Women's workplace transitions in saudi arabia following the driving reform: An ordered logit analysis.

BACKGROUND: The removal of the driving ban for women in Saudi Arabia in 2018 represented a landmark socio-economic reform under Vision 2030, with important implications for women's mobility and career trajectories. However, limited empirical evidence exists on the relationship between this reform and women's employment-related mobility, particularly workplace transitions, using applied modelling approaches and multi-level analytical frameworks. AIM: This study applies an ordered logit modelling approach to examine the association between women's driving rights and employment-related mobility,

Equality Promotes Wellness.

Women otolaryngologists face issues that interfere with their wellness on a regular basis. Over the course of my career-in positions of leadership in academic practice and at the Academy's Board of Governors and Women in Otolaryngology Section and as past president of the AAO-HNS/F-I have had experiences and observations that I feel can help move the needle forward on these very important conversations.

From the Individual to the Ecosystem: An Institutional Framework for the Career Sustainability of Early-Career Health Professions Faculty.

The career sustainability of early-career faculty in the health professions is often framed as a matter of individual resilience, a perspective that obscures institutional determinants of ill-being and attrition. We argue that retention and thriving depend on an institutional ecosystem that integrates structured mentoring, psychopedagogical support and formal recognition of faculty work. Drawing on recent evidence on burnout, resilience and career development in academic medicine, we propose the Health Professions Faculty Career Sustainability Institutional Ecosystem (EISCD-Health) and the Fac

Does love in the ivory tower fix the leaky pipeline? How academia's homogamous relationships shape careers.

The persistent "leaky pipeline", i.e., women remaining underrepresented in advanced academic roles, often links to the adverse impact of parenthood on women's careers compared to men's. This study delves into how the struggle to balance academic success and family life might be pushing female scientists out of academia, and how the less-studied concept of homogamy-here, the forming of heterosexual relationships between individuals with the same profession-influences academic careers. Drawing on data from the 2021 "Academic career, partnership, and family" survey by swissuniversities, this rese

The perceived intersection of parenting, family planning, and career decisions among practicing PAs.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the relationship between parenting status, profession choice, and career advancement among practicing physician associates (PAs). METHODS: An anonymous survey asking PAs about their perceptions of the relationship between family planning and their professional experiences was included as an optional module in the 2023 American Academy of PAs Salary Survey. RESULTS: Among the 626 PAs who completed the survey, 62.0% of respondents (388/626) indicated that family planning influenced their decision to become a PA. Statistically significant differences by gender emerged. Com

Strategies for success in academic surgery.

BACKGROUND: A growing concern among university surgeons is a perceived threat to the traditional academician role. Factors that have led to this concern include (1) changes in reimbursement and patient referral patterns, both of which have resulted in reduced income; (2) mounting external pressure from the departmental chairperson/dean to generate professional fees; (3) pervasive ambiguity in the criteria for promotion and tenure; (4) intensified competition for research dollars in recent years; and (5) a perception that fellow academicians view surgeons as operating room technicians incapable

Comparing health metrics of nurses across the career trajectory.

BACKGROUND: One contributing factor to the nurse staffing crisis may be the persistent challenges of maintaining wellbeing throughout the profession. PURPOSE: This analysis examines how well-being differs by different stages of the nurse career trajectory. METHODS: Data included HealthyNurse survey respondents from June 2024 to May 2025 (n = 5,006). Poisson and linear regressions estimated nine well-being outcomes by employment stage, categorized as student nurses, years of experience, and former nurse. Models controlled for age, gender, race, work environment, and specialty. Nurses working

Investigating the conditions in which women GPs thrive in general practice: a realist review.

BACKGROUND: Women GPs experience higher rates of burnout, anxiety, depression, and slower career progression than men GPs. Women GPs are sought out by patients for specific conditions, which may increase consultation length. This can be a source of job satisfaction for some. However, it can also contribute to additional exhaustion and affects career progression, meaning women GPs are at higher risk of leaving the profession. There is an urgent need to identify solutions to retain and support them. AIM: This review brings together a wide range of evidence to identify the conditions in which wo

Creating a Career Development Path for Young Supply Chain Professionals: Three Case Studies in Benin, Kenya, and South Africa.

Low and middle-income countries (LMICs) continue to have a limited supply of skilled supply chain (SC) management professionals in the public sector. In addition, the SC workforce lacks the competencies demanded by new technologies and markets. Young people may be an untapped resource for the procurement and SC management workforce. We present 3 use cases in which career development paths were created for young SC professionals in Benin, Kenya, and South Africa. In Benin, with advocacy from L'Association des Logisticiens Béninois, the professional body of logisticians, career development oppor

Race-Conscious Professionalism and African American Representation in Academic Medicine.

African Americans remain substantially less likely than other physicians to hold academic appointments. The roots of these disparities stem from different extrinsic and intrinsic forces that guide career development. Efforts to ameliorate African American underrepresentation in academic medicine have traditionally focused on modifying structural and extrinsic barriers through undergraduate and graduate outreach, diversity and inclusion initiatives at medical schools, and faculty development programs. Although essential, these initiatives fail to confront the unique intrinsic forces that shape

Personality and specialty interest in medical students.

BACKGROUND: Research on the relationship between personality and specialty interest is important because of its implications in student career counseling and in forecasting future specialty distribution. AIM: This study was designed to test the following hypotheses: 1. Students interested in 'surgical' specialties would obtain higher scores on a measure of 'impulsive sensation seeking' and lower scores on a measure of 'neuroticism-anxiety'. 2. Students interested in 'hospital-based' specialties would score lower on a measure of 'sociability' whereas those interested in 'primary care' would sc

Penalties for success: reactions to women who succeed at male gender-typed tasks.

A total of 242 subjects participated in 3 experimental studies investigating reactions to a woman's success in a male gender-typed job. Results strongly supported the authors' hypotheses, indicating that (a) when women are acknowledged to have been successful, they are less liked and more personally derogated than equivalently successful men (Studies 1 and 2); (b) these negative reactions occur only when the success is in an arena that is distinctly male in character (Study 2); and (c) being disliked can have career-affecting outcomes, both for overall evaluation and for recommendations concer

[Career paths and professional education in the former German Democratic Republic 1949-1989].

With the unification of Germany the career structure and the places where nurses were educated and trained were pushed aside, as legislation of the Federal Republic was adopted. Thus they have acquired historical interest. Nevertheless they represent a quasi governmental experiment, the outcome of which should be recognised as a historical experience and should be preserved scientifically, because of the impact on the development of nursing-education, professionalization of nursing and most of all on the preparation of nurse-teachers. The authors of this paper are former nurses and educators i

Career Plateau Among Surgical Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Network Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Career plateau is increasingly recognized as a threat to nursing workforce stability because it is associated with poorer work performance, lower organizational commitment, and higher turnover intention. Surgical nurses may be especially vulnerable given their highly structured and technically demanding work context. However, evidence remains limited on how career plateau is configured in this group and how relevant factors are interrelated. AIM: Based on Bandura's triadic reciprocal determinism, this study examined career plateau among surgical nurses and its relationships with s
