OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the healthcare profession worldwide. Frontline healthcare workers have experienced increased personal and occupational stress related to burnout, depression, and anxiety. The long-term effects of burnout, anxiety and mental suffering may lead to social isolation, substance abuse and behavioral changes. The goal of this study is to assess the self-reported levels of burnout and institutional support among dental students, residents, faculty and staff at the University of California, San Francisco in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mental well-being of critical healthcare professionals is a global public health issue, but its characteristics vary geographically. This study investigates the features of burnout, resilience, and coping strategies among critical healthcare professionals in Taiwan during the post-pandemic era. A survey incorporating the Maslach Burnout Inventory for Medical Professionals (MBI-MP) and the 14-item Resilience Scale (RS-14) was conducted between December 2023 and January 2024, targeting critical healthcare professionals at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Foundation. Among 254 participants, the o

This study examined the association between burnout, psychological distress, ward atmosphere, and working alliance (WA) among mental health workers treating patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD). Data were collected from 345 patients with SSD and 151 mental health workers across 98 residential facilities (RFs) as part of the DiAPAson project from October 2020 to October 2021. Participants were excluded from the study if they exhibited patient-operator matching errors, dropped out, or had many missing Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) scores. The final sample included 282 patients a

BACKGROUND: Work-related stress is a pervasive issue in the global occupational health landscape, ranking as the second-most common problem after low back pain. In Ethiopia, the healthcare sector is particularly affected by low staff motivation and stressed workers, which can significantly impact the functioning of health systems. However, when it comes to medical imaging professionals (MIPs), there is a lack of substantial evidence regarding the relationship between work-related stress and motivation. Therefore, this study aimed to address this gap by assessing the connection between work-rel

AIM(S): This study examined the association of moral injury and burnout with professional communication among operating room (OR) nurses in Southern Iran.
BACKGROUND: Effective professional communication is essential for surgical teamwork and patient safety. However, limited context-specific evidence is available on how moral injury and burnout are jointly associated with the quality of professional communication among OR nurses. Addressing this gap may help inform strategies to improve staff well-being, team functioning, and patient safety in high-stakes perioperative settings.

The challenging conditions faced by healthcare professionals (HCPs) during the pandemic have been extensively discussed in the literature, particularly concerning Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) and Burnout (BO). This study systematically compiled studies meeting the inclusion criteria and examining the relationship between STS and BO between 2019 and 2024 in the Web of Science and PubMed databases, conducting a correlational meta-analysis. While the PRISMA was adhered to in all stages of this manuscript, the Quality Assessment and Validity Tool for Correlational Studies was adhered to in eva

This systematic review aims to evaluate the prevalence of burnout, its associated determinants, and the coping strategies employed by palliative care professionals. Burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and diminished personal accomplishment, poses a significant threat to clinician well‑being and the quality of care delivered to patients with life‑limiting illnesses. A comprehensive search of PubMed and Embase identified eleven eligible studies published between 2021 and 2025. Following thematic synthesis, four overarching themes were identified: (1) work-related s

GOAL: Healthcare professionals (HCPs) working long shifts are prone to physical, emotional, and psychological stress leading to harmful effects on their mental health, an issue compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. Novel efforts such as virtual reality (VR)-based immersion have been explored to mitigate this problem in HCPs. However, the studies vary in their clinical settings, scales used for measuring outcomes related to mental health, sample size, and other relevant parameters. We conducted a systematic review (SR) to collate all available evidence on the feasibility and efficacy of VR-based

BACKGROUND: A current worrisome global trend is the emigration of health workers from resource-constrained areas especially Africa, with 1 in 4 doctors, and 1 in 20 nurses leaving for developed countries. This phenomenon has resulted in a shortfall of over 1.5 million health workers in the region. The factors contributing to the trend remain multifaceted, with provider burnout playing a crucial role in this phenomenon. Several studies have highlighted the burden of burn out among health workers in public facilities. However, there still exists a gap in research, particularly in the context of

BACKGROUND: Interest has been growing over the last few years in the working conditions of professionals who deal with clients with severe and chronic mental illnesses. In this study, the relationship between the affective climate, as measured by the construct of expressed emotion, and professionals' feelings of well-being and burnout was investigated. It was hypothesised that high expressed emotion (EE) (= a high amount of criticism, hostility or emotional overinvolvement) would be related to high burnout scores.
METHODS: Fifty-six professionals were interviewed about their schizophrenic cli

The ten-item Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ10) is a self-report instrument originally designed to identify referrals for professional diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Recent studies suggest that this instrument may also be tapping more generalised affective disorders. Working with this interpretation, this study examines the predictive power of the AQ10 to account for additional variance, after personal and personality factors have been taken into account, on the two scales of the Francis Burnout Inventory. Data provided by 220 Anglican clergy serving in Wales demonstrated that 8.6

BACKGROUND: Mobile health (mHealth) applications have the potential to improve mental well-being, reduce burnout, and manage stress among healthcare professionals. However, evidence on their effectiveness remains limited.
OBJECTIVE: This pilot study evaluated preliminary changes in mental well-being, perceived stress, and burnout associated with the use of CalmAnna among healthcare professionals.
METHODS: Using a single-group pre-post design, this study was conducted with 75 healthcare professionals who used the CalmAnna mobile application over a six-week period. The application includes evi

We analyzed a nationally representative sample of local public health professionals (LPHPs) from varying jurisdiction sizes across the United States who responded to the 2024 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey (PH WINS). Our goal was to explore experiences of burnout; perceived belonging within an agency; self-rated mental and emotional well-being; and intentions to leave an organization. Results showed that burnout was negatively associated with and perceived belonging within an agency was positively associated with ratings of mental and emotional health. Each of these 3 varia

INTRODUCTION: Burnout and mental distress are prevalent among healthcare professionals (HCPs), particularly in acute hospital settings. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a structured group art therapy intervention in reducing burnout and associated mental distress in HCPs.
METHODS: We conducted a multicentre, unblinded, randomised, parallel assignment, waitlist-controlled trial in four National Health Service secondary care hospitals in London, UK, between 4 May 2023 and 5 March 2024. A total of 129 HCPs with moderate-to-severe risk of burnout or levels of perceived stress were random

Background: In light of the concerning increase in burnout among healthcare professionals, it is essential to identify the specific factors that contribute to this phenomenon and can be addressed. This narrative review synthesizes evidence on the relationship between burnout and emotional intelligence (EI) among healthcare professionals, alongside additional factors that may influence both concepts. Methods: A structured search in OVID, PubMed, Medline, Scopus, and Web of Science (2000-2024) was conducted. The inclusion criteria were English language and peer-reviewed studies assessing both bu
