Differences in calcium oxalate crystal growth inhibition were studied in normally voided urine (bladder urine) and in urine collected directly from the kidney (kidney urine) in nine dogs. Urine samples were collected before and 10 days after bilateral ureterostomies. Calcium oxalate crystal growth inhibition was measured in a standard seeded crystal growth system. METHOD: The clinical and pathologic data of 67 outpatients with scleredema who were admitted to PUMC Hospital from 1982 to 2008 were retrospectively analyzed.

This study compares the in vitro ultrastructure of Streptomyces somaliensis with the grain formation seen in vivo. Cultured forms were cocco-bacillary with thick cell walls and septa. Individual cells stained with PAS.TCH and Alcian blue. Grains were largely composed of an electron-dense fibrillar matrix surrounding clear areas, some of which contained organisms. The ultrastructural appearances of the latter were not significantly different from those seen in vitro although the cell wall was less well defined and did not stain with Alcian blue, and there were more intracellular lipid droplets.

Multifunctional granular mast cells (MCs) are among targets in bronchial asthma (BA) therapy. METHODS: Twenty-four male and female C57BL/6 mice, 8 untreated and 16 exposed to experimental ocular surface desiccating stress (DS). We describe our experience with an apparently immunocompetent child presenting with pyrexia of unknown origin without focal signs. Investigations revealed lymphadenopathy at lung hila, mesentery, and porta hepatis. The child had received at least two months of empiric antituberculous therapy (ATT) before she came to us. A CT-guided biopsy revealed granulomatous inflammation. PAS stain showed yeasts which stained blue with Alcian blue, suggesting C. neoformans.
