Effect of buffalo seminal plasma heparin binding protein (HBP) on freezability and in vitro fertility of buffalo cauda spermatozoa.

The study was conducted to assess the effect of heparin binding seminal plasma proteins (HBP) on freezability and in vitro fertilizing ability of buffalo cauda epididymal spermatozoa. Spermatozoal motility, viability and acrosomal integrity at prefreeze and post-thaw stages were studied. The in vitro fertilizing ability of spermatozoa was assessed by the application of two tests, i.e. bovine cervical mucus penetration test (BCMPT) and hypo-osmotic sperm swelling test (HOST). HBP isolated from buffalo seminal plasma and maintained in the laboratory were used for the study. Twelve pairs of epidi

Bayesian estimates of genetic parameters of stayability traits in Murrah buffaloes.

The present study aimed to explore the stayability patterns and heritability estimates of stayability traits in Murrah buffaloes post their first calving. Data from 640 animals calved between 1997 and 2020, sourced from the Department of Livestock Production Management at Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Hisar, Haryana, India, were analyzed. Stayability, defined as the duration a buffalo remains in the herd after first calving, was assessed as a binary trait at specific post-calving time points. The threshold animal model, utilizing Bayesian inference through Gib

Long-term GreenFeed monitoring of enteric methane emissions in lactating buffaloes.

The GreenFeed (GF) system is widely regarded as the silver standard for measuring individual enteric methane (CH4) emissions; however, it has not previously been used in dairy buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis). This study aimed to perform long-term monitoring using the GF in lactating Mediterranean buffaloes to provide benchmark values for enteric CH4 and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and CH4 emission intensity, together with a characterization of CH4 emission patterns and animal-related factors. Additionally, seasonal variation in enteric CH4 emissions was evaluated. The study was conducted on a

Bovine thelaziasis: a re-emerging parasitic disease of cattle and buffaloes.

Thelaziasis, also known as thelaziosis, is a neglected vector-borne disease caused by parasitic nematodes from the genus Thelazia, belonging to the family Thelaziidae. The disease is transmitted biologically by various fly species, including the genus Musca (family Muscidae), Phortica (family Drosophilidae), and Fannia (family Fanniidae). These flies act as intermediate hosts (IHs) by depositing infective third-stage larvae (L3) during their tear feeding. Thelazia spp., such as T. gulosa, T. skrjabini, and T. rhodesi, inhabit the ocular regions of various animals, including humans and birds. A

Review: Development, adoption, and impact of assisted reproduction in domestic buffaloes.

The domestic buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), also known as water buffalo, comprises two sub-species the River buffalo (B. bubalis ssp. bubalis; 50 chromosomes) and the Swamp buffalo (ssp. carabanensis; 48 chromosomes). Domestic buffaloes are a globally significant livestock species. In South Asia, the River buffalo is a primary source of milk and meat and has a very important role in food security. The River buffalo also supports high-value, differentiated food production in Europe and the Americas. The Swamp buffalo is an important draft animal and a source of food in Southeast Asia and East Asia.

Hemato-biochemical and ultrasonographic evaluation of hepatic lipidosis in dairy buffaloes.

Around 60% dairy animals developed moderate to severe hepatic lipidosis at the time of parturition or during early lactation stage. Most of clinician suspect the hepatic lipidosis during above time window only. However, negative energy balance or feeding of high concentrate diet can lead to hepatic lipidosis at any phase of life. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential for diagnosis of hepatic lipidosis by means of hemato-biochemical parameters and ultrasonography of the liver at any stage of life. Here, ultrasonographic back fat thickness measurement was correlated with ult
