during childhood and adolescence, but may also be seen in adult patients. Although LCH lesions are mostly found in bones, skin and the pituitary gland, the disease may affect almost each organ and cause a variety of symptoms. There are differences between pediatric and adult patients regarding diagnostics and therapy. Better insights in the pathophysiology of the disease resulted in the development of new therapeutic approaches such as the use of RAF or MAP-Kinase inhibitors and may help to guide therapy. Alt
