Cyanoacrylate (CA) and its homologues have a variety of medical and commercial applications as biological adhesives and sealants. Homologues of CA are being widely promoted in surgery as a tissue adhesive to replace traditional suturing techniques. Potential benefits of using CA adhesives include better cosmetic results, more rapid wound closure, and perhaps most significantly, the potential for significant reductions in percutaneous injuries from suture needles, which would in turn also reduce the risk of transmission of infectious diseases. Nevertheless, certain concerns have been raised reg

In vitro tensile bond strengths were determined for three adhesive cements and two resin-bonded bridge cements to two alloys, each prepared by two methods: sandblasted Ni-Cr-Be alloy (I), electro-etched Ni-Cr-Be alloy (II), sandblasted Type IV gold alloy (III), and tin-plated Type IV gold alloy (IV). Storage conditions of 24 hours at 37 degrees C and 30 days at 70 degrees C were evaluated. The highest bond strengths were obtained for the electro-etched Ni-Cr-Be alloy, and all bond failures were cohesive. At both 24 hours and 30 days, the adhesive cements had the highest bond strengths to the o

Manufacturing of wood-based panels predominantly relies on formaldehyde-containing adhesives, whose volatile organic compound emissions raise serious concerns about indoor air quality and human health. Although bio-based adhesives derived from proteins, polysaccharides, or lignin have been explored, achieving strong bonding performance while maintaining green, scalable, and practical processability remains challenging. In this study, we present a waterborne wood adhesive in which zein protein is dispersed within a viscous micellar lignin gel. Drawing inspiration from the interactions between p

The molecular architecture (topology) of bottlebrush polymers, featuring densely grafted side chains along a polymeric backbone, leads to unique physical properties, enabling their use as functional materials including elastomers and pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs). Bottlebrush polymers can form additive-free PSAs due to their architecture, but most are crosslinked materials that include all-carbon backbones, have thermally unstable disulfide bonds, or do not reach the high molar masses needed for bottlebrush PSAs. Here, we applied the alternating free-radical copolymerization of sulfur di

The practical problem of free formaldehyde pollution in the plywood industry is that polyethylene films have been shown to be able to replace some urea-formaldehyde resins for wood adhesives. To broaden the variety of thermoplastic plywood, reduce the hot-press temperature, and save energy consumption, an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) film was selected as a wood adhesive to manufacture a novel wood-plastic composite plywood via hot-press and secondary press processes. The effects of the hot-press and secondary press processes at different levels on the physical-mechanical properties of EVA plyw

The natural clinging ability of geckos has inspired hundreds of studies seeking design principles that could be applied to creating synthetic adhesives with the same performance capabilities as the gecko: adhesives that use no glue, are self-cleaning and reusable, and are insensitive to a wide range of surface chemistries and roughness. Important progress has been made, and the basic mechanics of how 'hairy' adhesives work have been faithfully reproduced, advancing theory in surface science and portending diverse practical applications. However, after 15 years, no synthetic mimic can yet perfo

Bone and tissue adhesives are common and beneficial supplements to standard methods of musculoskeletal tissue suture repair. Knowledge and development of biologically derived or inspired adhesives useful in orthopedic surgery are rapidly advancing. Recent literature demonstrates the increased adjunct or primary use of biological adhesives in the repair of musculoskeletal soft tissues, chondral fractures, and osteochondral fractures. Adhesives offer more benefits and enhancements to tissue healing than current fixation methods afford, including improved biocompatibility, resorbability, and non-

Tissue adhesives have a long history of use in almost all surgical disciplines, both as an alternative and a complement to sutures. Nevertheless, ophthalmologists have restricted knowledge of their potential applications; consequently, tissue adhesives have been underutilized so far. This review discusses the most relevant clinical and experimental advances in the use of tissue adhesives in ophthalmology and details the characteristics and properties of the glues. Among the currently available adhesives, synthetic glues are mainly represented by cyanoacrylates and biologic glues by fibrin-base

The object of this paper is to evaluate the marginal filtration occurring between restoration/teeth in cavities filled with silver alloy when using different cavity varnish and adhesives. In 50 teeth removed as a result of decay, cavities were prepaired on vestibular faces and were divided into 5 equal groups: Group A: with no caviti varnish; Group B: two coats of a linkin agent (Scotch Bond 3M); Group C: an amalgam liner base (Voco); Group D; two coats of copal varnish: Group E: an amalgam bond base (Carl San Remo, Germany). All groups were filled with a silver alloy. The teeth were inmersed

Vertically stacked electronics require thermal interface adhesives that conduct heat through confined bondlines while retaining adhesion after placement. Yet, highly filled ceramic adhesives are still commonly designed as bulk composites, with performance pursued by increasing filler loading or filler conductivity. This view overlooks how heat transport and adhesion are determined within the formed bondline, where filler connectivity, shear-dependent processability, wetting, and trapped air collectively govern performance. Here, we introduce a rheology-guided bondline densification strategy fo

Condensed tannin copolymerized with hyperbranched tris(2-aminoethyl)amine-urea formed by amine-amido deamination yields a particleboard thermosetting adhesive without any aldehydes satisfying the requirements of relevant standards for the particleboard internal bond strength. The tannin-triamine-urea cures well at 180 °C, a relatively low temperature for today's particleboard hot pressing. As aldehydes were not used, the formaldehyde emission was found to be zero, not even in traces due to the heating of wood. The effect is ascribed to the presence of many reactive sites, such as amide, amino,

In this study, three kinds of two-component adhesive glues were prepared, namely, gel-dext glue made from modified gelatin and dextran, gel-HES glue made from modified gelatin and hydroxyethyl starch (HES), and chit-dext glue made from chitosan and modified dextran. Upon mixing the two-component solution together crosslinking occurred and a gel formed in several seconds, which would seal the wound tissue and stop the bleeding. The adhesive ability of those three prepared glues was evaluated in vitro and in vivo separately by measuring the bonding strength to two piece of porcine skin and the a
