Eighteen patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome were studied over a 20 year period to determine the pattern of initial mortality and long-term survival. There were eight early deaths, two due to malignancy, two following surgery, three due to hepatic failure or portal hypertension and one due to septicaemia. Fifty-four patients with clinically and surgically localized prostatic carcinoma were treated with low-dose preoperative irradiation (1,050 cGy), pelvic lymphadenectomy, and interstitial 125Iodine implantation. UNLABELLED: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic disease that progresses to end-stage liver disease. This report is a retrospective analysis of a Canadian centre experience with liver transplantation (LT) for PSC. Of 1107 LTs performed between 1984 and 2002, 132 were performed on 111 patients with PSC. Patient survival at 1, 3, 5, and 10 years was 84.5%, 84.5%, 83.4%, and 68.9%, respectively. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to study the clinical outcome for patients with metastases of the adrenal gland treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-six patients were studied retrospectively. The dose prescription was 40 Gy in four fractions. In order to evaluate the results of radiosurgery for acoustic tumors and to identify optimum treatment parameters, an analysis of tumor control, as well as incidences of hearing loss, facial and trigeminal neuropathies was undertaken. Patients (n = 18) with a primary brain tumour near the third ventricle and treated by radiotherapy were retrospectively analysed. Four different subgroups of patients, according to the histology (germ cell tumours, astrocytomas, other histologies, no histology) were separately discussed. Third ventricle tumours were more frequent in younger patients (less than 30 years). Five years actuarial disease free survival was 62%. Six out of 18 patients died of disease, the others are currently alive without evidence of disease.

In a retrospective study of choroidal and ciliary body malignant melanomas in black patients, we found that the death rates due to metastatic melanoma after enucleation were equivalent for 39 blacks and 3,339 whites. In an attempt to characterize the prognostic significance of the main initial clinical, haematological and biochemical features of chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia according to the FAB criteria, 29 such patients were analysed by means of univariate and multivariate statistical methods.
