Mesodermal (müllerian) adenosarcoma of the ovary: a clinicopathologic analysis of 40 cases and a review of the literature.

Forty cases of mesodermal adenosarcoma of the ovary occurred in women 30-84 years of age (mean 54 years). Abdominal discomfort and distension were the usual complaints. All the patients were treated with an oophorectomy, which was accompanied by a hysterectomy in 85%, a contralateral oophorectomy in 65%, and nonsurgical therapy in 28%. Tumor rupture occurred at or before the operation in 67% of the cases. Twenty-six tumors were stage I, 11 stage II, and 3 stage III. The tumors were unilateral in 97.5% of the cases and 5.5-50 cm (mean 14 cm) in greatest dimension; most of the tumors were predom

Extrauterine Müllerian adenosarcoma of the peritoneum with an extensive rhabdomyosarcomatous element and a marked myxoid change.

A case of extrauterine Müllerian adenosarcoma of the peritoneum in a 20-year-old woman is reported. The tumor was widely based on the abdominopelvic wall and there were no unusual features in the genital organs. The cut surface of the tumor showed a marked gelatinous appearance. The tumor was composed of an admixture of benign Müllerian-type epithelium and sarcomatous stroma. The predominant element of the sarcomatous area was rhabdomyosarcoma, which showed a close resemblance to well-differentiated embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. In another sarcomatous area, fibroblastic cells without myoblastic

Müllerian adenosarcoma presenting as cervical polyps: a report of seven cases and review of the literature.

OBJECTIVE: To emphasize the importance of early diagnosis in cases of müllerian adenosarcoma that appeared as benign-looking cervical polyps. METHODS: We examined seven cases of müllerian adenosarcoma of the uterus in patients 14-63 years of age (median 39 years). Tissue protruding from the external os and an initial diagnosis of a cervical polyp were common findings for all patients. On repeated examination, all lesions were interpreted as müllerian adenosarcomas. RESULTS: Histologic examination demonstrated benign glands with a sarcomatous stroma, which typically formed periglandular cuffs

Müllerian adenosarcoma likely arising from adenomyosis: A case report of a rare diagnostic challenge.

Müllerian adenosarcoma (MAS) is a rare uterine neoplasm, typically arising from the endometrial surface. MAS originating from adenomyosis is exceptionally uncommon, with fewer than 10 cases reported, and poses diagnostic, staging, and therapeutic challenges. We report a 35-year-old nulliparous woman presenting with 6 months of abnormal uterine bleeding and iron-deficiency anemia. Initial imaging suggested benign endometrial polyps and fibroids, and two hysteroscopic curettages yielded benign findings. Persistent symptoms prompted further MRI and CT evaluation, revealing a large, heterogeneousl

Müllerian adenosarcoma with ovarian sex cord-like differentiation. A light- and electron-microscopic study.

A Müllerian adenosarcoma in which the sarcomatous element showed ovarian sex-cord like differentiation, occurred as a polypoid growth in the uterine cervix of a 53-year-old woman. The tumor was composed of an admixture of benign neoplastic glands and a sarcomatous stroma, the latter containing in addition to endometrial stromal sarcoma, nests of lipid-rich cells resembling ovarian sex-cord elements. This is the first report of such differentiation in Müllerian adenosarcoma. Origin from a focus of cervical endometriosis is postulated.

Identification of increased dedifferentiation along the Prom1+ cancer cells in Müllerian adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth.

BACKGROUND: Müllerian adenosarcoma (MA) is a rare tumour accounts for 5-7% of uterine sarcomas. Tumours with sarcomatous overgrowth (MASO) or high-grade tend to be aggressive. However, the tumour aetiology is elusive. METHODS: Single-cell RNA sequencing and bioinformatics were used to analyse the MASO and paired normal tissues. Expression and clinical significance of key genes were analysed by TCGA data and immunohistochemistry. In vitro experiment was used to verify the effect of E2F1 in cell dedifferentiation. RESULTS: We prove malignant stromal cells originate from fibrous tissue, Prom1-d

Mullerian adenosarcoma accidentally detected and coexisting with cervical carcinoma in situ: a rare case report.

Mullerian adenosarcoma is rare, usually found in the uterine corpus and rarely in the cervix. Adenosarcoma that grows diffusely in the uterine cavity and the cervical canal is even rarer without symptoms. Herein, we report a rare case of multiple primary malignant neoplasms of Mullerian adenosarcoma accidentally detected and coexisting with cervical carcinoma in situ. Fortunately, the tumor was in the early stage and the Mullerian adenosarcoma was treated together with the cervical carcinoma in situ by hysterectomy + bilateral adnexectomy. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry results confir

Mullerian adenosarcoma (heterologous) of uterine cervix with sarcomatous overgrowth: A case report with review of the literature.

