Traumatic brain injury (TBI) frequently results in long-term cognitive deficits due to traumatic axonal injury and disruption of structural brain connectivity. Computerized cognitive remediation (CCR) has shown promise for improving cognitive outcomes in chronic TBI; however, diffusion imaging studies evaluating its effectiveness have often relied on tensor-based metrics that are limited in their ability to detect subtle treatment-related changes. This study used correlational tractography, a diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (dMRI) connectometry method sensitive to localized, fiber-specifi

BACKGROUND: Several studies using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) have indicated that cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) might improve cognitive function by changing brain activations in patients with schizophrenia. However, the results were not consistent in these changed brain areas in different studies. The present activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analysis was conducted to investigate whether cognitive function change was accompanied by the brain activation changes, and where the main areas most related to these changes were in

Objective: Difficulties in social interactions are a core characteristic of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. They are often linked to impairments in social cognition, including emotion recognition, social perception, theory of mind, and attributional style. The RC2S program (cognitive remediation of social cognition) aims to address these deficits through individualized interventions. This study is the first controlled randomized trial to compare RC2S with RECOS (Remédiation Cognitive pour la Schizophrénie ou un trouble associé), a neurocognitive remediation program, to evaluate their respect

BACKGROUND: Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) are marked by cognitive deficits, functional impairment, and notable treatment gap in India, with lifetime prevalence of 1.41%, current prevalence as 0.42%, and the gap of 72%, added by a severe workforce gap, that is, 0.75 psychiatrists per 100,000 and 0.29 clinical psychologists per 100,000. Scalable tools are required by the psychologists that can fill the substantial urban-rural gap.
AIM: To evaluate how effective, feasible, and clinically applicable AI-powered cognitive remediation is, emphasizing India/LMIC contexts.

OBJECTIVE: Neuropsychological dysfunction exists in anorexia nervosa (AN). Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT), mainly evaluated in adults with AN, targets these impairments.
METHODS: Adolescent inpatients (age = 11-17 years) with AN were randomized to 5 weeks of either 10 sessions of individually delivered CRT or non-specific cognitive-training (NSCT). Co-primary outcomes included cognitive domain 'flexibility' [composite score of Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WSCT) and Trail Making Test (TMT-4)] and 'central coherence' [composite score of Central Coherence Index (CCI) and Group Embedded Figu

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairments are prominent features of individuals diagnosed with major psychotic disorders (MPD), negatively affecting occupational and social functioning. Over the past few years, several cognitive remediation (CR) interventions have been developed, with different foundation principles, targets, and mechanisms of action. The vast majority consists of drill and practice approaches that are grounded in the principle of neuropsychology. More recently, neuroplasticity-based cognitive training (NBCT) has shown promise. While several CR approaches have shown moderate efficacy,

Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) is a low-intensity treatment adjunct for individuals with severe and complex anorexia nervosa (AN) with difficulties in globally oriented, flexible thinking. Previously trialled in adults, this study investigated whether individual and group CRT was a feasible, acceptable, and beneficial treatment for 125 adolescent inpatients with severe and complex AN. Seventy patients (mean age = 15.22, SD = 1.44) received 10 sessions of individual CRT, and 55 patients (mean age = 14.89, SD = 1.74) received 10 sessions of group CRT. In individual CRT, 1 patient (1.43%) dr

Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) has recently been developed for children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN). It focuses on decreasing rigid cognitions and behaviors, as well as increasing central coherence. Overall, CRT has been proven feasible for young individuals with AN, but little is known regarding the specifics of its feasibility, and the perception of change associated with the intervention. Consequently, the aim of the current study was to explore service users' perspective on CRT with a specific focus on treatment delivery, treatment content, and perceived change. Twenty

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) seems to be increasingly interesting in the treatment of anorexia nervosa for adult patients. We attempted to apply this support to a group of young inpatients, initially to assess its feasibility and acceptability, and then to improve its content for therapeutic application and future research.
METHODS: Ten 12- to 17-year-old inpatients with primary DSM-IV diagnosis of anorexia nervosa participated in a 10-week intervention program with a one-hour group session of CRT per week. All 10 patients were assessed before the intervention and those who

OBJECTIVE: There are limited data supporting specific treatments for adults with anorexia nervosa (AN). Randomized clinical trials (RCTs) for adults with AN are characterized by high attrition limiting the feasibility of conducting and interpreting existing studies. High dropout rates may be related to the inflexible and obsessional cognitive style of patients with AN. This study evaluated the feasibility of using cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) to reduce attrition in RCTs for AN.
METHOD: Forty-six participants (mean age of 22.7 years and mean duration of AN of 6.4 years) were randomized

BACKGROUND: Cognitive and psychological inflexibility are two mental processes that influence how a person interprets and responds to esophageal symptoms. Patients with greater mental inflexibility are at risk for poorer outcomes. Brain-gut behavioral therapies (BGBT) are effective adjunctive treatments in many digestive diseases, with potential to improve mental flexibility. We piloted a brief intervention targeting cognitive and psychological inflexibility in patients with esophageal disease. Secondary aims included improving symptoms, mood, and quality of life (QoL) and reducing hypervigila

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) is associated with cognitive and functional difficulties, persistent beyond mood episodes. Cognitive remediation (CR) is a psychological therapy targeting cognitive and functioning difficulties. Recent evidence suggests that CR may enhance long-term functioning but transfer mechanisms on functional outcomes have not been explored. We aim to investigate whether and how cognitive gains after CR transfer to functional improvement.
METHODS: We considered data from a randomized controlled trial comparing CR (n = 40) to treatment-as-usual (TAU; n = 40) in euthymic

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive remediation (CR) is increasingly being used to address the cognitive impairment that can occur in people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD). This study aimed to understand attitudes towards CR in this service user group from the perspective of the person with the diagnosis and clinicians involved in their care.
METHOD: Anonymous online surveys were made available to people with a diagnosis of BPD in a public mental health service and clinicians of the same service.
RESULTS: Thirty-three percent of service users with a diagnosis of BPD responded to the s

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study was to examine brain activity using a "1-back" paradigm as working memory task in drug-naïve subjects with first episode schizophrenia before and after cognitive remediation training.
METHODS: In this study 15 drug-naïve first episode subjects who met DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia were randomized to receive either atypical antipsychotics (AP, n = 8) or atypical antipsychotics in combination with cognitive remediation therapy (AP + CR, n = 7), 11 subjects had a follow-up fMRI examination after therapy (AP, n =

Poor cognitive-behavioral flexibility is considered a trait marker in anorexia nervosa (AN) that can be improved by cognitive remediation therapy (CRT). The present pilot study aimed at identifying changes in brain function potentially associated with CRT in AN. Data was obtained from a randomized, controlled trial. Twenty-four patients were assessed before and after 30 sessions of either CRT or a non-specific neurocognitive therapy. Voxel-wise analysis of whole brain functional magnetic resonance imaging was applied. Brain activation was measured during response inhibition and task switching.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) aims at improving neuropsychological weaknesses and associated thinking styles in patients with anorexia nervosa (AN). It has only recently been developed for adolescents with AN, and evidence of its applicability for this particular patient group is limited. This study aimed to test the feasibility of individually tailored and delivered CRT for young females with AN.
METHODS: A sample of 20 in- and outpatients (13-18 years) with AN participated in once- or twice weekly individual CRT sessions. The CRT materials used were available in a "CRT Res
