Papillary fibroelastoma arising from the pulmonary valve associated with pulmonary embolization.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastomas are rare, usuallybenign tumors that can be detected at autopsy, during open-heart surgery, or with echocardiography. They usually arise from the cardiac valves and more commonly are found on the left side of the heart. Embolization of left-sided and tricuspid valve tumors has been well documented. This is the 1st reported case of pulmonary embolization of a papillary fibroelastoma arising from the pulmonary valve.

Papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve initially suspected as myxoma: a case report of resection via minimally invasive approach.

BACKGROUND: Papillary fibroelastomas typically arise from the cardiac valves, whereas cardiac myxomas rarely originate from the valves. Distinguishing these tumors intraoperatively can be challenging. CASE PRESENTATION: An 81-year-old man was referred for evaluation of an incidental cardiac mass. Transesophageal echocardiography revealed a mobile 10-mm mass attached to the P1 segment of the posterior mitral leaflet. Minimally invasive cardiac surgery via a right mini-thoracotomy allowed satisfactory exposure of the mitral valve. Intraoperative findings and frozen section analysis suggested a

[Papillary fibroelastoma of mitral leaflet revealed by a cerebrovascular accident. Case report].

Papillary fibroelastoma is a benign primitive cardiac tumour, which can be associated with serious embolic complications. We report on a 37-year-old woman admitted for a cerebrovascular accident. Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography revealed a small and pedunculated mass attached to the anterior mitral leaflet. Because of the severity of its symptoms and its high embolic potential, the tumour was surgically excised and histologically diagnosed as a papillary fibroelastoma. The postoperative period was uneventful and the patient was discharged at the third day. Papillary fibroelas

Papillary fibroelastoma of the right ventricular free wall.

Papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign cardiac tumor that usually arises from the valvular endocardium and its development in the cardiac chambers is extremely rare. A 52-year-old woman complained of palpitations and echocardiography revealed a cardiac tumor. Resection was performed via the right ventricle and main pulmonary artery under cardiopulmonary bypass. Histological examination of the resected tumor showed that it was a papillary fibroelastoma. The patient's postoperative course was unremarkable and no complications have been detected on followup.

Papillary fibroelastoma originating from the atrial septum touching the mitral valve leading to infective endocarditis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign tumor, which is often mistaken for a vegetation. Predominantly asymptomatic, it can cause life-threatening complications. Although rare, mobile papillary fibroelastoma movement between affected valves may hamper valve closure and damage the valve, leading to valvular regurgitation. Endothelial damage increases the risk of developing infective endocarditis. We report a rare case of a highly mobile papillary fibroelastoma originating from the atrial septum touching the mitral valve, leading to mitral regurgitation and, eventually, infe

Tricuspid Papillary Fibroelastoma at Multimodal Imaging.

Papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign cardiac tumor, second after cardiac myxoma as more frequent cardiac valvular tumor. The therapy is usually based on surgery according to size, mobility, symptoms, and risks of surgery. We report the case of a 67-year old female with transient ischemic attack. Echocardiography showed the presence of a round mobile formation localized on the atrial side of septal leaflets of tricuspid valve, first identified as an endocarditis vegetation. Cardiac magnetic resonance (cMRI) confirmed the presence of the mass and showed an isointense signal in T1-turbo spin

[Papillary fibroelastoma in the right ventricular outflow tract: a case report].

A 60-year-old female was admitted to our hospital for further examination of heart murmur. Chest radiography revealed cardiomegaly and pulmonary congestion. Two-dimensional echocardiography showed a mobile and pedunculated mass, approximately 20 mm in diameter, attached to the right ventricular outflow tract, and perimembranous ventricular septal defect. Cardiac catheterization and blood sampling were performed, which showed a pulmonary to systemic flow ratio of 3.70. She underwent surgical excision of the tumor, ventricular septal defect patch suture and tricuspid annuloplasty. Histological e

Mitral Papillary Muscle Papillary Fibroelastoma in Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: A Surgically Treated Embolic Source.

BACKGROUND: Papillary fibroelastoma, an uncommon cardiac tumor, can cause systemic embolization and raise unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges when superimposed on a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. CASE SUMMARY: A 71-year-old woman with obstructive HCM, prior unilateral retinal artery occlusion (RAO), and progressive exertional dyspnea was referred for Mavacamten therapy. An incidental mitral chordal mass was found on baseline transthoracic echocardiography, suspicious for papillary fibroelastoma. Given the prior unilateral RAO and symptomatic LVOT obstruction, septal myectomy and mass e

Papillary fibroelastoma causing severe aortic stenosis.

UNLABELLED: Herein, we present a rare case of papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic valve, which caused severe aortic stenosis. The papillary fibroelastoma developed on the left ventricular side of the non-coronary cusp, immobilizing the cusp motion and obstructing the left ventricular outflow tract, resulting in severe aortic stenosis that brought on acute heart failure. The patient underwent an urgent surgical treatment, which resulted in a successful outcome. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of papillary fibroelastoma in which aortic stenosis was so severe as to cause co

A rare cause of sudden vision loss in a young male: papillary fibroelastoma of the aortic valve.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma (CPF) is a rare cardiac neoplasm predominantly affecting the cardiac valves. Although it is most commonly an incidental finding, it can result in life-threatening complications, such as coronary and cerebral embolism, acute valvular dysfunction, and sudden death. In this report, we describe a case of a patient with aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma, which presented with sudden vision loss due to branch retinal artery occlusion. To the best of our knowledge, this is the third case of CPF-related retinal artery embolism in English literature.

