Sedentary Behavior and Light-Intensity Physical Activity During Pregnancy and Cardiovascular Health: A Science Advisory From the American Heart Association.

The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans supports sitting less and moving more. Growing evidence suggests that a waking behavior profile with less sedentary behavior and more light-intensity physical activity is associated with more favorable cardiovascular health. Remarkably, little is known about how these behaviors relate to cardiovascular health during pregnancy. The purpose of this American Heart Association science advisory is to describe the existing evidence on device-measured sedentary behavior and light-intensity physical activity in relation to cardiovascular health during pre

A Systematic Review of New Approaches to Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening Framed in the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, and Behavior Model of Implementation Science.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are 2 of the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) worldwide. Rising chlamydia and gonorrhea rates along with increased closing of STI clinics has led many to seek STI testing in clinical settings such as urgent cares and walk-in clinics. However, with competing priorities, providing effective and efficient STI care can be difficult in these settings. This has left a growing need for the implementation of novel STI screening programs in other clinical settings. This review summarizes previous studies that have evaluated the clinical implementation

Self-Reported Rapid Eye Movement Sleep Behavior Disturbance and Its Associated Factors among Medicine and Health Science Students at the University of Gondar.

INTRODUCTION: Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is characterized by dream-enacting behavior (shouting, punching, and falling out of bed) related to unpleasant dreams and loss of normal rapid eye movement (REM) sleep muscle atonia. Rapid eye movement sleep enhances learning and memory by regulating neuronal synapses, and if it is undesirable, it can lead to cognitive impairment and poor academic performance and may end up with death. To the best of our searching databases, there is no such study conducted in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study is aimed at determining self-reported sy

Using Network Science to Examine Temporal Relationships between 24-Hour Movement Behaviors and Depression During the Transition to College: Protocol for a Prospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: The transition to college coincides with the peak age of onset for depression and is marked by substantial changes in 24-hour movement behaviors (sleep, sedentary behavior, physical activity). Although these behaviors are modifiable and increasingly implicated in depression risk, most studies rely on cross-sectional, self-reported data and aggregate symptom scores, limiting insight into temporal dynamics and symptom-level heterogeneity. Integrating compositional modeling of 24-hour time use data with network approaches to psychopathology may clarify when and how specific behavioral

Factors associated with device-based measured physical activity and sedentary behavior in a cross-sectional citizen science study of adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Insufficient physical activity (PA) and extensive sedentary behavior (SB) in adolescents has been related to adverse outcomes related to physical fitness, body weight as well as social and psychological health indicators. Furthermore, these behaviors tend to track from adolescence to adulthood, thereby affecting adult chronic disease risk. The knowledge of factors associated with PA and SB is needed particularly in adolescents, in order to plan public health strategies aiming at increasing PA and reducing SB. The aim of this Citizen Science project (conducted between February 2020

Barriers inhibiting effective detection and management of postpartum hemorrhage during facility-based births in Madagascar: findings from a qualitative study using a behavioral science lens.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal mortality in low-income countries, and is the most common direct cause of maternal deaths in Madagascar. Studies in Madagascar and other low-income countries observe low provider adherence to recommended practices for PPH prevention and treatment. Our study addresses gaps in the literature by applying a behavioral science lens to identify barriers inhibiting facility-based providers' consistent following of PPH best practices in Madagascar. METHODS: In June 2019, we undertook a cross-sectional qualitative research study

Does informational social media use negatively impact preventive behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic? The moderating roles of citizens' scientific knowledge and trust in science.

This study is first to examine the link between using social media as a primary COVID-19 information source and preventive behavior, while examining moderating effects. Using the O-S-R-O-R model and panel survey data from Germany (N = 776), it finds a negative direct effect of informational social media use on preventive behavior, and a negative indirect effect through conspiracy beliefs. However, the negative impact is less pronounced in individuals with high knowledge and trust in science. These findings underscore the importance of accurate, comprehensive social media communication, especia

Psychological mechanisms of behavioral change: Trajectories of self-efficacy and motivation among Tunisian health science students using a mobile application to quit smoking - A prospective observational study.

Tobacco use remains a leading preventable cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with high prevalence among Tunisian health sciences students. Psychological determinants such as motivation and self-efficacy are key predictors of smoking cessation success. Mobile health (mHealth) interventions offer scalable support, yet their influence on these psychological mechanisms is underexplored in specific contexts. This study aimed to evaluate changes in motivation and self-efficacy to quit smoking among health sciences students using a culturally adapted mobile app in Tunisian dialect, and to ex
