Background/Objectives: Aquatic therapy is widely used in pediatric rehabilitation because buoyancy and water resistance facilitate movement practice under reduced gravitational load. The Halliwick Method is a prominent approach; however, its effects on balance, motor function, and neuromuscular performance in children and young adults with disabilities have not been comprehensively synthesized. This systematic review summarized the effects of Halliwick aquatic therapy and aquatic exercise on balance, strength, and functional mobility in this population. Methods: This review followed Cochrane a

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, with 9.6 million cancer-related deaths in 2018. Cancer incidence has increased over time, and so has the prescription rate of chemotherapeutic drugs. These pharmaceuticals, known as antineoplastic agents, enter the aquatic environment via human excretion and wastewater. The objectives of the present critical review were to investigate the risk of antineoplastics to aquatic species and to summarize the current state of knowledge regarding their levels in the environment, because many antineoplastics are not adequately removed during wastewa

This pilot study investigates the effects of aquatic therapeutic exercise on lower-extremity range of motion, gait, balance, and functional mobility in children with juvenile arthritis. Eleven patients, aged 4-13, with lower-extremity joint involvement, diagnosed as functional class I-III, completed a 6-week program of aquatic exercise aimed at increasing lower-extremity range of motion and strength. Despite the small sample size and short duration of the study program, significant improvement was noted in external and internal hip rotation, bilaterally (p < 0.05). Improvement was noted in the

BACKGROUND: There is growing evidence that aquatic physiotherapy may be effective for people with Parkinson's Disease (PD) but most studies have investigated land based type exercises in the aquatic environment. Few studies have examined customised aquatic therapies such as the Halliwick concept which focuses on trunk rotation and core stabilisation.
OBJECTIVE: The primary aim was to determine the feasibility of a Halliwick style aquatic physiotherapy intervention for people with PD. The secondary aim was to compare the Halliwick intervention with traditional aquatic and land based physiother

Marine ecosystems are characterized by an immense biodiversity and represent a rich source of biological compounds with promising potential for the development of novel therapeutic drugs. This review describes the most promising marine-derived neuroprotective compounds with strong potential for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders. We focus specifically on the retina and brain-two key components of the central nervous system-as primary targets for therapeutic interventions against neurodegeneration. Alzheimer's disease and retinal degeneration diseases are used here as a representative

INTRODUCTION: The global dissemination of colistin resistance poses a critical challenge to antimicrobial therapy amid increasing multidrug resistance. The objective of this study was to characterize the epidemiology and transmission of colistin resistance mediated by the mcr-1 gene in multidrug-resistant (MDR) Enterobacteriaceae isolated from hospitalized patients with bloodstream infections and adjacent aquatic environments.
METHODOLOGY: A three-year study was conducted to collect MDR Enterobacteriaceae isolates from two distinct sources: blood samples and environmental water samples from f

BACKGROUND: Bilateral medial compartment knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is characterized by the gradual breakdown of joint structures, which frequently leads to chronic pain, reduced flexibility, and compromised physical function. Although exercise serves as the foundation of non-pharmacological care, there is still a lack of consensus regarding the ideal integration of different therapeutic interventions. Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) and aquatic therapy have independently demonstrated benefits in improving neuromuscular control and reducing joint loading.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and/or the need for oral anticoagulation (OAC) frequently coexist with stable chronic coronary syndrome (CCS). In this population, clinicians must carefully balance ischemic protection against bleeding risk. This review aims to synthesize available evidence and address whether antiplatelet therapy (APT) should be maintained on top of OAC in this specific subset.
RECENT FINDINGS: Recent trials have provided key evidence. AFIRE, EPIC-CAD, AQUATIC and ADAPT-AF-DES have all demonstrated that OAC monotherapy is not only non-inferior but also superior to

BACKGROUND: Chronic non-specific low back pain (CLBP) imposes a substantial healthcare burden. For CLBP, non-pharmacologic pain management within physical therapy/rehabilitation commonly relies on therapeutic exercise (exercise therapy). Aquatic interventions such as exercise and balneotherapy are widely prescribed to treat CLBP, but their comparative effectiveness against land-based exercise, and multi-model programs remain unclear. We performed a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to compare the effects of aquatic, land-based exercise, and multi-modal interventions on pain

: Bacterial infections following aquatic injuries occur commonly in fishermen and vacationers after freshwater and saltwater exposures. Internet search engines were queried with the key words to describe the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic and treatment strategies and outcomes of both the superficial and the deeper invasive infections caused by more common, newly emerging and unusual aquatic bacterial pathogens. Main findings included the following: (1) aquatic injuries often result in gram-negative polymicrobial infections with marine bacteria; (2) most marine bacteria are r

BACKGROUND: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is often accompanied by anxiety and depression, seriously affecting the prognosis of patients. Active non-pharmacological therapies are the mainstay of treatment, but the optimal choice is still contentious.
METHODS: We did a network meta-analysis(NMA) of RCTs and compared 7 community-based non-pharmacological interventions based on 29 studies. We searched Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) from the database inception to March 2022.
RESULTS: The NMA demonstra

Background Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries frequently induce symptomatic knee instability and functional decline among active individuals. This pathology extends beyond mechanical insufficiency, involving significant deficits in muscle force production, balance, and proprioception. Collectively, these neuromuscular disruptions impair joint stability and represent critical factors that can delay the recovery of full functional status. While conventional land-based rehabilitation remains the standard approach, aquatic rehabilitation has gained attention due to its ability to reduce joi

Lumefantrine is used to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by pure or mixed Plasmodium falciparum infections and as a prophylactic against recrudescence following artemether therapy. However, the pharmaceutical is released into the aquatic environment from industrial effluents, hospital discharges, and human excretion. This study assessed the effects of lumefantrine on the growth and physiological responses of the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and Raphidocelis subcapitata (formerly known as Selenastrum capricornutum and Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) and the aquatic macrophyte Lemna minor. The disposal of antibiotics in the aquatic environment favors the selection of bacteria exhibiting antibiotic resistance mechanisms. Quinolones are bactericidal antimicrobials extensively used in both human and animal medicine. Some of the quinolone-resistance mechanisms are encoded by different bacterial genes, whereas others are the result of mutations in the enzymes on which those antibiotics act. The worldwide occurrence of quinolone resistance genes in aquatic environments has been widely reported, particularly in areas impacted by urban discharges. The most commonly reported quinolone re
