Pain, Quality of Life, and Functional Capacity With Topical Sevoflurane Application for Chronic Venous Ulcers: A Retrospective Clinical Study.

INTRODUCTION: Chronic venous ulcers (CVU) commonly have poorly controlled pain. REPORT: Thirty patients older than 65 years of age with painful CVU were reviewed. At the initial visit, cleaning without sevoflurane was performed. Cleaning visits with sevoflurane every 2 days for 1 month were scheduled. The results of subsequent treatment with sevoflurane at the first, second, seventh, and twelfth cleanings were analysed. Pain was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS), quality of life by the Charing Cross Venous Leg Ulcer Questionnaire, and functional capacity by the Barthel Index. DISCUS

Topical treatment of American cutaneous leishmaniasis with paramomycin and methylbenzethonium chloride: a clinical study under field conditions in Ecuador.

Fifty-two patients with American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) from the Pacific coast of Ecuador were treated topically with an ointment containing 15% paramomycin (PR) and 12% methylbenzethonium chloride (MBCL) in vaselinum album (white soft paraffin; white petrolatum). After 20 applications (over 10 or 20 d) all lesions showed complete epithelialization within the first 100 d. Five patients developed new lesions during the one year observation period; 2 of these were probably reinfections. Considering all 5 cases as treatment failures, the healing rates were: 72% after 50 d, 90% after 100 d,

Topical Magnesium Orotate Lipogel in Kidney Transplant Recipients with Persistent Hypomagnesemia: Formulation Development and Pilot Clinical Study.

Background: In solid-organ transplant recipients, hypomagnesemia is a frequent and persistent complication, predominantly related to long-term use of calcineurin inhibitors. Oral magnesium supplementation is often ineffective due to poor adherence, gastrointestinal adverse effects, and high treatment costs. Objectives: This pilot study aimed to (i) develop a topical magnesium formulation for use in renal transplant recipients with persistent hypomagnesemia; (ii) evaluate the influence of formulation excipients on magnesium release from pharmaceutical preparations; and (iii) preliminarily asses

Patient perspectives on topical minoxidil for hair loss: a survey-based study from the University of Michigan Alopecia Clinic.

Topical minoxidil is a widely used therapy for alopecia. Its availability over the counter in the United States makes it easily accessible. Various factors impact whether an individual decides to pursue treatment and/or continue long-term use. Our study aimed to investigate patient awareness, opinions, and hesitations regarding topical minoxidil use for hair loss treatment. The study also aimed to identify information sources influencing these viewpoints. A survey was administered to new patients seeking evaluation for alopecia aged 18 and above at the University of Michigan Alopecia Clinic. D

The use of moisturizers as an integral component of topical therapy for rosacea: clinical results based on the Assessment of Skin Characteristics Study.

Skin care regimens have been recommended in conjunction with topical medications for the treatment of rosacea. Specifically, a mild cleanser and a moisturizer can help relieve symptoms and maintain skin barrier integrity. The Assessment of Skin Characteristics Study, a multicenter open-label study (N=102), compared the use of a specified skin care regimen with or without the moisturizer component. Participants used a facial cleanser immediately before application of azelaic acid (AzA) gel 15% twice daily to both sides of the face and then applied the provided moisturizer to the right side of t

A Mechanistic Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Modeling Approach Informed by In Vitro and Clinical Studies for Topical Administration of Adapalene Gels.

Background/Objectives: Adapalene is a synthetic retinoid used as a treatment for acne vulgaris. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the dermal pharmacokinetics of adapalene utilizing experimental and in silico tools. Methods: We utilized three over the counter (OTC) adapalene gels to evaluate local dermal pharmacokinetics. A data-driven, robust, mechanistic dermal physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model was developed by integrating the physicochemical properties of adapalene, the formulation attributes of the gels, and the biophysical aspects of dermal absorption.
