French Propolis Caffeic Acid Derivatives Protect Skeletal Muscle from Oxidative Damages.

Propolis produced by honeybees, Apis mellifera, has been valued since ancient times as a remedy for different ailments for its broad medicinal properties. This wide range of biological activities may arise from the production of distinct propolis types within the hive, each serving specific functions and containing unique molecular compositions. In this study, we investigated the effects of four propolis types-masonry, sealing, brood-protection, and intruder-neutralizing-on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative injury in human skeletal muscle cells. Among these, only brood-protection prop

Molecularly imprinted polymer-modified carbon dots as a fluorescent probe for caffeic acid detection.

Caffeic acid is a phenolic acid compound widely present in nature. While beneficial to human health within a certain concentration range, excessive intake may lead to a series of health issues, such as liver and kidney function impairment. Therefore, developing a method for the precise and rapid detection of caffeic acid concentration in serum is of great significance for guiding rational clinical medication, drug monitoring, and daily health management. This study prepared a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) fluorescent probe for caffeic acid detection. Blue fluorescent carbon dots (bCDs) w

Caffeic acid stimulates migration and invasion of human trophoblast HTR-8/SVneo cells.

The placenta is a transient organ essential for development of the fetus. Adequate invasion of trophoblast cells, specialized cells of the placenta, is of utmost importance for the establishment and maintenance of healthy pregnancy. Caffeic acid (CA), one of the most abundantly present hydroxycynamic acids in everyday human diet, exhibits various physiological effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities including an inhibitory effect on migration and invasion of different cancer cell types. There are not many studies on CA safety in human pregnancy. Therefore, the

mPEG-PCL modified Caffeic acid eye drops for endotoxin-induced uveitis treatment.

The modulation of inflammatory mediators has emerged as a critical therapeutic strategy in uveitis management. Current nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory therapies face limitations due to systemic side effects. Caffeic acid (CA), a natural polyphenol with anti-inflammatory properties, holds therapeutic potential but suffers from poor solubility and ocular irritation. This study aimed to develop mPEG-PCL-modified CA-loaded nanoparticles (NanoCA) as a non-invasive eye drop formulation to enhance CA's solubility, bioavailability, and efficacy in treating endotoxin-induced uveitis (EIU). NanoCA was sy

Icariin, Formononetin and Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester Inhibit Feline Calicivirus Replication In Vitro.

Cats infected with feline calicivirus (FCV) often display oral ulcers and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, which can lead to death in severe cases. Antiviral therapy is one of the most effective ways to control FCV infection. Natural compounds in Chinese herbal medicines and medicinal plants provide abundant resources for research on antiviral drugs. In this study, we found that icariin (ICA), formononetin (FMN) and caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CPAE) show low cytotoxicity towards F81 cells, that the three natural compounds have apparent antiviral effects on FCV in vitro, and that

Anti-Cancer Potential of a new Derivative of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester targeting the Centrosome.

Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (ALCL) is an aggressive T-cell lymphoma affecting children and young adults. About 30% of patients develop therapy resistance therefore new precision medicine drugs are highly warranted. Multiple rounds of structure-activity optimization of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester have resulted in CM14. CM14 causes upregulation of genes involved in oxidative stress response and downregulation of DNA replication genes leading to G2/M arrest and subsequent apoptosis induction. In accordance with this, an unbiased proteomics approach, confocal microscopy and molecular modeling
