Europium metal-organic frameworks/hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks as advanced stationary phase for sulfonamides analysis in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography.

Herein, europium metal-organic frameworks/hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (Eu-MOF/HOF) was synthesized via a solvothermal method, and a chemically bonded Eu-MOF/HOF-coated capillary column was fabricated. An open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) method based on Eu-MOF/HOF was developed. Characterization data demonstrated the effective formation of Eu-MOF/HOF and its firm bonding to the capillary interior surface. The effects of buffer concentration, pH, organic additive content, and applied voltage on the OT-CEC separation performance were systematically investigated using s

Porous layer open-tubular column with styrene and itaconic acid-copolymerized polymer as stationary phase for capillary electrochromatography-mass spectrometry.

Enhancing the specific surface area of stationary phase is important in chromatographic science, especially in open-tubular column in which the coating only exists on the inner surface. In this work, a porous layer open-tubular (PLOT) column with stationary phase of styrene and itaconic acid-copolymerized polymer was developed. Thermal-initiated polymerization method with strategies like controlling the ratio of reaction reagents to solvents and reaction time, confinement by the narrow inner diameter of capillary were used for preparing the stationary phase with uniform structure and relativel

Poly(carboxyethyl acrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) precursor monolith with bonded octadecyl ligands for use in reversed-phase capillary electrochromatography.

A carboxy precursor monolithic column, namely poly(carboxy ethyl acrylate-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) was first produced in a 100 μm i.d. fused-silica capillary and subsequently surface bonded with n-octadecyl (C18 ) ligands by a post-polymerization functionalization process with octadecylamine in the presence of N,N´-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide. The bonding of octadecyl ligands was achieved via an amide linkage between the carboxy functions of the precursor monolith and the amino group of the octadecylamine compound. The resulting C18 monolith exhibited a very low electroosmotic flow (EOF

Construction of a chiral metal-organic framework material with triazole amino acid ligands and its application in capillary electrochromatography for enantioseparation.

Chiral separation is vital in medicine because the two versions of a chiral drug can act differently, and one might cause toxicity. Therefore, efficient enantioseparation is essential in pharmaceutical quality control. In this study, we modified the amino site of l-lysine (L-Lys) with a triazole ring. The triazole amino acid ligand (NL) with self-assembly potential was designed independently. Then NLMOF was synthesized by coordination with Cu (II) under green ambient stirring conditions. The NLMOF (triazole-modified metal-organic framework) was uniformly integrated into a capillary column thro

Benzoic acid-modified monolithic column for separation of hydrophilic compounds by capillary electrochromatography with high content of water in mobile phase.

Hydrophilic column combined with mobile phase containing high content of water is a green method for the separation of polar compounds, but there are few related studies, and the separation efficiency and performance of existing columns still needs to be improved. In this work, a novel monolithic column for separation of hydrophilic compounds under both high water content and HILIC condition, was prepared by in-situ polymerization using 4-vinylbenzoic acid (VBA) and 1-(Acryloyloxy)-3-(methacryloyloxy)-2-propanol (AMAP) as functional monomers. The poly(VBA-co-AMAP) monolithic column showed good

Investigation of separation performance and mechanism of nanoscale hierarchical covalent organic frameworks with different surface areas in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted considerable attention as promising stationary phases in chromatographic separations, owing to their exceptional structural attributes. Nevertheless, a systematical methodology for correlating the specific surface area of COFs with their separation performance remains underdeveloped. In this study, four imine-based 1,3,5-tris(4-aminophenyl)benzene-2,5-dimethoxyterephthalaldehyde (TPB-DMTP) COFs exhibiting distinct specific surface area due to the differences in particle size, were employed as stationary phases in open-tubular capillary electroc

Chiral ligand-exchange capillary electrochromatography with thermo-responsive poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide) as coating for efficient separation of D,L-amino acids.

