Foramen of Monro choroid plexus papilloma: An extremely rare location managed by endoscopic resection.

Choroid plexus papillomas are rare brain neoplasms, primarily observed in children, and typically manifest with symptoms indicative of heightened intracranial pressure and cerebral irritation. In addition, the tumor's localization varies with the patient's age, and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches predominantly rely on imaging findings and surgical interventions, with histopathological examination being essential for confirmation. This study outlines a unique instance of choroid plexus papilloma in a 30-year-old female, who presented with severe headache and vomiting, subsequently reveali

[Ultrastructural study of papillomas of the choroid plexus].

The choroid plexus papillomas are rare neoplasms. They constitute about 0.5 per 100 of all intracranial tumors. From a histological point of view they are generally benign tumors. However they give a high mortality rate due to their location near vital structures, the rapid production of intracranial hypertension, and the rich vascularity making risky the surgical treatment.

Case report: congenital intraventricular meningioma demonstrated with fetal MRI.

Congenital intracranial meningiomas are rare lesions. We present a case of congenital intraventricular cystic meningioma, initially characterized with fetal MRI and confirmed postnatally with histopathology. To our knowledge, this is the first in vivo description of a congenital meningioma with fetal MRI. The fetal MRI was able to characterize the lesion as an atypical intraventricular mass which was separate from the choroid plexus, differentiating the mass from a choroid plexus neoplasm. An intraventricular location of the meningioma is more commonly described in pediatric than in adult pati

Progeny in an Inhospitable Milieu-Solitary Intraventricular Metastasis From a Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Mimicking Central Neurocytoma: Case Report and Review of Diagnostic Pitfalls and Management Strategies.

BACKGROUND: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one of the most invasive subtypes of breast cancer, with high rates of visceral metastases and recurrence. Choroid plexus metastasis from breast cancer is infrequent despite a high incidence of brain parenchymal metastasis. METHODS: We report a case of solitary metastasis to the choroid plexus from a TNBC that masqueraded as central neurocytoma, and we review the PubMed database for similar cases focusing on their diagnostic challenges and management strategies. RESULTS: A 28-year-old woman with a history of TNBC presented with recurrent se

An overview of the diagnosis and management of Choroid Plexus tumors.

Choroid Plexus Tumors (CPT) are rare (2-4% of all pediatric CNS tumors), predominantly early childhood brain neoplasms. Due to their rarity and the lack of prospective clinical trials, evidence-based treatment guidelines remain limited. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the current knowledge.\n\nCPTs span a spectrum from mature Choroid Plexus Papillomas (CPP) to malignant Choroid Plexus Carcinomas (CPC), with Atypical Choroid Plexus Papillomas (aCPP) in between. A significant proportion of CPCs are driven by either somatic or germline TP53 mutations (Li-Fraumeni syndrome); howeve

Choroid Plexus Carcinoma in Adults: Literature Review and First Report of a Location into the Third Ventricle.

Choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC) is a rare intraventricular neoplasm originating from choroid plexus. CPC is the most aggressive choroid plexus tumor. Almost all the CPCs are detected in children, and the preferred location is the lateral ventricle. We reviewed the literature to evaluate the state of the art concerning the management of CPC in adults and report the first case described of the extremely rare localization into the third ventricle. A 38-year-old woman presented a medical history of Parinaud syndrome and occasional facial weakness. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass le

Prognostic Factors and Nomogram for Choroid Plexus Tumors: A Population-Based Retrospective Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Database Analysis.

Background: Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare neoplasms found in the central nervous system, comprising 1% of all brain tumors. These tumors include choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP), and choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). Although gross total resection for choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) is associated with long-term survival, there is a scarcity of prospective data concerning the role and sequence of neoadjuvant therapy in treating aCPP and CPC. Methods: From the years 2000 to 2019, 679 patients with CPT were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiol

Rosettes and pseudorosettes in veterinary neuropathology.

Rosettes and pseudorosettes are morphologic cell arrangements found in many neuroepithelial neoplasms in human medicine, including embryonal nervous system tumors (neuroblastoma, medulloblastoma, pineoblastoma, and retinoblastoma), non-embryonal nervous system tumors (ependymoma, astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, and choroid plexus tumors), and other extraneural neuroepithelial neoplasms. Although these structures are also described in neuroepithelial neoplasms of domestic animals, their frequency is still poorly characterized or inconsistently documented in veterinary medicine. Furthermore, ros

DNA pattern in choroid plexus papillomas.

