Angiolipomas of the hand and wrist are rare presentations with only a few case reports in the literature. These subtypes of lipomas can be infiltrating or noninfiltrating, often affecting treatment outcomes and strategies. Angiolipomas can present as tender masses and, on average, will appear much larger than simple lipomas. We present a case involving a patient with a large palmar noninfiltrating angiolipoma as a cause of carpal tunnel syndrome. The patient was treated with surgical excision, leading to the resolution of his carpal tunnel symptoms.

Cellular angiolipoma is a rare variant of angiolipoma. To date, only a few reports have been published in the literature. In this report, we analyzed a series of 12 cases to further evaluate this entity. Seven patients were men and 5 were women, aged from 23 to 62 years (average, 39 years). Clinically, the lesions occurred predominantly in the subcutaneous tissue of the extremities and trunk wall, usually as part of multiple small tender nodules. We report a rare case of cellular angiolipoma of the breast in a 73-year-old woman with abnormal mammographic findings. Follow-up of two hepatic angiolipomas in a patient without evidence of tuberous sclerosis is reported. Initially, the lesions presented as homogenously enhancing masses, which were nearly isodense to normal liver tissue on plain CT scans. Focal nodular hyperplasia was assumed. One year later, fat was detected in the growing tumors and percutaneous core biopsy revealed hepatic angiolipomas. Natural history of these rare lesions is unknown, and this is to the best of our knowledge the first observation of fatty metamorphosis in such a benign, mesenchymal hepatic neoplasm.

A 73-year-old man was hospitalized with upper abdominal pain of 1-month duration. Gastroscopy revealed a pedunculated polypoid mass with smooth surface and slightly yellowish color in the duodenal bulb. A long strip shaped mass with very low density in the duodenal was found in abdominal computed tomography . The mass was removed successful by endoscopic mucosal resection. The resected specimen measured 1.5 × 3.0-cm. Histopathology examination revealed a tumor in the submucosa which composed of mature adipose tissue and proliferative blood vessels. The final diagnosis was duodenal angiolipoma.

BACKGROUND: Spinal angiolipomas (SA) are rare primary tumors accounting for 0.14-1.2% of all spinal cord and spine tumors and approximately 3% of extradural spinal neoplasms (<0.1% of all primary CNS tumors).
