Resisting Trans Medicalization: Body Satisfaction and Social Contextual Factors as Predictors of Sexual Experiences among Trans Feminine and Nonbinary Individuals.

Past research has constructed a medicalized model of trans women's sexuality, where trans women are believed to be hyposexual and distressed by their bodies pre-transition, and are cured of their sexual dysfunction as a result of gender affirmative medical procedures. The current study engaged a community sample (N = 169) of trans feminine and nonbinary individuals assigned male at birth (TFNB) to investigate predictors of sexual experiences after addressing methodological biases of prior studies, including body satisfaction (using a modified Body Image Scale) and social contextual factors. Endoscopic Axillary Approach Improves Patient Satisfaction of Gynecomastia Subcutaneous Mastectomy: A Cross-Sectional Study Using the BODY-Q Chest Module.

BACKGROUND: Gynecomastia is a common condition that refers to the benign enlargement of male breasts. Several minimally invasive techniques were invented to avoid visible scars in the chest area, but have limited effects on the dense fibroglandular breast tissue, and open excision remains the mainstay of treatment. Endoscopic subcutaneous mastectomy has the superiority of visualization, facilitating accurate dissection and hemostasis, also enabling inconspicuous scars. This study was designed to evaluate the patient-reported outcomes of the endoscopic axillary approach in treating gynecomastia

Assigned-Female-at-Birth Trans Masculine and Non-Binary Individuals Differ in Their Body Satisfaction and Desire for Gender Affirming Treatments.

Many non-binary individuals physically affirm their gender, but the binary/non-binary component of gender identity is rarely reported, and when it is, assigned-male- and assigned-female-at-birth individuals are often grouped together. We compared the experience of assigned-female-at-birth trans masculine and non-binary individuals via an anonymous online survey and found that patterns of overall body satisfaction and strength of intention to modify the body support the idea that the lower engagement in physical affirmation by non-binary individuals reflects less need to undergo body modificati

Predicting Intentions to Breastfeed for Three Months, Six Months, and One Year Using the Theory of Planned Behavior and Body Satisfaction.

Breastfeeding is one of the top maternal priorities for many organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Focusing on the goals of Healthy People 2020, as well as the recommendations of other organizations, this paper investigates the impacts on women's intentions to breastfeed newborns for 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. This research used the theory of planned behavior (TPB) as a model to predict intentions for each duration of time. Body satisfaction was included as a moderating variable giv

Body satisfaction, eating disorders and suicide ideation in an Internet sample of self-harmers reporting and not reporting childhood sexual abuse.

This study examined differences between self-harmers who had and who had not been sexually abused in childhood with regards to other risk factors and associated behaviours commonly identified in the research literature as being related to self-harm. Participants (N = 113, mean age = 19.92 years) were recruited via self-harm Internet discussion groups and message boards, and completed a web questionnaire assessing measures of body satisfaction, eating disorders, childhood trauma and suicide ideation. Self-harmers who reported a history of childhood sexual abuse scored higher on measures of body

Self-Esteem and Body Satisfaction After Radical Orchiectomy With or Without Testicular Prosthesis: A Retrospective Study at a Mexican Tertiary Center.

Radical orchiectomy remains the standard treatment for localized testicular cancer. However, the resulting anatomical loss may negatively affect body image and self-esteem, especially in young men. The use of testicular prostheses has been proposed as a reconstructive option to mitigate these psychosocial effects, though evidence on its impact on global self-esteem remains limited, particularly in Latin American populations.  Methods: We conducted a retrospective, analytical study among adult patients with non-metastatic testicular cancer who underwent radical orchiectomy at a tertiary public

Association of Weight Perception, Body Satisfaction, and Weight Loss Intention With Patterns of Health Risk Behaviors in Adolescents With Overweight and Obesity.

Obesity is a public health issue and childhood is a critical window in which to establish healthy eating patterns and modify risk factors for overweight. This study aims to verify the association of weight perception, body satisfaction, and weight loss intention with patterns of health risk behaviors in adolescents with overweight and obesity. We analyzed health risk behavior from a school-based national survey conducted in 2015 in Brazil (n = 2,703 students with overweight or obesity, aged 13-17 years). We performed latent class analysis of alcohol consumption, tobacco use, physical activity,

When a partner objectifies other women: Associations with women's body image, self-esteem, and relationship satisfaction over an eight-month period.

BackgroundResearch indicates that sexual objectification (i.e., treating a person as an object and reducing them to their physical appearance or body parts) within romantic relationships is linked to adverse outcomes such as lower self-esteem and relationship satisfaction. However, no prior research has examined women's perceptions of their romantic partner's sexually objectifying behaviors toward other women, nor how these perceptions relate to their own psychological and relational outcomes over time.ObjectivesThe present study extends the sexual objectification literature by testing a cross

Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms, Burn-Out, and Compassion Satisfaction Among Body Handlers: The Mediating Role of Sense of Coherence and Spirituality at Workplace.

This study assessed posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS), burn-out (BO), and compassion satisfaction (CS) among Israeli body handlers. We aimed to explore differences between two groups of Orthodox Jewish male volunteers: the "ZAKA" body handlers (ZAs: n = 102), and a comparison group of charity workers (CWs: n = 101). Furthermore, we assessed the contribution of two potential resilience buffers-sense of coherence (SOC) and spirituality at the workplace (SAW)-to PTSS, BO, and CS among these volunteers via self-report measures. Surprisingly, results show that ZAs reported significantly lower le