Report on Feulgen-cytophotometric DNA studies of 8 choroid plexus papillomas. 7 tumours reveal distinct diploid stemlines in their karyogram. One tumour with oncocytic transformation exhibits a stemline in the triploid stage. These findings reflect the DNA pattern of a benign euploid neoplasm of the there investigated tumours.

Metastasis of the choroid plexuses: A systematic review of the literature and case illustration.

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus (CP) metastases are an extremely rare condition accounting for less than 1% of brain metastases. Due to its scarcity, little is known about this pathology and its management. Herein, we propose a review of the current literature to help its diagnosis and management. METHODS: Through a literature review based on PubMed/MEDLINE database, we reviewed 94 cases of intraventricular metastasis of solid cancer in 28 full-text articles in English from 1980 to 2010. We have reported epidemiological, clinical, radiological, histological data, as well as management strategies a

Metastatic choroid plexus papilloma presenting as a sellar mass: A case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare neoplasms arising from choroid plexus epithelium representing <1% of all intracranial tumors. Symptoms vary based on location and regional mass effect; however, hydrocephalus is common due to cerebrospinal fluid flow obstruction and/or overproduction. Distant site metastasis or de novo formation in extraventricular sites is rare. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 57-year-old female with a history of a 4th ventricular CPP status post resection in 2004 and 2018 with subsequent gamma knife therapy in 2019 presented with increased thirst and urination. Cerebellopontine Angle Primary Choroid Plexus Carcinoma Present in an Adult: Case Report and Literature Review.

Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare intraventricular neoplasms that primarily occur in children and are rare in adults. Of the CPT subtypes, choroid plexus carcinomas (CPC) are highly aggressive and malignant and of World Health Organization (WHO) Grade III. Dissemination through the cerebrospinal fluid space is the inevitable natural course of the disease. In this case report, we present a 33-year-old female with a past medical history notable for schizophrenia and bipolar disease who suffered from left-sided acute vision loss and hearing loss. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated

Computed tomography of choroid plexus lesions.

Computed tomographic (CT) and clinical findings in 14 patients with 17 lesions of the choroid plexus are presented. Primary neoplasms are the most common lesions in this series and include papillomas, meningiomas, carcinoma, astrocytoma, and teratocarcinoma. There are five vascular lesions, consisting of cavernous angiomas, hemangiomas, and an arteriovenous malformation. One patient had bilateral xanthogranulomas. There was association between cavernous angiomas and Sturge-Weber, and between meningiomas and neurofibromatosis. Useful distinguishing clinical and CT features between the different

Paediatric atypical choroid plexus papilloma: is adjuvant therapy necessary?

INTRODUCTION: Choroid Plexus Tumours (CPTs) account for 1-4% of all brain tumours in children. Atypical choroid plexus papillomas (aCPPs) are a subset of these tumours, defined over a decade ago, yet no consensus exists on the optimal approach to their management. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis of all patients treated for CPTs at the Hospital for Sick Children between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2018, and focused on patients with aCPP. Data extracted from the patient records for analysis included: demographic and clinical features, radiological imaging, surgical and adju

Nocardia abscess of the choroid plexus: clinical and pathological case report.

OBJECTIVE: Cerebral Nocardia abscesses are rare, accounting for approximately 1 to 2% of all cerebral abscesses. Prompt aggressive surgical treatment involving craniotomy and excision of these lesions has been advocated by many authors, because these lesions have significantly higher morbidity and mortality rates than do most other cerebral abscesses. We report an atypical presentation of cerebral nocardiosis localized to the choroid plexus of the lateral ventricle. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 56-year-old man presented with a 3-week history of fever, cough, and progressive headache and an ensuin

[Choroid plexus papilloma of the third ventricle. A case report].

Choroid plexus papilloma is an uncommon tumour of the central nervous system, accounting for less than 1% of all intracranial neoplasm. The usual locations are the lateral ventricle in infants and children and the fourth ventricle in adults. The third ventricle is a rare location, with few cases reported in the literature. We describe the case of a 3-month-old boy who was admitted to our centre with signs of raised intracranial pressure. Neuroimaging studies showed a third ventricular mass with associated hydrocephalus. The patient underwent complete tumour removal through a transfrontal appro
