Mitigating Climate-Related Health Risks in Lebanon: Implementation of National Standards for Climate-Ready Hospitals.

BACKGROUND: Climate change increasingly disrupts healthcare systems worldwide by simultaneously increasing service demand and undermining infrastructure reliability. Hospitals face escalating risks from extreme weather, energy insecurity, and water scarcity, while contributing nearly 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. These challenges are particularly acute in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, where fragile health systems and resource constraints heighten vulnerability. Lebanon's health sector exemplifies this intersection of climate risk and systemic fragility. This study ai

Messages from co-partisan elected officials can increase climate mitigation intentions without changing climate beliefs.

Increasing belief in climate change is often considered a prerequisite to motivating climate action. However, partisan polarization has crystallized climate beliefs, and the narrowing window for climate mitigation demands urgent behavior change. This study investigates whether messages from co-partisan elected officials can directly boost intentions to adopt climate-friendly behaviors without changing underlying beliefs about climate change. In two preregistered survey experiments-one on solar panels (n = 9298) and one on electric vehicles (n = 9903)-I find that co-partisan elite messages can

Assessing the climate impact of dairy farming: Incorporation of climate modelling and food-feed competition.

Dairy production is a major source of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially non‑carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Climate impact assessments of dairy farming need to account for differences between short- and long-lived GHGs, and for the net contribution of dairy production to human food supply. Based on survey data from 48 confined dairy farms in Henan, China, we found that in the production of one kg of human-edible protein (HEP) in milk and meat, an average of 18.1 kg CO2, 1.16 kg methane (CH4) and 0.03 kg nitrous oxide (N2O) were emitted. Results from a reduced-complexity climate

Choice of Downscaled Climate Product Matters: Projections of Valley Fever Seasonality in a Warming Climate.

Downscaled climate projections provide valuable information needed to better understand the impacts of climate change on health outcomes and to inform adaptation and mitigation strategies at local to regional scales. Because downscaled climate products vary in their representations of fine-scale spatiotemporal patterns, due to of multiple interacting factors, epidemiologic analyses need to consider how differences across downscaling approaches impact projections of health impacts into the future. We evaluate the projected seasonality of coccidioidomycosis in response to projected temperature a

Climate sensitivity and relative humidity changes in global storm-resolving model simulations of climate change.

The climate simulation frontier of a global storm-resolving model (GSRM; or k-scale model because of its kilometer-scale horizontal resolution) is deployed for climate change simulations. The climate sensitivity, effective radiative forcing, and relative humidity changes are assessed in multiyear atmospheric GSRM simulations with perturbed sea-surface temperatures and/or carbon dioxide concentrations. Our comparisons to conventional climate model results can build confidence in the existing climate models or highlight important areas for additional research. This GSRM's climate sensitivity is

[Environmental pollution, climate variability and climate change: a review of health impacts on the Peruvian population].

This article is a review of the pollution of water, air and the effect of climate change on the health of the Peruvian population. A major air pollutant is particulate matter less than 2.5 μ (PM 2.5). In Lima, 2,300 premature deaths annually are attributable to this pollutant. Another problem is household air pollution by using stoves burning biomass fuels, where excessive indoor exposure to PM 2.5 inside the household is responsible for approximately 3,000 annual premature deaths among adults, with another unknown number of deaths among children due to respiratory infections. Water pollution

Visual digital intermediaries and global climate communication: Is climate change still a distant problem on YouTube?

This article addresses the role of digital intermediaries in visual climate communication, and specifically their contribution to the persistence of a 'green ghetto' of traditional communicators and repertoires online. We argue for a comparative sensibility: global platforms convey global issues to global audiences, yet the same platform may distribute conditions of visibility for compelling communication unevenly around the world. The study analyses how a major global visual platform, YouTube (Search), articulates climate change in 232 countries in their official languages. It combines API re

Prioritizing climate-sensitive zoonotic diseases in Bangladesh: integrating climate hazards, pathogen transmissibility and potential health outcomes.

INTRODUCTION: Zoonotic diseases, originating in animals and transmissible to humans, pose significant public health challenges globally. Many of these diseases are strongly influenced by climatic variations and extreme weather events, creating a compounded hazard. Bangladesh, a South Asian country highly vulnerable to climate hazards, is particularly at risk given the diversity of disease vectors and the vulnerability of livestock and human populations. Traditional decision-making frameworks often fail to address the complexities and uncertainties of these interactions, resulting in suboptimal

Rapid spread and emergence of heartworm resulting from climate and climate-driven ecological changes in Hungary.

In Europe, Dirofilaria immitis persists mainly in the southern countries with a Mediterranean climate. Because spreading of heartworms from these countries towards the northern ones could be observed in the past decades, necropsy records of 4076 Hungarian dogs were reviewed for heartworm infections. The first autochthonous canine D. immitis case was detected on the Great Hungarian Plain in 2007. Until 2011, the number of heartworm infection cases was low, and these cases were restricted to a small part of the Great Hungarian Plain. Since 2012, the number of cases has increased considerably, an

Climate change, environmental exposures, and breast cancer: advancing climate-resilient oncology through sustainable development goal 13.

Climate change is increasingly recognized as a major determinant of human health, yet its implications for breast cancer prevention, progression, and healthcare delivery remain insufficiently integrated into global cancer control strategies. Breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed malignancy among women worldwide, is influenced by a complex interplay of genetic, hormonal, environmental, and socioeconomic factors, many of which are being reshaped by climate change. This narrative review examines the intersections between climate change, environmental exposures, and breast cancer within the f

Climate Stewardship in the Clinical Setting.

Pediatric clinicians have the potential to exert a large influence on health care sustainability for children and families as part of broader system transformation to promote sustainable practices. As a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, health care systems and providers have a responsibility to reduce emissions that negatively affect children's health. All pediatric clinicians should understand ways that we can mitigate health care impacts on our environment and should actively contribute to solutions in everyday practice through conversations with patients, trainees,

The principles of natural climate solutions.

Natural climate solutions can mitigate climate change in the near-term, during a climate-critical window. Yet, persistent misunderstandings about what constitutes a natural climate solution generate unnecessary confusion and controversy, thereby delaying critical mitigation action. Based on a review of scientific literature and best practices, we distill five foundational principles of natural climate solutions (nature-based, sustainable, climate-additional, measurable, and equitable) and fifteen operational principles for practical implementation. By adhering to these principles, practitioner

The Role of Climate Change in Asthma.

Human activity and increased use of fossil fuels have led to climate change. These changes are adversely affecting human health, including increasing the risk of developing asthma. Global temperatures are predicted to increase in the future. In 2019, asthma affected an estimated 262 million people and caused 455,000 deaths. These rates are expected to increase. Climate change by intensifying climate events such as drought, flooding, wildfires, sand storms, and thunderstorms has led to increases in air pollution, pollen season length, pollen and mold concentration, and allergenicity of pollen.

Climate Change and the Opioid Epidemic.

Ongoing assessments by climate scientists, including a recent report from the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, punctuate the pronounced effect that climate change is poised to have in the near future on the health and well-being of humans-particularly those with low socioeconomic status-throughout the world. To this end, to date, very limited scholarly attention has been placed on the effects that climate change may have on people who use drugs (PWUDs), in particular those with opioid use disorder, and assessed their structural and social determinants of climate chang
