Polysaccharides from Alpinia oxyphylla fruit prevent hyperuricemia by inhibiting uric acid synthesis, modulating intestinal flora and reducing renal inflammation.

Hyperuricemia (HUA) is one of the most common chronic diseases today, with a prevalence exceeding 14 % in both the United States and China. Current clinical treatments for HUA focus on promoting uric acid (UA) excretion and inhibiting UA production, but often neglect the strain on the liver and kidneys. The fruit of Alpinia oxyphylla (A. oxyphylla) is known to improve renal function, regulate metabolism, and exhibit anti-inflammatory effects; however, its effectiveness and mechanisms in treating HUA are not well understood. In this study, HUA mice induced by potassium oxonate and adenine were

Magnoflorine, a dietary alkaloid from Alpinia oxyphylla fruit, ameliorates colitis by restoring intestinal barrier and dual modulation of JAK/STAT3 pathway.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management necessitates novel, diet-compatible therapeutics. Using untargeted metabolomics, we identified magnoflorine as the key anti-colitis alkaloid from the edible fruit Alpinia oxyphylla. Integrated network pharmacology, molecular docking, and a zebrafish colitis model revealed that magnoflorine directly binds to core targets including SRC and STAT3. In DSS-induced colitis, magnoflorine restored intestinal barrier integrity (upregulating ZO-1, occludin, and mucin) and rebalanced inflammatory responses (suppressing TNF-α and IL-6 while promoting IL-22 and d

Alpinia Oxyphylla-Shenqi Siwu Decoction protects against high glucose-induced retinal pigment epithelial cell injury involving the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of vision loss in working-age adults, and current treatments (anti-VEGF drugs, steroids, laser photocoagulation) mainly target late-stage microvascular complications while offering little for the neurodegeneration and neurovascular unit dysfunction that characterize early DR. Multi-component, multi-target traditional Chinese medicine compound decoctions are attractive candidates for early intervention. Here we investigated the protective effect and molecular mechanism of Alpinia Oxyphylla-Shenqi Siwu Decoction (AOSWSD) in a high glucose-
