BACKGROUND: Dolichandrone platycalyx, commonly known as Nile trumpet tree, is believed to have originated in East Africa. However, this and the variants of this tree are found in Europe, Asia, and America (California and Florida). The tree mostly grows in tropical climates, but temperate species are also found. This study was designed to evaluate the allergenicity of D. platycalyx, one of the most common entomophilous avenue trees in Karnataka state, and to determine the pollen production of D. platycalyx.
METHODS: All of the patients with allergic rhinitis and asthma attending a tertiary car

The aims of this study were to clarify whether the ratio of S- to R-flecainide (S/R ratio) in the serum flecainide concentration was associated with the stereoselectivity of flecainide metabolism, and to investigate the effects of the cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 (CYP2D6) genotype and CYP2D6 inhibitor on the serum flecainide S/R ratio. In vitro studies using human liver microsomes and cDNA-expressed CYP isoforms suggested that variability in the serum flecainide S/R ratio was associated with the stereoselectivity of CYP2D6-mediated flecainide metabolism. We examined the serum flecainide S/R ratio

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: The plants selected for this study, Stereospermum colais and Stereospermum suaveolens are named as Patala in Ayurvedic medicine. Patala is a component of the reputed dasamula (ten roots) used for various imperative Ayurvedic formulations. The roots of Patala have rich traditional value especially in the treatment of inflammation and rheumatism. Nevertheless no methodical study has been consummated in these plants. Consequently, an endeavor to ascertain the anti-arthritic potential of the two plants was made besides to impart the fact with regards to the supreme

The use of plant to meet health-care needs has greatly increased worldwide in the recent times. The search for new plant-derived bioactive agents that can be explored for the treatment of drug-resistant malaria infection is urgently needed. Thus, we evaluated the antimalarial activity of three medicinal plants used in Nigerian folklore for the treatment of malaria infection. A modified Peter's 4-day suppressive test was used to evaluate the antimalarial activity of the plant extracts in a mouse model of chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium berghei ANKA strain. Animals were treated with 250, 500, o

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Seventeen plants used in Vietnamese traditional medicine for the treatment of inflammatory disorders were screened for NF-κB inhibitory activity. Oroxylum indicum, which exhibited activity, was investigated in detail.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty plant extracts from 17 species were prepared by maceration using dichloromethane and methanol and were tested (10µg/mL) to evaluate their ability to inhibit NF-κB activation using TNF-α-stimulated HEK-293 cells stably transfected with a NF-κB-driven luciferase reporter. The active extract of Oroxylum indicum was subseq

This manuscript investigates the phytochemical composition and biological potential of Chrozophora tinctoria extracts obtained with solvents of different polarities (ethyl acetate, ethanol, 70 % ethanol, and water). Comprehensive in vitro analyses revealed that ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts had the highest levels of phenolic and flavonoid compounds, which corresponded with strong antioxidant activity and significant inhibitory effects on key enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and tyrosinase. Cytotoxicity tests on several human cell lines

The Himalayan region is recognized as one of the world's major biodiversity hotspots due to its remarkable altitudinal variation, high species richness, and exceptional endemism. Despite its ecological significance, the endemic flora of the western Himalayas remains insufficiently explored at the molecular level. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of multiple nuclear and chloroplast DNA barcode loci (ITS2, rbcL, trnH-psbA, trnA, trnV, rpoB, ycf3, and rbcLa) for the identification and phylogenetic assessment of 32 endemic and threatened plant species representing 31 genera and 24 fami

Arrabidaea brachypoda is a native shrub of the Brazilian Cerrado widely used in the folk medicine for treatment of renal diseases and articular pains. This study aimed to, first, evaluate the antimicrobial activity of both extracts and isolated molecules Brachydins BR-A and BR-B obtained from the flowers of A. brachypoda against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherchia coli and Candida albicans species. A second objective was to investigate if these natural products were able to potentiate the Norfloxacin activity against the strain Staphylococcus aureus SA1199-B that overexpress the norA gene encodi

The antidepressant activity of Spathodea campanulata flowers was evaluated in mice and in silico. When tested at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, the methanol extract of S. campanulata (MESC) showed dose-dependent antidepressant activity in the force swim test (FST), tail suspension test (TST), lithium chloride-induced twitches test and the open field test. In FST and TST, animals treated with MESC demonstrated a significant decrease in the immobility period compared to the control group. The lithium chloride-induced head twitches were significantly reduced following administration of MESC. The lat

BACKGROUND: Alcohol-induced liver injury (ALI) poses a significant threat to global human health. The Chinese Yi medicine Liangtoumao (LTM), which originated from the whole plant of Incarvillea arguta Royle (Royle), has been widely used by the Yi ethnic group to prevent and treat ALI and other liver diseases. However, its effectiveness and mechanisms are still under-researched.
PURPOSE: The objective of our research is to investigate the chemical composition of LTM aqueous extract, evaluate its potential therapeutic intervention effect on ALI, and explore its mechanisms in rat models.

Arrabidaea brachypoda is a plant commonly used for the treatment of kidney stones, arthritis and pain in traditional Brazilian medicine. Different in vitro and in vivo activities, ranging from antinociceptive to anti-Trypanosoma cruzi, have been reported for the dichloromethane root extract of Arrabidaea brachypoda (DCMAB) and isolated compounds. This work aimed to assess the in vitro anti-inflammatory activity in arthritic synoviocytes of the DCMAB, the hydroethanolic extract (HEAB) and three dimeric flavonoids isolated from the DCMAB. These compounds, brachydin A (1), B (2) and C (3), were i
