Studies on Kochiae Fructus. V. Antipruritic effects of oleanolic acid glycosides and the structure-requirement.

We examined the antipruritic effects of various oleanolic acid glycosides from natural medicines such as Kochiae Fructus (the fruit of Kochia scoparia SCHRAD.) and Momordicae Radix (the roots of Momordica cochinchinensis SPRENG.) using a compound 48/80-induced pruritic model in mice. Oleanolic acid 3-O-monodesmosides showed an antipruritic effect, while oleanolic acid 3,28-O-bisdesmosides and their common sapogenol oleanolic acid lacked the activity. This evidence indicated that the 3-O-glycoside moiety and the 28-carboxyl group in oleanolic acid glycosides were essential for exhibiting the an

Evaluating environmental impact and remediation potential: Bioaccumulation and translocation of potentially toxic elements in three native halophyte species in the wetlands of the Bouregreg estuary in Morocco.

This study in the Bouregreg estuary examines the accumulation and seasonal variation of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in three native halophytes: Halimione portulacoides, Salicornia perennis, and Spartina maritima. PTEs concentrations of cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and vanadium (V), remained below known phytotoxic thresholds, showing high tolerance across all species. S. maritima showed the highest accumulation, likely due to habitat-related factors such as submersion duration and sediment conditions. Compared to a construction-period data, current findings show in

The current state of our knowledge of the domestication and evolution of the grain amaranths: a critical standpoint.

BACKGROUND: Amaranthaceae is a large family of angiosperms consisting of the former Amaranthaceae sensu stricto and the former Chenopodiaceae, distributed from the tropics to more temperate regions. Amaranths were independently domesticated in Asia and America. For seed production, three native American species, referred to as grain amaranths, resulted from human artificial selection and cultivation over thousands of years: Amaranthus caudatus, A. cruentus and A. hypochondriacus. SCOPE: This review attempts to provide a survey of the research in amaranths since Sauer (1918-2008). In addition,

Optimization on the extraction conditions of flavonoids from Suaeda glauca and the research of its hepatoprotection in mice.

Liver disease is a serious threat to health worldwide. Flavonoids from Suaeda glauca (SGF) is able to alleviate liver lipid peroxidation. However, it is unclear whether SGF could protect against liver glycogen accumulation, inflammation and fibrosis. In this study, the extraction conditions of SGF were optimized with response surface methodology. The qualitative analysis of components in SGF was carried out by a LC-MS/MS method. Moreover, SGF was administered orally to male mice given 10 % carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) for 4 weeks at doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg once daily for 4 weeks. The optimal e

Total and Methylmercury of Suaeda heteroptera Wetland Soil Response to a Salinity Gradient Under Wetting and Drying Conditions.

Mercury (Hg) methylation could occur in freshwater ecosystems with low or high salinity. However, few studies are available about the effects of salinity change on mercury(Hg) release and methylation. In-situ experiments using Suaeda heteroptera wetland soil column from the Liaohe estuary were performed to decipher how total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) contents change under fluctuant salinity and wet and dry soil conditions. Salinity gradients were set to 0.50% (S1), 1.00% (S2), 1.50% (S3) and 1.80% (S4), and pure deionized water was used as a blank control (CK). Wet and dry soil co

Tolerance of the eriophyid mite Aceria salsolae to UV-A light and implications for biological control of Russian thistle.

Aceria salsolae (Acari: Eriophyidae) is being evaluated as a candidate biological control agent of Russian thistle (Salsola tragus, Chenopodiaceae), a major invasive weed of rangelands and dryland crops in the western USA. Prior laboratory host range testing under artificial lighting indicated reproduction on non-native Bassia hyssopifolia and on a native plant, Suaeda calceoliformis. However, in field tests in the native range, mite populations released on these 'nontarget' plants remained low. We hypothesized that UV-A light, which can affect behavior of tetranychid mites, would affect popul

Extraction of cellulose from halophytic plants for the synthesis of a novel biocomposite.

Cellulose nanofibers, a sustainable and promising material with widespread applications, exhibit appreciable strength and excellent mechanical and physicochemical properties. The preparation of cellulosic nanofibers from food or agricultural residue is not sustainable. Therefore, this study was designed to use three halophytic plants (Cressa cretica, Phragmites karka, and Suaeda fruticosa) to extract cellulose for the subsequent conversion to cellulosic nanofibers composites. The other extracted biomass components including lignin, hemicellulose, and pectin were also utilized to obtain industr

Functional divergence of bacterial communities in root zones of Suaeda salsa in an aged petroleum-polluted area of the Yellow River Delta.

Petroleum hydrocarbon pollutants pose a significant threat to the ecological security of oilfields. In these contaminated habitats, Suaeda salsa is a dominant halophyte of the coastal wetlands and oilfields, which has shown potential in remediation of petroleum polluted saline soils. However, the role of plant-associated microbial communities in pollutant attenuation remains poorly understood, particularly regarding niche-specific responses within the root zone. In this study, bacterial community structures associated with the halophyte Suaeda salsa in China's Yellow River Delta were investiga
