Red Sea Opisthobranchia 5: new species and new records of chromodorids from the Red Sea (Heterobranchia, Nudibranchia, Chromodorididae).

This is the fifth publication describing species of sea slug heterobranchs, originally based on collections from the Red Sea by the author on four expeditions carried out in 1983 and 1990, with the addition of specimens subsequently collected by underwater photographers who were stimulated by the book "Sea Slugs of the Red Sea". So much material has been amassed that only the new species and new Red Sea records of chromodorids are described in this paper, with an appendix listing specimens of previously recorded species. Three new species are described in detail and illustrated, belonging to t

The relationship between intimate partner violence reported at the first antenatal booking visit and obstetric and perinatal outcomes in an ethnically diverse group of Australian pregnant women: a population-based study over 10 years.

OBJECTIVES: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global health issue affecting mainly women and is known to escalate during pregnancy and impact negatively on obstetric and perinatal outcomes. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of IPV in a pregnant multicultural population and to determine the relationship between IPV reported at booking interview and maternal and perinatal outcomes. DESIGN: This is a retrospective population-based data study. We analysed routinely collected data (2006-2016) from the ObstetriX system on a cohort of pregnant women. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: 3

[Centenary of the publication of the monograph by Jenô Hillebrand entitled "New data on the morphology of human teeth"].

The dental morphological monograph by the anthropologist Jenô Hillebrand was published one hundred years ago. The book gave statistical data on 89 pages in eight chapters from the tooth collection of 4000 skulls and 2000 mandibles, as well as of 60 skulls of children. The chapters are about: onto- and phylogenesis of teeth, the size of teeth, crown-morphology, the roots of teeth, supernumerary teeth, absence of teeth, gaps (diasthema, trema), enamel hypoplasy and caries. Hillebrand described some new characteristics, too. The main representatives of Hungarian dental paleopathology and their wo

Waiting objects: letters as containers of time and care.

In this epistolary paper, we draw on the work of an interdisciplinary, psychosocial study of the relationship between time and care, Waiting Times, to explore the significance of a book of letters as a waiting object. Words in Pain, a collection of letters by Olga Jacoby (1874-1913) to her doctor and family written in the shadow of her early death, was published posthumously in 1919 as the nation emerged from World War I and the Great Flu Pandemic; while a new edition was published in 2019 just before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the relationship between waiting, care, vulnerability and interd

American Civil War plant medicines inhibit growth, biofilm formation, and quorum sensing by multidrug-resistant bacteria.

A shortage of conventional medicine during the American Civil War (1861-1865) spurred Confederate physicians to use preparations of native plants as medicines. In 1863, botanist Francis Porcher compiled a book of medicinal plants native to the southern United States, including plants used in Native American traditional medicine. In this study, we consulted Porcher's book and collected samples from three species that were indicated for the formulation of antiseptics: Liriodendron tulipifera, Aralia spinosa, and Quercus alba. Extracts of these species were tested for the ability to inhibit growt

Antenatal care, identification of suboptimal fetal growth and risk of late stillbirth: findings from the Auckland Stillbirth Study.

INTRODUCTION: Stillbirth remains an important public health problem in Australia and New Zealand. The role that antenatal care plays in the prevention of stillbirth in high-income countries is unclear. METHODS: Cases were women with a singleton, late stillbirth without congenital abnormality, booked to deliver in the Auckland region and born between July 2006 and June 2009. Two controls with ongoing pregnancies were randomly selected at the same gestation at which the stillbirth occurred. Data were collected through interview-administered questionnaires and from antenatal records. RESULTS: O

Open-book pelvic fractures with perineal open wounds: a significant morbid combination.

Open-book pelvic fractures (OBPF) with concomitant intra-abdominal injuries carry a high morbidity and mortality; the significance of associated perineal open wound (OBPF-POW) has not been defined. We hypothesize that the presence of perineal open wounds increases morbidity, mortality, and concomitant use of hospital resources. Patients diagnosed with OBPF over a 5-year period at a Level I trauma center were identified by trauma registry review, and were retrospectively reviewed under an Institutional Review Board-approved protocol. Patients with OBPF without a perineal open wound were compare

Detection of fungal contamination on museum books stored under controlled environmental conditions: A discrepancy between culture-based and metagenomic analysis approaches.

