The commonest cause of faecal incontinence is considered to be childbirth. In this review we consider the available data on the prevalence of faecal incontinence in the community and the incidence of incontinence after childbirth. The results and implications of studies on childbirth using anal manometry, neurophysiological tests and anal ultrasound are discussed. Prevalences of hypertension and orthostatic hypotension and their relationship to the microvascular complications of diabetes were assessed in 702 individuals aged 18-74 years, who had been selected as a representative sample of surviving patients with diabetes diagnosed at the Joslin Clinic between 1939 and 1965. BACKGROUND: Up to 30% of patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy continue to have elevated blood pressures after delivery, often necessitating medication titration or hospital evaluation in the weeks following hospital discharge. BACKGROUND: Intraarticular steroid injections are a common first-line therapy for severe osteoarthritis, which affects an estimated 27 million people in the United States. Although topical, oral, intranasal, and inhalational steroids are known to increase intraocular pressure in some patients, the effect of intraarticular steroid injections on intraocular pressure has not been investigated, to the best of our knowledge. If elevated intraocular pressure is sustained for long periods of time or is of sufficient magnitude acutely, permanent loss of the visual field can occur.