A Case of Fibroelastoma with Widespread Embolism to the Brain, Kidney, and Spleen.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma (CPF) is the second most common primary cardiac tumor, which is diagnosed incidentally or with embolic phenomena, mostly in the form of a transient ischemic attack (TIA) and stroke. We present a case of a 58-year-old female who presented with fatigue and low-grade fever and was found to have multiple systemic infarcts. Her blood cultures and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) were negative, ruling out infective endocarditis. However, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) revealed a mobile mass at the aortic valve. The mass was surgically removed, and the aort

Papillary fibroelastoma of a mitral valve chorda.

A 43-year-old woman presented with an ischemic stroke in the right middle cerebral artery territory. Cardiac echography disclosed a tumor of a primary chordae of the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve. After neurologic recovery, the patient was referred to surgery for excision of the tumor and plastic reconstruction using a chordal transfer technique. Histological examination of the tumor showed a typical papillary fibroelastoma. Papillary fibroelastoma is the third most frequent cardiac benign tumor. The high embolic potential of this tumor is in favor of an aggressive surgical attitude.

Ischemic Stroke as the First Manifestation of a Mitral Valve Papillary Fibroelastoma: A Case Report.

Cardiac papillary fibroelastomas are rare benign primary cardiac tumors that predominantly involve the endocardium. Despite their benign histological nature, they have a high embolic potential and may present as ischemic stroke, making their identification particularly relevant in the context of cryptogenic stroke. We report the case of a 52-year-old woman who presented to the emergency department with sudden-onset right-sided hemiplegia and dysarthria. Computed tomography angiography revealed occlusion of the M1 segment of the left middle cerebral artery, and she underwent intravenous thrombo

Asymptomatic papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve.

We report an asymptomatic case of a papillary fibroelastoma adherent to the mitral anterior leaflet. Transthoracic echocardiography of an 85-year-old man with chronic atrial fibrillation and no thromboembolic episodes, revealed a cardiac tumor on the mitral valve. Transesophageal echocardiography demonstrated typical findings for a papillary fibroelastoma. The tumor was successfully removed using a shave excision technique. Currently, these tumors are found incidentally in asymptomatic patients by advanced diagnostic modalities.

[Aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma; report of a case].

Papillary fibroelastoma is a rare cardiac tumor. We report a case of surgical treatment for aortic valve papillary fibroelastoma. The patient was a 64-year-old female. She admitted our hospital for the evaluation of cardiogenic cerebral infarction. The echocardiogram revealed a mobile rounded mass (10 x 6 mm) of the aortic valve and aortic regurgitation. On the basis of these echo findings, we performed operation. Under cardiopulmonary bypass, aortotomy was made and aortic valve was observed. A tumor was on the non-coronary-cusp of the aortic valve, which was successfully removed followed by a

Incidental finding of papillary fibroelastoma on the atrial septum.

Papillary fibroelastoma is rare but one of the most common benign primary cardiac tumors after myxoma. This lesion may be associated with embolization, angina and sudden death. The incidental finding of a small pedunculated papillary fibroelastoma arising from the atrial septum detected by transesophageal two-dimensional echocardiography (TEE) in a patient undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting is reported. The advantage of TEE in diagnosing intracardiac tumors is also described.

BACKGROUND: The papillary fibroelastomas are cardiac lesions, which typically occur on the cardiac valves, but rarely on the endocardium. The incidence of these benign primitive tumors varies from 0.002 to 0.33% and increases with advancing age. METHODS: We report two cases of stroke, one in a 31-year-old man and the other in a 48-year-old woman, both admitted to the same stroke center. RESULTS: The diagnostic studies were normal in these two patients, except for the echocardiography. The first showed an echogenic mass on the mitral valve on transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), confirmed by

Pulmonary Valve Fibroelastoma, Still a Very Rare Cardiac Tumor: Case Report and Literature Review.

Background and Clinical Significance: Primary cardiac tumors are among the rarest types of tumor, and until the mid-20th century, they were diagnosed only post-mortem or during other surgical interventions. With the rapid evolution of cardiovascular imaging and the widespread use of echocardiography, the incidence of cardiac fibroelastoma has increased, though it remains one of the rarest primary cardiac tumors. Papillary fibroelastoma is a benign primary cardiac tumor that develops from endocardial tissue, is usually solitary, and can have multiple locations, with the pulmonary valve being on

Could papillary fibroelastoma in the tricuspid valve cause thrombocytopenia?

Cardiac myxoma and papillary fibroelastoma are the most common benign primary cardiac tumors in adults. In this brief report, we described a male patient with a mass in the tricuspid valve (papillary fibroelastoma as a result of pathology), who presented with thrombocytopenia and underwent tricuspid valve replacement. The patient was followed and treated by the hematology clinic due to thrombocytopenia, but a definitive diagnosis could not be made. The patient was incidentally diagnosed while being investigated for urinary stones. Thrombocytopenia improved in the postoperative follow-up. The s
