Prevalence of anisometropia and associated factors in Shandong school-aged children.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate anisometropia's prevalence and associated factors in school-aged children. METHODS: A cross-sectional school-based study was conducted in Shandong Province, China, including children aged 4 to 17 from 9 schools. Anisometropia was defined as the differences between the two eyes in spherical equivalent (SE) or cylinder degree of 1.00 diopter (D) or more [SE or cylindrical (CYL) difference ≥ 1.00 D] after cycloplegic autorefraction. The Generalized Linear Model (GLM) was used to analyze the effects of ocular parameters [the differences between eyes in axial length (AL),

The MAGIC Cohort Study: Genetic Associations of Anisometropia in Chinese Population.

Myopia, particularly high myopia (HM), represents a critical global public health issue due to its strong association with irreversible visual impairment. While past genetic studies have identified numerous myopia-associated loci, they explain only a modest proportion of its heritability. To address this gap, we established the Myopia Associated Genetics and Intervention Consortium (MAGIC) cohort, the first large-scale whole-exome sequencing (WES) cohort dedicated to the Chinese myopia population, which has already unveiled HM-associated genes, novel rare-variant mechanisms, and open-access an

Clinical Characteristics of Intermittent Exotropia in Children with Myopia and Myopic Anisometropia.

OBJECTIVE: Previous studies have yielded contradictory conclusions on the relationship between intermittent exotropia (IXT) and the magnitude of myopia, especially in children. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics of IXT in children with myopia and myopic anisometropia. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the clinical data of patients (4-15 years of age) with convergence insufficiency (CI)-IXT and basic IXT who underwent surgery between 2022 and 2023. All patients underwent cycloplegia before the examinations and surgery. The degree of strabismus was measured

Refractive factors affecting the persistence of anisometropia in preschool-aged children.

PURPOSE: Pediatric vision screening programs can detect children with amblyopic anisometropia. We aim to determine which refractive factors may be associated with the persistence of anisometropia in this population. METHODS: A cohort analysis included all children aged one to six years, evaluated for refractive status between 2012 and 2022 at the Maccabi Healthcare Services. Refractive data were collected at presentation and at a subsequent follow-up visit. Logistic regression models were used to analyze relationships between baseline refractive error and anisometropia at follow-up. RESULTS:

[A case of anisometropia following mild unilateral vitreous hemorrhage in a newborn].

A male premature infant was diagnosed with mild vitreous hemorrhage, which obscured the macula, in the left eye at 57 days after birth. The follow-up examinations at 4.5 years and 10 years of age revealed high myopia in the left eye, which resulted in anisometropia. Optical correction with glasses was prescribed. Greater clinical attention should be directed toward neonatal vitreous hemorrhage and its long-term visual functional prognosis.