Mold contamination in library and museum collections poses risks to both cultural heritage and human health. This study examined fungal flora on books stored under controlled environmental conditions (temperature <20 °C, relative humidity <50%) in The University Museum, The University of Tokyo. Both culture-dependent methods and DNA-based metabarcoding targeting the internal transcribed spacer 2 region were used. DNA analysis revealed that Aspergillus halophilicus accounted for over 90% of the sequences from six books. In contrast, culture-based methods using standard media (e.g., PDA, DG18, M

The Road to Nowhere: Being Rooted in a Region Does Little to Predict Support for Populist Parties or Opposition to Migration and Social Change.

In his influential book The road to somewhere David Goodhart claims that a split between a majority of people who are rooted in particular places or groups (the "Somewheres") and a minority of people who are or can be at home anywhere in the world (the "Anywheres") is at the heart of many contemporary political conflicts. According to him, the Anywheres dominate public discourse and political decisions, while the preferences of the Somewheres are neglected. Goodhart's arguments have been widely cited but rarely systematically tested. We conduct such a test for the following three central claim

Rheumatoid arthritis in temporo-mandibular joint: A review.

This article summarizes the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In particular, TMJ-RAs are collected in a short summary by examining every aspect of RA; the treatment of TMJ-RA is also briefly mentioned. TMJ-RA is usually characterized by bilateral pain, tenderness and swelling, and limitation of jaw movements. Due to these symptoms, patients may experience limitations in their daily activities, such as eating, speaking, and swallowing. MEDLINE and Scopus databases were searched electronically using the terms "temporomandibular joint" and "rheumatoid arthritis." The electr

[Auditory hallucinations. Nomenclature and classification].

BACKGROUND: We are rapidly increasing our knowledge about the correlates of auditory hallucinations. If we are to understand and integrate this new knowledge it is essential that the nomenclature for this special area is clear and unambiguous. AIM: To review and to re-evaluate the concept of auditory hallucinations belonging to classical psychiatry. METHOD: Relevant data were collected from books, PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library. RESULTS: On the basis of our findings we present different classifications for auditory hallucinations. CONCLUSIONS: Our review emphasises the need for a

Measurement of volatile organic compounds emitted in libraries and archives: an inferential indicator of paper decay?

BACKGROUND: A sampling campaign of indoor air was conducted to assess the typical concentration of indoor air pollutants in 8 National Libraries and Archives across the U.K. and Ireland. At each site, two locations were chosen that contained various objects in the collection (paper, parchment, microfilm, photographic material etc.) and one location was chosen to act as a sampling reference location (placed in a corridor or entrance hallway). RESULTS: Of the locations surveyed, no measurable levels of sulfur dioxide were detected and low formaldehyde vapour (< 18 μg m-3) was measured throughou

Factors associated with HPV vaccine hesitancy among college students: A cross-sectional survey based on 3Cs and structural equation model in China.

Despite the high effectiveness of HPV vaccines in preventing infection, vaccine hesitancy remains a concern, particularly in China. This study aimed to explore college students' attitudes toward HPV vaccination and identify associated factors. Data was collected through a cross-sectional survey using self-administered questionnaires in four cities from May to June 2022. Chi-square tests and logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors. Additionally, an integrated structural equation model (SEM) based on the 3Cs (confidence, convenience, complacency) was developed to understa

Who is accessing community lateral flow device testing and why? Characteristics and motivations of individuals participating in COVID-19 community testing in two English local authority areas.

BACKGROUND: Antigen testing using lateral flow devices (LFDs) plays an important role in the management of the novel coronavirus pandemic of 2019 (COVID-19) by rapidly identifying individuals who are asymptomatically carrying high levels of the virus. By January 2021, LFD community testing sites were set up across English local authority areas to support the management and containment of regional COVID-19 cases, initially targeting essential workers unable to work from home during the national lockdown. This study aimed to examine the characteristics and motivations of individuals accessing co
