Choroidal Macrovessel Diagnosed on Multimodal Imaging, including Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

Choroidal macrovessel (CM) is a rare anomalous vascular lesion in the choroid. In this case report, we describe a 72-year-old Caucasian man diagnosed with an incidental heavily branching CM in the macula of his right eye based on multimodal imaging, including enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (OCT), swept-source OCT angiography, and indocyanine green angiography. Multimodal imaging is valuable in demonstrating the distinctive appearance of this entity and differentiating it from more vision-threatening differential diagnoses, such as ophthalmomyiasis interna, choroidal neopla

Growth fraction in human brain tumors defined by the monoclonal antibody Ki-67.

The monoclonal antibody Ki-67, which reacts with cells in the active part of the cell cycle, was used to evaluate immunocytochemically the growth fraction in 22 primary brain neoplasms. The percentage of labelled cells reflected the histological grade of malignancy of each neoplasms. High percentage of Ki-67-positive cells were observed in one choroid plexus carcinoma (60%), one primary melanoma of meninges (40%), three medulloblastomas (40%-50%), one anaplastic astrocytoma and six glioblastomas (10%-40%). One ependymoma had 7% positive cells. Rare positive cells (1%) were present in one piloc

Case Report: Detailed Clinical Course and Management Plan for Status Epilepticus Pediatric Patient with Resected Choroid Plexus Papilloma: A Case Report and a Single Center Experience.

Choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) is a benign but rare central nervous system (CNS) neoplasm of the choroid plexus. The onset of symptoms is usually in the first decade and may occur at birth (i.e., congenital). It accounts for 0.4-0.6% of all brain tumors. Usually seen in patients who are young children. The object of this clinical case to highlight early surgical intervention, intensive and multidisciplinary care, and pharmaceutical prescriptions can enhance the patient's condition and quality of life. We herein report a rare presentation of CPP in a 6-year-old Sudanese female child with seizur

Rapid malignant progression of an intraparenchymal choroid plexus papillomas.

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare neoplasms accounting for only 0.3-0.6% of all brain tumors in adults and 2-5% in children. The World Health Organization (WHO) classification describes three histological grades: grade I is choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), grade II is atypical papilloma, and grade III is the malignant form of carcinoma. In adults, CPTs rarely have a supratentorial localization. CASE DESCRIPTION: Here we report a very rare case of an intraparenchymal parietal CPP with a rapid histological transition from grade I to grade III WHO in a 67-year-old man, in <7 month

Choroid plexus carcinoma in a goat.

A 15-year-old female goat suddenly developed right-sided head tilting with anorexia and depression. Post-mortem examination of the brain revealed a large, unilateral, well-demarcated, intraventricular neoplasm which was diagnosed as a choroid plexus carcinoma. The neoplasm, which occupied about 75% of the left lateral ventricle, led to unilateral obstructive hydrocephalus and invaded the white and grey matter of the left piriform lobe, with focal subarachnoid spread and meningeal implantation. Histopathological examination revealed loss of branching papillary architecture, invasive growth, a h

Uveal melanoma in association with multiple malignancies. A case report and review.

A 66-year-old man had a pigmented choroidal lesion in his right eye. Over a subsequent period of 8 1/2 years, the lesion showed slight growth. At autopsy, the diagnosis was spindle B melanoma of the choroid without evidence of systemic metastasis. A very unusual feature of this case was the presence in this patient of seven primary malignant tumors and five benign neoplasms. In addition to the choroidal melanoma, these included three distinct pulmonary carcinomas, leiomyosarcoma of the stomach, adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon, and basal cell carcinoma. The literature on multiple malignanci

Diagnostic Challenges in Choroid Plexus Tumours.

Choroid plexus tumours are rare epithelial neoplasms arising from the choroid plexus, accounting for approximately 0.2% of all central nervous system tumours but up to 20% of brain tumours diagnosed during the first year of life. CPTs exhibit marked clinical and biological heterogeneity and are classified into three entities according to the World Health Organization (WHO): choroid plexus papilloma (CPP, WHO grade 1), atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP, WHO grade 2) and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC, WHO grade 3). Although CPP is a benign tumour with excellent prognosis following complete

Carbon ion radiotherapy for synchronous choroidal melanoma and lung cancer: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Despite being the most common intraocular malignancy among adults, choroidal melanoma is a rare cancer type, even more so when accompanied by lung cancer. We report a patient with synchronous choroid melanoma and lung cancer treated with carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT). CASE SUMMARY: A 41-year-old woman was transferred to our center with a diagnosis of choroidal melanoma in her right eye. During the examination, we found a right lung tumor that was histologically diagnosed as lung cancer. The patient was treated with CIRT for both malignant neoplasms. The CIRT dose was 70 photon eq

Report from the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation - infantile glioma and other non-embryonal central nervous system tumors: evolving molecular advances and current treatment landscape.

