The Effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation of Sympathetic Ganglions and Acupuncture Points on Distal Blood Flow.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a widely-practiced method to increase blood flow in clinical practice. The best location for stimulation to achieve optimal blood flow has not yet been determined. We compared the effect of TENS application at sympathetic ganglions and acupuncture points on blood flow in the foot of healthy individuals. Seventy-five healthy individuals were randomly assigned to three groups. The first group received cutaneous electrical stimulation at the thoracolumbar sympathetic ganglions. The second group received stimulation at acupuncture points. The t

Proposed catalog of the neuroanatomy and the stratified anatomy for the 361 acupuncture points of 14 channels.

BACKGROUND: In spite of the extensive research on acupuncture mechanisms, no comprehensive and systematic peer-reviewed reference list of the stratified anatomical and the neuroanatomical features of all 361 acupuncture points exists. This study creates a reference list of the neuroanatomy and the stratified anatomy for each of the 361 acupuncture points on the 14 classical channels and for 34 extra points. METHODS: Each acupuncture point was individually assessed to relate the point's location to anatomical and neuroanatomical features. The design of the catalogue is intended to be useful fo

Does the outcome of acupuncture differ according to the location of sham needling points in acupuncture trials for migraine? A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Various acupuncture clinical trials have been conducted on migraine; however, the conclusions remain controversial especially when acupuncture was compared with sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture is sometimes performed at the same acupuncture points used for verum acupuncture despite the evidence on acupuncture point specificity. Four databases were searched for sham acupuncture or waiting list-controlled acupuncture trials for migraine on December 25, 2023. Sham acupuncture was classified according to the needling points: sham acupuncture therapy at verum points (SATV) or at sham points (SATS

Acupuncture and Trigger Point Injections for Fibromyalgia: East-West Medicine Case Report.

Fibromyalgia is a clinical syndrome characterized by chronic widespread pain that is often accompanied by ≥1 concomitant symptoms (eg, fatigue, poor sleep, cognitive alterations, and mood disturbances). In 2005, an estimated 5 million people in the United States suffered from fibromyalgia, and its growing effect on health-related quality of life is substantial. An increasingly popular hypothesis proposes that noxious, peripheral sensory input might contribute to the initiation and perpetuation of the diffuse pain seen in patients with fibromyalgia. That theory has led to the evaluation of mult

[Effect of acupuncture on the restrained state of stomach after injecting TFP in zusanli point].

A model of the reducible movement of stomach in a big mouse was set up by injecting solution of 654-2. At first, the state of stomach movement was proved to be improved by acupuncture. After that, the activity of CaM in Zusanli point was lost by injecting TFP and effect of acupuncture on the stomach movement was studied. The result showed that the effect of acupuncture was abolished during manipulating the needles for 5 minutes. But retaining the needle for 25 minutes, the effect of acupuncture was recovered gradually. It indicates that the activity of Ca-CaM compounds may be of the key factor
