Pasteurella canis-associated bronchopneumonia in a 17-week-old Rottweiler and literature review.

A 17-wk-old male Rottweiler puppy was found dead 2 d after being presented with coughing and lethargy. Gross and histopathologic findings were consistent with fibrinosuppurative bronchopneumonia, and Pasteurella canis was isolated on culture of the lung. Mycoplasma cynos was identified by PCR testing of the lung in this case and may have contributed to the development of the pneumonia. P. canis is not a commonly recognized cause of canine bronchopneumonia but likely has a role in the canine respiratory disease complex. P canis is a known cause of pneumonia in other species with similar histolo

Bronchopneumonia Radiating Across All Pulmonary Lobes From the Hilum Caused by Human Metapneumovirus.

This human metapneumovirus pneumonia case, mimicking bacterial pneumonia, exhibited distinct features, including contact with a cold patient and CT findings of multilobar airway-centric opacities with bronchial wall thickening. Even if point-of-care viral testing becomes widely available, recognising cases that warrant such tests remains crucial for improving community-acquired pneumonia management.

Antibiotic therapy of postoperative bronchopneumonia in patients after lung resections - single-site experience.

INTRODUCTION: Infectious complications after lung surgery are the most important factor that affects mortality and morbidity, prolongs hospital stays and increases financial costs. According to various sources, 30-day mortality after lung resections reaches 123%. Infectious complications account for 2075% of overall mortality. The infections most often present as postoperative pneumonia (POP), and their treatment is based on empirical and targeted antibiotic therapy. Any time lag in initiating effective antibiotic therapy significantly increases morbidity and mortality. Postoperative pneumonia

Beta-sarcoglycan-deficient muscular dystrophy presenting as chronic bronchopneumonia in a young cat.

CASE SUMMARY: A 5-month-old cat was evaluated for a 3 week history of cough, nasal discharge, decreased appetite and weight loss. Musculoskeletal examination was normal and serum creatine kinase (CK) activity was within the reference interval. The cat was treated during the next 10 months for chronic, persistent pneumonia. Weakness then became apparent, the cat developed dysphagia and was euthanized. Post-mortem evaluation revealed chronic aspiration pneumonia and muscular dystrophy associated with beta (β)-sarcoglycan deficiency. RELEVANCE AND NOVEL INFORMATION: This is the first report of a

Remimazolam attenuates inflammation in bronchopneumonia through the inhibition of NLRP3 activity by PDPK1 ubiquitination.

Bronchopneumonia is the most common pneumonia in childhood. Therefore, we tested the effects of Remimazolam presented Bronchopneumonia and its possible mechanisms. Phillygenin increased survival rate, reduced W/D ratio, and lung injury score, and inhibited IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and INF-γ levels in mice model of bronchopneumonia. Remimazolam induced PDPK1 and p-AKT protein expressions, and suppressed NLRP3 protein expression in lung tissue of mice model. In vitro model, Remimazolam also induced PDPK1 and p-AKT protein expressions, and suppressed NLRP3 protein expression. Remimazolam also inhibite

Fatal Bronchopneumonia and Tracheitis in a Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) Caused by Serratia proteamaculans.

A free-ranging subadult, male green turtle (Chelonia mydas) presented with radiographic evidence of pneumonia and died acutely. On necropsy, the trachea and bronchi were plugged by diphtheritic membranes, comprised of fibrin, necrotic debris, and colonies of bacilli, identified as Serratia proteamaculans. S. proteamaculans, typically considered an opportunistic plant pathogen, has rarely been described as causing disease in animals. This is the first report of S. proteamaculans causing severe necrotizing tracheitis and bronchopneumonia in a reptile.

Induction of acute bronchopneumonia in mice by intrabronchial inoculation of Pasteurella haemolytica serotype 1.

Dose dependent pulmonary lesions of acute bronchopneumonia were induced in male, outbred Swiss Webster mice by intrabronchial inoculation of Pasteurella haemolytica. Five exponential dilutions ranging from 5 x 10(4) to 5 x 10(8) colony forming units per mL (CFU/mL) of Pasteurella haemolytica serotype 1 were inoculated into five groups of mice. Mice were killed by cervical dislocation 24 hours postinoculation. Pulmonary lesions occurred in mice of all five groups, however, 5 x 10(7) CFU/mL was the minimal dose which consistently produced lesions. Focal parenchymal necrosis, suppurative bronchio

Nontraumatic Fat Embolism and Fat Embolism Syndrome in Patients with Purulent Bacterial Bronchopneumonia.