Herein, for addressing the issue in enantioseparation and being inspired by regulating hydrophobic/hydrophilic interactions in smart polymer through varying external environmental conditions, we demonstrated a chiral ligand exchange-capillary electrochromatography-UV (CLE-CEC-UV) system by introducing a thermo-responsive poly(styrene-maleic anhydride-N,N-dimethylacrylamide) (PSMDMA) to the coating for enantioseparation of dansylated D,L-amino acids (Dns-D,L-AAs). As metal ions-chiral ligands complexes in running buffer played the role of chiral selectors, the proposed CLE-CEC-UV system exhibit

Modelling lung permeability of pharmaceuticals: The effectiveness of biomimetic open tubular capillary electrochromatography and immobilised artificial membrane chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

In this study, the potential of mass spectrometry (MS) -compatible biomimetic chromatography (BMC) was explored to assess drug permeability across biological membranes, pioneering a comparison of its application to model pulmonary absorption. Two BMC techniques were evaluated i.e., immobilised artificial membrane liquid chromatography (IAM-LC) and open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) on fused silica capillaries coated with phospholipid vesicles. This application was validated on a dataset of 53 structurally diverse compounds whose pulmonary permeability is already evidenced in

Investigation of the novel mixed-mode stationary phase for capillary electrochromatography. I. Preparation and characterization of sulfonated naphthalimido-modified silyl silica gel.

A novel packing material, 3-(4-sulfo-1,8-naphthalimido)propyl-modified silyl silica gel (SNAIP), was prepared for the use as a stationary phase of capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The sulfonic acid groups on SNAIP stationary phase contributed to the generation of electroosmotic flow (EOF) at low pH and served as a strong cation-exchanger. In CEC with SNAIP, a mixed-mode separation was predicted, comprising hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions as well as electrophoretic migration process. In order to understand the retention mechanism on SNAIP, effects of buffer pH, concentration, a

Enantioseparation of propranolol, amlodipine and metoprolol by electrochromatography using an open tubular capillary modified with β-cyclodextrin and poly(glycidyl methacrylate) nanoparticles.

The inner wall of a capillary was coated with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) to form tentacle-type coating, and poly(glycidyl methacrylate) nanoparticles (PGMA NPs) were then immobilized on the film. Ethanediamine-β-cyclodextrin as chiral selector was covalently bonded into the PGMA NPs through the ring-open reaction. The materials were characterized by SEM, TEM and FT-IR. The modified column was applied to the enantioseparation of the racemates of propranolol, amlodipine and metoprolol. Postpolymerization modification of a hydroxy monolith precursor. Part II. Epoxy biphenyl modified poly (hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-pentaerythritol triacrylate) monolithic capillary columns for reversed-phase capillary electrochromatography based on π-π and hydrophobic interactions.

In this second part of the series of investigations involving the postpolymerization modification of a hydroxy monolith (OHM) capillary column, the surface hydroxyl groups were reacted with epoxy biphenyl thus yielding the so-called Biphenyl OHM capillary column. The modification involved the epoxy ring opening of the 2-biphenylyl glycidyl ether catalyzed by BF3 and its subsequent reaction with the hydroxyl groups on the OHM precursor surface. The Biphenyl OHM capillary column thus obtained exhibited the typical reversed phase behavior by primarily hydrophobic interactions vis-à-vis the homolo

Evaluation of new cellulose-based chiral stationary phases Sepapak-2 and Sepapak-4 for the enantiomeric separation of pesticides by nano liquid chromatography and capillary electrochromatography.

Two novel polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs), known as Sepapak-2 (cellulose tris(3-chloro-4-methylphenylcarbamate)) and Sepapak-4 (cellulose tris(4-chloro-3-methylphenylcarbamate)), have been evaluated in this work for the chiral separation of a group of 16 pesticides including herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. The optimization of the mobile phase employed in nano-liquid chromatography (nano-LC) enabled the chiral separation of seven pesticides on Sepapak-2 and of nine pesticides on Sepapak-4. Due to the fact that Sepapak-4 gave better results, this column was selected

Ambient temperature fabrication of a covalent organic framework from 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol and 1,4-phenylenediamine as a coating for use in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography of drugs and amino acids.

A covalent organic framework (COF) named TpPa-1 was designed and synthesized at ambient temperature by an ultrasound-assisted method from 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and 1,4-phenylenediamine (Pa-1). It was utilized as a stationary phase in open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC). The column was coated with TpPa-1 using a covalent bonding strategy. The coated capillary was characterized by morphology, crystallography, and mesoporous analysis to confirm the successful fabrication. The OT-CEC method was utilized for the analysis of tetracyclines, sulfonamides, cephalosporins
