INTRODUCTION: Chest wall reconstruction in children after large resection of tumors may be performed with rigid or soft materials. Cementoplasty is commonly used with the "Sandwich" method i.e. gore-tex meshes surrounding both faces of the cement.
HYPOTHESIS: Is antibiotic loaded single-side gore-tex "Tartine" methyl-methacrylate cementoplasty an interesting alternative to the double-side "sandwich" method for chest wall reconstruction?
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Consecutive patients who were treated from 2011 to 2023 in our hospital were included.
RESULTS: Among the ten children treated with a

BackgroundThe spine is the most frequently affected part of the skeletal system to metastatic tumors. External radiotherapy is considered the first-line standard of care for these patients with spine metastases. Recurrent spinal metastases after radiotherapy cannot be treated with further radiotherapy within a short period of time, making treatment difficult. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of MWA combined with cementoplasty in the treatment of spinal metastases after radiotherapy under real-time temperature monitoring.MethodsIn this retrospective study, 82 patients with 115

BACKGROUNDSevere osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (SOVCF) is frequently complicated by endplatedisc complex (EDC) injury. While percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) can offer rapid analgesia and facilitate early activity, it does not restore vertebral height and may result in intervertebral leakage and untreated EDC injury.OBJECTIVEThis study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of percutaneous functional spinal unit cementoplasty (PFSUP) for SOVCF complicated by EDC injury and compare its clinical and imaging outcomes with PKP.METHODSThis was a retrospective case-control study. We report a case of a 40-year-old female with a solitary plasmacytoma of the right transverse apophysis of C1 who underwent combined transoral ablation using a curved steerable needle and cementoplasty under CBCT and infra-red augmented reality navigation system. An imaging work-up revealed an osteolytic lesion determining partial collapse of the right lateral mass of C1 and involving the vertebral foramen. After a biopsy, that revealed a solid tissue consistent with plasmacytoma, it was decided to proceed with radiation therapy. Subsequent PET-CT restaging scans showed residual tumors treated

OBJECTIVES: Cement leakages in soft tissues are a common occurrence during cementoplasty. They may cause chronic pain, and thus treatment failure. Spindle malposition during reinforced cementoplasty may cause vascular, nerve or cartilage injury. Our goal was to evaluate the rate of cement leakage/spindle extraction and describe the techniques used.
METHODS: This retrospective monocentre study included 104 patients who underwent reinforced cementoplasty and 3425 patients who underwent cementoplasty between 2012 and 2020. Operative reports and fluoroscopic images were reviewed to identify extra

BACKGROUND: Vertebral disease is a major cause of morbidity in 70% of patients diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM). Associated osteolytic lesions and vertebral fractures are well documented in causing debilitating pain, functional restrictions, spinal deformity, and cord compression. Currently, treatment modalities for refractory MM spinal pain include systemic therapy, radiotherapy, cementoplasty (vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty), and radio frequency ablation. Our objectives were to report on the efficacy of existing treatments for MM patients with refractory spinal pain, to determine if a standa

PURPOSE: This technical note describes the novel use of a curved, steerable needle to access symptomatic osseous lesions in the pelvis and sacrum for palliative percutaneous treatment that would otherwise be difficult to treat using conventional straight needles.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven patients with lytic bone lesions were treated. One patient had multiple myeloma; the remaining had metastatic disease: breast carcinoma (n = 2), colorectal carcinoma (n = 1), renal cell carcinoma (n = 1), squamous cell carcinoma (n = 1), and leiomyosarcoma (n = 1). Five of the seven patients had lesions i

Background/Objectives: Primary benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumours are generally treated with surgical excision. Metastatic musculoskeletal disease may require both systemic and local treatment. This review focuses on the use of radiofrequency ablation (RFA), cryoablation, cementoplasty, and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in primary musculoskeletal tumours and bone and soft-tissue metastases. Methods: We reviewed English-language studies addressing the indications, clinical outcomes, patient selection, and complications of these techniques in patients with primary musculoske

The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of cementoplasty in the treatment of sacral multiple myelomas. We retrospectively reviewed the records of eight patients (four women and four men; age range 47-68 years; mean age 57.8) who underwent cementoplasty for painful osteolytic localization of multiple myeloma between April 2007 and May 2009. The patients had difficulty walking because of increasing pain. Six patients had persistent pain despite other cementoplasties for vertebral and femoral localization, whereas two patients referred at the time of diagnosis had only sacral lesions

OBJECTIVE: While percutaneous osteoplasty is common for the treatment of vertebral fractures, low strength of fixation remains a major challenge for use in metastatic weight-bearing bones. With stent, wire, and cement augmentation, this study explores the feasibility of percutaneous reinforced osteoplasty for use in correcting long bone fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen explanted swine femora were randomly assigned into three groups. Group 1 (n = 5) was native (intact) bones without any intervention (control), group 2 (n = 5) received cementoplasty, and group 3 (n = 5) received stent

A 51-year-old man with a history of ankylosing spondylitis presented with gradually increasing right hip pain. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a large lytic lesion of the right iliac bone. Percutaneous bone biopsy was performed, followed by a diagnosis of an aggressive bone hemangioma. After a multidisciplinary meeting, sequential interventional treatment combining arterial embolization, percutaneous cryoablation, and cementoplasty was proposed and performed under imaging guidance, resulting in a complete resolution of symptoms. The patient presented a local rec
