Adenomyoma of the uterus is a biphasic nodular lesion composed of a mesenchymal component with smooth muscle differentiation and a glandular epithelium. The neoplastic nature of uterine adenomyomas has been controversial because some are considered to be nodular adenomyosis. In this article, we report a case of two synchronous ileal adenomyomas leading to intussusception. This rare occurrence has never been reported in the literature. Our case is noteworthy, because the lesion is rare and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intussusception in adults.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of Atypical Polypoid Adenomyoma of the uterus (APA).
METHODS: A retrospective study was made of 17 patients with APA, who were hospitalized at Peking Union Medical College Hospital from 2003 to 2010. We report a case of adenomyoma of endocervical type arising in a 44-year-old female. Grossly, a well-circumscribed tumor protruding from the right side of the uterine cervix was seen which was assumed to be an ovarian tumor by imaging studies carried out preoperatively. Atypical polypoid adenomyoma (APAM) is a rare polypoid benign tumor of the uterus that causes irregular vaginal bleeding in women of reproductive age. Adenomyoma of the small intestine is an extremely rare entity characterized by a mixture of glandular structures lined by columnar epithelium, with intervening bundles of smooth muscle. We report a case of adenomyoma of the jejunum that caused intussusception in an adult. We report herein the case of a 52-year-old woman who presented with severe abdominal pain and a 2-week history of a yellow vaginal discharge. An emergency operation was performed for localized peritonitis attributed to acute perforated appendicitis.