BACKGROUND: Brain tumors in infants represent a rare but clinically challenging subset of pediatric central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms. These tumors are biologically and clinically distinct from those in older children and adults, with a predilection for supratentorial locations, frequent presentation with macrocephaly and signs of increased intracranial pressure, and unique molecular profiles. There have been many advances in molecular profiling, now influencing treatment choice and outcomes. Non-embryonal tumor types-including glial tumors, choroid plexus tumors, craniopharyngioma, epend

[Three pediatric cases with choroid plexus papilloma in the fourth ventricle].

Choroid plexus papillomas are rare; they comprise less than 1% of all intracranial tumors. In children, most of these neoplasms arise in the lateral ventricle while in adults they are primarily located in the fourth ventricle. We report 3 children with choroid plexus papilloma in the fourth ventricle; they were one 5-month-old girl and 2 boys aged 8-and 15-years. The baby girl presented with macrocephaly and signs of raised intracranial pressure, the 2 boys exhibited cerebellar signs. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) the tumors were well-enhanced with a cauliflower-like contour and hydrocep

[Imaging of lateral ventricle tumors].

Lateral ventricular neoplasms are rare, and account for 50% of all intraventricular tumors in adults and 25% in children. Although these neoplasms are easily detected with computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), both techniques are relatively unspecific in identifying the type of tumor. However, few imaging patterns are specific for a particular pathological process and useful conclusions can be made from the morphological appearance of the lesion, its location and enhancement pattern. The aim of this article was to review and illustrate the CT and MRI findings of a wide

Uveal lymphoid hyperplasia: treatment with combination antibiotics and steroids.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Uveal lymphoid hyperplasia (formerly benign reactive hyperplasia of the choroid) spans histopatholological characteristics ranging from reactive hyperplasia to low-grade lymphoid neoplasm. There is strong evidence that other low-grade lymphoid neoplasms, particularly of gastric derivations, respond to oral antibiotics. Here, we explore that response of uveal lymphoid hyperplasia to treatment with only oral antibiotics and steroids. METHODS: Four eyes of three patients with clinically diagnosed uveal lymphoid hyperplasia were treated with a course of oral antibiotics and stero

Asymptomatic choroid plexus carcinoma in an infant: Report of one case.

INTRODUCTION: Choroid Plexus Carcinomas (CPC) are rare malignant brain neoplasms of choroid plexus epithelium, with a tendency to occur in infants and children, especially those who are under two years of age. The Main symptoms of CPC include nausea, vomiting, headache, irritability, blurred vision, and seizures. Few studies discuss the therapeutic methods to treat this tumor. However, most of these studies confirmed the poor prognosis of it. CASE PRESENTATION: A two-year-old girl presented with a headache due to head trauma, normal consciousness, GCS 15/15, and without intracranial hypertens

Presumed eccrine carcinoma metastatic to the choroid.

The purpose of this article is to describe a patient with presumed choroidal metastasis from an eccrine adenocarcinoma of the scalp. A 45-year-old Caucasian woman presented with decreased visual acuity. Ophthalmologic examination was unremarkable. Her past medical history was significant for eccrine carcinoma of the scalp. The patient developed bilateral cervical lymph node metastases, and received chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She had recurrence of the scalp lesion and developed bone metastasis. The patient was again referred to an ophthalmologist owing to reduced visual acuity. Multiple cho

Developing a nomogram based on SEER database for predicting prognosis in choroid plexus tumors.

Choroid plexus tumors (CPT) are rare and highly vascularized neoplasms that have three histologically confirmed diagnoses, including choroid plexus papilloma, atypical choroid plexus papilloma, and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). This study aimed to determine the epidemiology and survival of patients with CPTs and develop a nomogram to quantify the prognosis of the patients with CPT. Data of 808 patients who were diagnosed as CPT between 2000 and 2020 was obtained from the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results database. Descriptive analysis was used to assess the distribution and tumor-r

Magnetic resonance imaging of a third ventricular chordoid glioma.

Chordoid gliomas are uncommon neoplasms located within the anterior portion of the third ventricle. In this article, we aimed to describe the clinical presentation, magnetic resonance imaging characteristics, histological findings, and surgical treatment applied to a case of chordoid glioma. Chordoid gliomas are typically observed as solid masses within the anterior segment of the third ventricle, characterized by homogenous and vivid enhancement. Despite being classified as a low-grade neoplasm, the outcome of choroid glioma is often uncertain.