Background: Fat embolism frequently occurs as a result of trauma, such as long bone fractures and orthopedic surgeries, as well as in certain non-traumatic conditions. The formation can be attributed to mechanical or biochemical processes. According to Hullman's biochemical hypothesis, elevated C-reactive protein levels facilitate the precipitation of very-low-density lipoproteins and chylomicrons, forming fat globules that may result in fat embolism. Based on the abovementioned hypothesis, this study aims to detect fat embolism in autopsy patients (postmortem) suffering from bronchopneumonia

Severe bronchiectasis resulting from chronic bacterial bronchitis and bronchopneumonia in a jungle cat.

Bronchiectasis is irreversible bronchial dilation that can be congenital or acquired secondary to chronic airway obstruction. Feline bronchiectasis is rare and, to our knowledge, has not been reported previously in a non-domestic felid. An ~10-y-old female jungle cat (Felis chaus) was presented for evaluation of an abdominal mass and suspected pulmonary metastasis. The animal died during exploratory laparotomy and was submitted for postmortem examination. Gross examination revealed consolidation of the left caudal lung lobe and hila of the cranial lung lobes. Elsewhere in the lungs were severa

5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase-2 in porcine parasitic bronchopneumonia: immunohistochemical and biochemical investigations.

Eicosanoids are products of arachidonic acid metabolism and have numerous biological roles. The present study aimed to investigate the role of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX)- and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)- dependent enzymatic pathways in the pathogenesis of porcine parasitic bronchopneumonia caused by Metastrongylus spp. Pulmonary tissue samples from healthy control and parasitized pigs were processed for histopathological, immunohistochemical and biochemical investigations. In control animals, immunohistochemistry demonstrated that 5-LOX and COX-2 expression was almost exclusively limited to the bronc

From bronchopneumonia to sepsis: "An unexpected diagnosis of Legionnaires' disease" a rare case report.

Diagnosing fastidious organisms like Legionella pneumophila is difficult in peripheral laboratories due to the unavailability of specialized media such as BCYE agar and the delayed results of serological tests, which are mainly epidemiological. Rapid multiplex PCR platforms, such as the BioFire® Pneumonia Panel, enable timely detection of rare pathogens including L. pneumophila. A 45-year-old female with fever, chest pain, breathlessness, and productive cough was admitted with pneumonia and sepsis. BioFire testing of a mini-BAL sample confirmed L. pneumophila. Early molecular diagnosis ensures

Characterization of a Pasteurella multocida type a strain associated with a severe bronchopneumonia outbreak in gilts.

BACKGROUND: In pigs, Pasteurella multocida (P. multocida) serotypes A, B and D are causative agents of pneumonia, hemorrhagic septicemia and progressive rhinitis atrophicans, respectively. In the case of bronchopneumonia in pigs, P. multocida is generally regarded as an opportunistic pathogen following predisposing infectious agents. This study was initiated by an outbreak of bronchopneumonia in gilts associated with high mortality during lactation. Objectives of this study were to characterize the P. multocida isolate and systemic humoral immunity in gilts against this pathogen. RESULTS: Bac

Splenic abscess as a potential initial manifestation of quiescent infective endocarditis in a patient with bronchopneumonia.

A 78-year-old woman presented to the acute medical unit with a productive cough, dyspnoea and decreased appetite of 4 days duration. Initial assessment supported a diagnosis of right-sided community-acquired pneumonia and she was started on antibiotics. In view of the clinical finding of splenomegaly, she had an ultrasound and, subsequently, a CT of the abdomen, which revealed a large splenic abscess. Pending cultures from a sample obtained from percutaneous drainage of the abscess, she was started on intravenous meropenem. The initial echocardiogram did not suggest any evidence of endocarditi

More conservative use of antimicrobials does not adversely affect treatment outcomes in foal bronchopneumonia.

BACKGROUND: The emergence of antimicrobial resistance raises concerns about using antibiotics in veterinary medicine, particularly in cases of bronchopneumonia in foals diagnosed early based on a screening programme. Many subclinical foals recover spontaneously, thus, interest in more restrictive antibiotic usage is increasing. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether initiating antimicrobial therapy at a later stage of bronchopneumonia decreases antimicrobial usage without compromising successful resolution of pathology in affected foals. METHODS: A total of 1200 warmblood foals born in 2020, 2022,