Mullerian adenosarcoma is a rare biphasic malignant neoplasm of cervix characterized by an admixture of benign epithelial elements and a malignant sarcomatous stromal component, which may be either homologous or heterologous. Mullerian adenosarcoma with stromal overgrowth (MASO) in an aggressive variant of adenosarcoma, which is extremely rare with only two such cases reported till date. In this report, we present a case of MASO of cervix with heterologous elements in a 55/F presenting with postmenopausal bleeding. As it commonly simulates clinically and radiologically as benign cervical polyp

Mullerian adenosarcoma of the cervix in a 10-year-old girl: case report and review of the literature.

UNLABELLED: Müllerian adenosarcoma is a rare neoplasm usually found in postmenopausal women. It usually presents as a polypoid mass within the endometrium. It is a biphasic tumor, composed of a benign epithelial component and a malignant stromal component. To date, this neoplasm has been reported in only 16 adolescent girls. We present a case of a 10-year-old girl who was diagnosed with müllerian adenosarcoma arising from the endocervix, the youngest female ever reported. CASE REPORT: A 10-year-old previously healthy girl presented to the Emergency Department at the Children's Hospital of Eas

Fertility-sparing strategy in a rare case of uterine adenosarcoma and consecutive spontaneous pregnancy and livebirth.

INTRODUCTION: We present the rare case of a 29-year-old patient with uterine adenosarcoma who received fertility-sparing treatment, subsequently conceived spontaneously, and gave birth to a healthy infant. CASE: In August 2022, the nulliparous patient presented with acyclic uterine bleeding. Diagnostic hysteroscopy and targeted resection of a polyp located at the cervicouterine junction revealed uterine adenosarcoma without sarcomatous overgrowth (FIGO stage T1a). Imaging confirmed no residual tumor or metastasis. A fertility-sparing management strategy was chosen, avoiding hysterectomy but i

Müllerian adenosarcoma in a young adult: A case report and literature review of diagnostic and management challenges.

BACKGROUND: Müllerian adenosarcoma is a rare biphasic uterine malignancy typically affecting postmenopausal women. Its occurrence in young, nulliparous women is extremely uncommon, presenting diagnostic challenges, especially in cases of presumed recurrences. CASE PRESENTATION: A 22-year-old nulliparous woman presented with a presumed recurrent, enlarging prolapsing uterine mass and post-coital bleeding. Her history was notable for two prior excisions of a similar mass without histopathological review. Examination revealed a 6 cm friable mass protruding through the cervical os. Given the recu

[Uterin adenosarcoma: French Guidelines of the French Sarcoma Group and the Rare Gynecologic Tumor Group].

Uterine adenosarcoma is a very rare malignancy defined as a biphasic tumor composed of both benign epithelial component and a malignant sarcoma component. The stage of the disease is determined by the presence of myometrial invasion and the extent of extra-uterine disease. The most important histopronostic factors are the existence of a sarcomatous overgrowth defined by a sarcomatous contingent occupying more than 25 % of the volume of the tumor (directly correlated to the grade of the disease), the presence of a heterologous and/or a high-grade component. Stage I adenosarcomas without sarcoma

Uterine Adenosarcoma Originating in Adenomyosis: Report of an Extremely Rare Phenomenon and Review of Published Literature.

Müllerian adenosarcoma is an uncommon biphasic malignant tumor most often occurring in the uterine corpus and derived from native surface endometrium. We report a case of intramural uterine adenosarcoma arising in association with adenomyosis, in the absence of tumor involving the surface endometrium. This is an extremely rare phenomenon, with only 8 other published cases of uterine corpus adenosarcoma in the absence of surface endometrial involvement, 5 originating in adenomyosis and 3 in adenomyomas. We review these cases. The current FIGO staging system for uterine adenosarcoma assumes orig

Adenosarcoma of the uterine body initially presenting as an interstitial small tumor of the uterus: a case report.

Adenosarcoma of the uterine body is a rare mixed tumor in which a benign epithelial component is mixed with a malignant stromal element. It has been considered that this tumor originates from the endometrium and its most common finding of imaging is a polypoid tumor occupying the uterine cavity. The authors herein present a case of 37-year-old female with a complaint of abnormal vaginal bleeding. At the first visit, transvaginal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a round mass with a diameter of one cm in the uterine wall. No malignant pathological finding was detected. Benign and low grade variants of mixed mesodermal tumor (adenosarcoma) of the ovary and adnexal region.

Eleven examples of a rare group of neoplasms composed of both epithelial and mesenchymal components are reported. Ten arose from the ovary and one arose separately in the para-ovarian region. The neoplasms are distinctive in that the stoma is more cellular than that of adenofibromas, but epithelial component is not malignant, as in carcinosarcoma and mixed mesodermal tumors, and the stoma is not sarcomatous in the low grade varieties. The 11 cases were highly variable in the cellularity and atypism of the stromal cells. The term, adenosarcoma, for these tumors is not acceptable because some we
