Polysaccharides of Atractylodes Macrocephala Koidz effectively improve the EpCAM+/- genotype-related inflammatory bowel diseases via modulating gut microbiota.

The diminished EpCAM increases the susceptibility to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). PAMK (polysaccharides of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz) demonstrates the promotion for the intestinal health. To study the efficacy and mechanism of PAMK on mitigating IBD related to the downregulated EpCAM, it was administrated to the dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-treated both WT and EpCAM+/- mice. DSS caused more pronounced damage to the mucosal muscular layer in the EpCAM+/- mice, increased the activity of MAPKs and upregulated the MMPs and inflammatory cytokines, but downregulated the tight junction-rel

Protective effects of polysaccharides from Atractylodes macrocephalae Koidz. against dextran sulfate sodium induced intestinal mucosal injury on mice.

In the present research, the water-soluble polysaccharides (AMP) from Atractylodes macrocephalae Koidz. were isolated and prepared. The protective effects of AMP on intestinal mucosal barrier injury induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in mice were investigated. It was found that AMP treatment significantly alleviated the body weight decreases and shorten colon length, and ameliorated colonic damage induced by DSS. Importantly, AMP prevented the over-expression of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6, and decreased the infiltration of neutrophils in colon. Additionally, AMP could

Predicting the potential distribution of Atractylodes lancea in China under CMIP6 climate scenarios using an optimized MaxEnt model.

Atractylodes lancea is an important medicinal plant in China, and climate change may affect wild-resource conservation and cultivation planning. However, its current potential ecological suitability, future range dynamics, and relationship with traditional or reported producing regions remain insufficiently clarified under optimized species distribution modelling and CMIP6 climate scenarios. We used 220 occurrence records and environmental variables related to climate, topography, vegetation, and soil to predict the current and future potential suitable habitats of A. lancea in China with an o

Atractylodes macrocephala polysaccharide orchestrates anti-tumor immunity via a dual-network mechanism targeting the gut microbiota and spleen.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common global malignancy, and its advanced stage is closely linked to a gut microbiota-metabolism-immunity vicious cycle requiring early intervention. In this study, anti-CRC effects of PAMK in CT26 tumor-bearing mice were explored. Results showed that PAMK significantly inhibited tumor growth and improved the quality of life of tumor-bearing mice by enhancing antitumor immunity, including increased NK cell infiltration and NKG2D expression, elevated CD4⁺:CD8⁺ ratios, and higher serum IFN-γ levels. However, therapeutic effects of PAMK were not observed in antibioti

Atractylodes macrocephala-derived extracellular vesicles-like particles enhance the recovery of ulcerative colitis by remodeling intestinal microecological balance.

Current treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) remains challenging, with the mainstay of therapy being 5-aminosalicylic acid-based drugs, which have limited and inconsistent results. Atractylodes macrocephala (AM) is a traditional Chinese medicine commonly used in the clinical treatment of various inflammatory diseases. Herein, we demonstrate that AM-derived extracellular vesicle-like particles (AMEVLP) can effectively modulate the gut microbiota, thereby significantly improving the treatment efficiency of UC. This is achieved by enhancing the alpha diversity of the gut microbiota and re-establi

Protective effect of the new prepared Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz polysaccharide on fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome in laying hens.

Fatty liver hemorrhage syndrome (FLHS) is the most common noninfectious cause of death in backyard chickens worldwide, which can cause a sudden drop in egg production in the affected flocks and cause huge losses to the laying hens breeding industry. In this study, we prepared polysaccharide from Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz (PAMK) by one-step alcohol precipitation. The structural analysis found that PAMK with a molecular weight of 2.816 × 103 Da was composed of glucose and mannose, in a molar ratio of 0.582 to 0.418. Furthermore, we investigated the hepatoprotective effects of PAMK on high-
